I was really excited to try the She Crab Soup but it was very disappointing! It ended up being super chunky and the pieces of corn over powered the soup. The ones I've had at other places it was made more like a bisque and this was more of a chowder. Aside from the not so tasty food I'd definitely be back to try something different because the wait staff was very nice and super accommodating to my needs. We visited Real Seafood Company for dinner to celebrate my husband's birthday, and overall, it was a lovely evening. The restaurant itself is beautiful--bright, modern, and perfect for a special occasion. Parking was easy with nearby public lots and some off-street options as well. We ordered a variety of items: shrimp, fish and chips, Caesar salad, the blackened Atlantic swordfish, and several kids' meals (buttered noodles, mac & cheese, and grilled chicken breast). The bread service was a standout--warm, fresh, and a great way to start the meal. The kids' entrées were a pleasant surprise: generous portions, multiple options, and all were well-received. Highly recommend for families! The blackened swordfish was delicious--well-seasoned, tender, and a definite highlight. Unfortunately, the Caesar salad was a bit watery, and unfortunately the fish and chips were flavorless, a bit too greasy causing the fish to become soggy quickly. I was looking forward to this dish based on previous reviews of it being crispy, flakey and flavorful dish so maybe it was just a hiccup. However the managers attention to detail and willingness to make it right did not go unnoticed! He was very kind! One thing we really appreciated: since it was a birthday dinner, the staff had a card waiting on our table and even brought out a complimentary dessert. Service throughout the night was attentive and friendly. Our server let us know that some dishes are limited in quantity, so it's smart to order early if something catches your eye. Ate here for dinner last night with my son and his girlfriend. Love this place. The ambience and design of the restaurant is really cool... kind of like an old Chicago vibe. Very clean, higher end seafood restaurant. Excellent food and service. Great cocktails... and a nice bar. Lots of great parking options nearby with at least three parking ramps within walking distance. I highly recommend this place. I have gone many times... so ashamed it took me this long to write a review. They have never disappointed me. Truly the only thing I would change (literally) is adding lobster to the menu (lobster is currently an ingredient in many of their dishes but it isn't offered as a stand alone dish. I think (but am not sure about this) that you can get lobster with steak as part of their surf and turf... if true then I am curious why they wouldn't offer lobster by itself. I am not going to order a steak I don't want, just to eat the lobster I do want). Wish they would consider adding lobster as an entree. Beyond that, nothing bad at all to say about this restaurant. We decided to come before a Broadway GR show. It was a Sunday and they didn't have any open reservations until 6, so we arrived at 4:06 with a hope the wait wouldnt be too long. There was a 45m wait, but open seats at the bar. We put our names in and decided to sit at at the bar to have a few drinks. After sitting down we decided to stay at the bar because the bartender (Lauren I) was really excellent at her job. The beverages were A+ and she was incredibly efficient and kind. The soup came out hot and delicious. Then, the entree. Although my partner was disappointed that they were out of the flounder, he chose the halibut. It was incredibly tender and the risotto was creamy and delicious. I chose the fish and chips. It was so good! I would highly recommend, but would definitely ask for the fries to be extra crispy. I wasn't a huge fan of the Coleslaw, but really the fish was the star of the show. The batter was wonderful and the fish super flaky. Overall they have decent seafood, but not outstanding. The menu had a good variety, and the portions were fair for the price. I ordered the Baby Kale and Farro Salad with Seared Tuna and it was a little too salty, I am unsure what in the salad was so salty but some bites were almost inedible. The tuna was really good though. It was cooked very well. I also tried some of the she crab soup and it was just okay. I think I was hoping it was a cream based soup like I have tasted at other restaurants in the past. This soup was purely a broth base. It did have a good amount of crab in it for the cup size. I will open by saying the service was great on all levels. However, everything I ordered was very okay. There wasn't one thing I would reorder. The winter sangria was too sweet for my taste, so that's on me. The lobster bisque lacked flavor, was lukewarm warm and thick. The green salad had clearly been plated many hours ago. We came here when there weren't other reservations available last minute on a Friday night. The vibe is very much an old school seafood restaurant. Tall chairs, white linens, formal service. The menus are on tablets and there are lots of options for drinks and eats. The food is classic but not particularly interesting. If you love a classic crab Mac and cheese, or a cedar salmon, you'll love it. If you are looking for something unique and surprising, you'll likely be disappointed. Fabulous!!! Our dinner was amazing and the service was impeccable. We started with the Wagyu beef tartare(daily special). Our waitress in the bar area was very personable and attentive, and didnt wince when we asked for another basket of their delicious warm dinner rolls. We loved her! For cocktails we had smoked old fashioneds (love the presentation) which were on the sweeter side, and the peach tequila sour (also sweet, we wished we could taste the jalepeno simple in it!). They were both decent. For main courses we got the crab cakes, sea bass, and swordfish. The crab cakes were amazing! Generous portion and full of lump crab. The sea bass tasted SO fresh, was cooked perfectly, and the light sauce it was in was delicious. They let us swap the side for mashed potatoes which were really great! The swordfish was a hearty portion and pretty good too. For dessert the caramel apple bread pudding was definitely large enough to share, tasted very much like french toast, but I'd skip dessert next time. It's hard not to compare them to Leos, which I think tops them just a bit. Overall a really nice experience and I expect to return! read more

The wife and I enjoyed dinner entrees of walleye Milanese ($33.99) and seafood alfredo ($30.99) from here. Both were delicious and generous. The seafood is good and fresh here, but prices are getting pretty elevated and that just seems to be the case these days with quality seafood restaurants. This location is a classy, roomy, airy, and comfortable downtown venue and we just found metered street parking nearby. Service was attentive. The only reason we came over to Grand Rapids from Holland for dinner was that we had a Real Seafood gift card (actually the card is from their Mainstream Ventures Restaurant Group) from a past visit to their Ann Arbor location. The restaurant is so new and modern. It really makes you want to come in. I love the look of the upstairs, which I haven't sat in yet. They do not always seat up their sadly. We were in town and wanting dinner. I know that Real Seafood, as well as their other establishments, work well with allergies so it's always a safe choice for me. I called beforehand to see what dishes would be available for me if I came in. Chris, the manager, was extremely helpful on the phone. He spoke with the chef, discussed my options and assured me I would have a great meal. Which I did!! I had the Seafood Paella, with adjustments for my allergies. My husband opted for the Fish and Chips. Both were very good. We have been back since our first experience. It was just as pleasant. The servers are always helpful and accommodating. My only criticism is that I wish they seasoned the Paella better. Since I can't have garlic often times restaurants forget to use salt and pepper. Creme Brulee was great. The wine list is just ok. For dinner there was a surf and turf special that included a large shrimp. 3 of us ordered but only 2 served as one came out with lobster & steak. Disappointing but still delicious. Steaks were pretty standard, nothing special but cooked to correct temps. The whole fried fish was cooked flaky and a hit. None of us cared for the soup or salad, dressing lacked flavor (tasted like oil not lemon). Overall while the meal was good I'm not sure we'll rush back. Fun having the menu on a tablet. I've heard nothing but great things about Real Seafood and finally had the opportunity to go with friends recently and we all enjoyed it so much! Made a reservation ahead of time for 6 and it was honored and we were seated immediately. Right away looking around the place felt really nice! All of the seating was really nice and felt a little more upscale than I was expecting. We had waters and tablet menus to look over everything. One thing I love about tablet menus is being able to see pictures of everything before making my decision on food. I'm a visual person so this was wonderful for me. Started off with some drinks and my usual favorite red wine is Pinot Noir and they offer 6 or 8 oz. I ordered the 8 oz and she poured it for me at the table and left the extra wine portion for me to pour in later, love that. A couple of my friends ordered an Old Fashioned and watching our server pour that was extremely satisfying as the tiny corked bottle had some smoke trapped inside. We had complimentary bread given to us that was fresh from the oven and it broke apart down the middle easily for me and the butter melted perfectly inside. Loved this bread! For an appetizer my friends got the shrimp cocktail which had huge succulent shrimp on a bed of ice and they were so satisfied with that. My boyfriend and I tried the Tuna Tartar which was a cube of fried sushi rice with a sriracha aoili and cubed tuna on top. This was an amazing bite of flavor.. with the crunchy rice, spicy ness from the aioli and the fresh tuna made my taste buds were so incredibly happy. For my entree, I ordered the Miso Glazed Chilean Seabass. I had a hard time deciding with how many amazing fresh fish items they had and delicious sounding entrees on their menu, it's clear I will need to return and try some more another time. I went with the sea bass though because it's my favorite fish I've ever had. Even with the first bite I was drooling and knew it was going to be good with how tenderly the meat fell apart with my fork. The flavor was beyond my expectations and I ate the whole thing. It came with bok choy and jasmine rice as sides which complimented the fish and miso glaze flavor very well. This dish is 10/10 for me! Absolutely recommend!! There are ginger soy and and wasabi sauces on the side of the plate which are great too. I'm not big on wasabi personally but it looked aesthetically pleasing on the plate and goes along well with the other flavors. My boyfriend loved his swordfish and it looked amazing with how they plated this with the fregola salad and asparagus. Everyone else seemed to enjoy what they had! I tried some of my friends lobster and it was rich and sweet! Definitely tasted so fresh and amazing! For dessert my friend loved her Chocolate Truffle Cake which they left a birthday message for her (which I think is so sweet). I ordered the Chocolate Brandy Mousse and it was so rich and such a good size portion that I was able to pass it around and let my friends have a bite. I love to end my meal on a sweet note and this dessert hit the spot for me. Walking into this restaurant there's a Mission Statement that reads: "To consistently exceed guest expectations by providing memorable experiences in creative and distinctive restaurants." Mission accomplished, I'd say! My expectations were knocked out of the park and I'm so happy Grand Rapids has such a delicious place to go for seafood. I was really hoping to give this place 4-5 stars but it just didn't meet expectations. Granted, I've been a lot of places so I may be a bit biased. Atmosphere: 9/10 - nice open space, plenty of seating inside and out. Service: 6/10. Our server was more than kind but the wait time to get our food felt super drawn out. We asked about how big the paella was as we were thinking of splitting it but didn't really get a straight answer on if it would be a good shareable dish. Food: 5/10 - we started with some of their "new" crunchy saucy shrimp, the fried oysters and bread. For meals my husband ordered paella and I ordered the crab cake sandwich with fries. We both commented how the food lacked seasoning. The sandwich bread appeared to be fried so it was a little much with the thick coated fries that came with. The paella looked pretty big but my husband said it just was not seasoned well so he requested some saffron aioli just to enjoy it. I've been excited to try out Real Seafood! I stopped in with a group of co-workers during happy hour. We didn't have a reservation, but we arrived early enough that it wasn't necessary. They were able to seat us right away, in the bar side for happy hour. The happy hour deals are great too! The beer selection is decent, and the cocktails sounded delicious. The food specials were also so good! My coworkers all had the fish tacos. I was disappointed that they were out of the tuna nachos, but I ordered the blackened swordfish bites instead, and I'm actually glad they were out of the nachos. I will try those another time, but I probably wouldn't have tried the swordfish otherwise. The mango-avocado salsa was absolutely delightful! The server brought bread as well, and the rolls had a bunch of really nice herbs and seeds. The ambience is really nice. I loved the high ceilings and the natural light. There are a lot of windows, so I would imagine even at night there would be a lot of light coming in from streetlights. The sun was a little intense when we first arrived, but I'd rather have the windows than not. My only real complaint is that if you're short (like me), sitting on the booth in the bar side is a little awkward. There is nothing high enough to rest your feet on, so they just kind of dangle. Next time I'll just sit in a chair instead and hope my feet reach the cross bar. I love that their happy hour actually goes until 6:00, so people have a chance to get there and have a drink after work.
