The fresh Alaskan pollock and pub fries!
    Meg R.

I ended up here by accident with my friend and I am super glad I did! The food was decent priced and our server was great! They had some specials for the day and we both ended up choosing the fresh Alaskan Pollock. It came with a nice salad beforehand, then the main entree came- 6 pieces of fried fish and great pub fries! It was super cheap too, only $10! I will be back when I come to Newaygo again! Also, the owner came out more than once to check on us, very nice!

While there were a ton of people downtown Grand Haven (it was a Saturday night in the summer), we found parking immediately across the street and didn't have a wait for service. The service was good and food came out efficiently. We ordered the fish (cod) and chips basket with the stinky fry upgrade as well as 2 pieces of Whitefish, and a side cucumber salad. It came out PIPING HOT. The cod was flakey and delicious. Perfectly crispy and perfectly cooked. "Stinky fries" are absolutely covered in garlic. I didn't mind them, but am not much of a fry eater. My partner enjoyed them with the hot sauce offered at the window. He also enjoyed the Whitefish. The coleslaw is creamy with a slight kick (similar to the "kick" of a radish). The cucumber salad was really good. It was dill, cucumber, onion, and then some form of liquid (possibly a brine). Personally, my initial thought was that it's a bit pricey for what you get, but it's downtown Grand Haven so to be expected. Similarly served food at a *fancy* restaurant would probably be less delicious and we would wind up paying more. They do give you an ample amount of fries, also.

I have been to the chef/owner's other restaurant in Mt. Pleasant before and really liked it, so I was excited to try this spot in my hometown. We started with the brussels sprouts appetizer, which was very tasty. They had some sauces that were interesting, as well as some thinly sliced apple (perhaps an homage to the orchard where the restaurant is located). It was a little sweet but good. For my entree, I had the walleye: crispy rice cereal and parmesan coated, cedar roasted and served with maple carrots, duck fat poached and fried potatoes, tarragon aioli, and almond romesco. The dish was good but just a bit sweeter than I prefer with the sweet carrots. I tried some of Nate's smoked pork mac, which was tasty but the tomato jam was way too sweet for me. Can you tell I like savory things? My parents both got the spring pasta which looked delicious. Our server was very sweet and patient and overall I did like the experience. I think I'd order a bit differently next time but this is a really nice addition to the area!

They split them up and gave us two plates with separate fries etc. The presentation was great. The food was delicious! I was working while we were there and needed to get on a few meetings so we ended up hanging out for about two hours. They were so good to us. Most definitely will be back!
