    She crab soup

I have to start off by saying A1 service. We placed an online order through the site for a half pound of catfish nuggets and onion rings, and the she crab soup. When my husband went to pick up the order, they realized that their ticketing system wasn't working since it was new, so they gave us an extra order of catfish nuggets on the house! These nuggets weren't nuggets. They were super large chunks, lightly battered, and super juicy! The crab soup was FULL of shredded crab, and the onion rings were nicely fried. We loved everything, and thank you to Fishmongers for going above and beyond with their customer service!

I saw a friend post about this spot so I hurried to check it out! Fishmongers Seafood Market has a ton of fresh and frozen seafood/shellfish for sale to prepare at home, and they also have a restaurant counter for takeout meals. I love a good fried fish basket, so I was really excited to check it out. The food menu is large and a bit overwhelming, but the person taking our order was very helpful, kind, and patient. I ordered the whitefish basket with fries, and Nate got the catfish po boy. They also have fish tacos, a soup bar, featured daily items, and catch of the day that you can have prepared how you like. The space doesn't have any tables for dining in, so be ready to take your food to go. We waited about 15 minutes for our order which was pretty quick. The portions were MASSIVE - I think I counted 8 fried filets in my basket and the po boy was huge. I am not sure if the portion sizes will continue to be large as they dial in their margins, but it was definitely a lot of food that we could've split. The whitefish was a bit fishier than I was expecting, but the breading was super crispy, light, and not at all greasy. The fries were hot and tasty, and I liked the Cajun seasoning that Nate got. I'm already planning my next visit to Fishmongers Seafood Market to try some of the seafood tacos, soup, and more fried fish! I will also be buying some scallops for my Christmas Eve dinner at home.

Came here to eat lunch after finding out that they have small tables to sit at! Plenty of people came in for take out orders. We tried their fried cod basket and two soups - everything was delicious!! The cod was very lightly battered and flavorful and tender. Plain fries were not too crispy or soggy. Good tartar sauce and aioli? Sauce on the side. Coleslaw just okay (slightly sweet, light on the mayo) but nothing special. Soups are piping hot- we tried the corn shrimp chowder and the lobster shrimp Mexican soup (has a kick!). We will be back to purchase seafood but also to eat again :)

The staff has a Great attitude felt welcomed, the food is really good it's just over priced for the amount of food or mayb I'm just to poor $25 for the basket idk Mayb they need to hook it up a bit more with the portion

I had been wanting to check this place out for awhile since I live closeby, so I stopped in on a weekday night about 45 mins before closing. It's a nice local seafood market on Plainfield Ave. Good selection of fish in the case, as well as a freezer of prepacked fish and shellfish. Also varieties of sauces, dips, sardines, etc. I've been wanting to switch to more local markets for seafood and meats, and I will definitely try to buy my fish and seafood from here in the future! I ordered the Faroe salmon dinner, sautéed, which came with veggies, and the fried oyster po boy. The po boy does not include any sides, but I was told it was a fairly large-sized sandwich, and it was filling on its own! I would be interested to try more of their fried seafood options and fresh seafood from the case or freezer. They also have 3 housemade soups that all sounded good too, which I want to try next time. There's a couple tables to dine in, but seems more like a takeout spot. Service was pretty efficient and I was not waiting for more than 20 minutes after ordering! I'd definitely recommend that others check out this local spot since it's a bit hidden behind Los Portales.

    Coconut shrimp- chef special!

Wow- hard to believe that fishmongers has not even been open a month now. They run like a shop that has been open for decades. The service is incredibly helpful and kind. They have a fresh case, frozen cases, hot soup bar, drinks, sauces and species. The options are truly endless- scallops, salmon, shrimp, alligator tail, trout, smelt, catfish, snapper, crab legs, etc! They have an expansive menu for dining as well. There is a small seating area. Mahi Mahi tacos with mango slaw - perfectly cooked fish and fresh salsa made for a perfect combination. It was hard to put this down. Cajun fries- well cooked and crispy. The Cajun seasoning is not spicy so easy for everyone to enjoy. Coconut shrimp- WOW. A must. It was a chefs special so not sure if it will stay on the menu but I feel it should. The coconut breading was very crisp but definitely not burnt. The sauce included really topped it off. Hush puppies- you know when you go to a good seafood place in the south and get these and then feel like you can't find them that good anywhere else? Try here!

Great takeout joint, small interior and they sell a wide variety of raw fish to be cooked at home. I got the cod box and it was enough to split. The fish is very well cooked and the onion rings were amazing. Would highly recommend.

Very clean, fresh, friendly, and professional. Prices are good for food, reasonable for fish. Nice gem in Grand Rapids

I'm a fan! I was surprised at the quality of the food and service. A great addition to Plainfield Ave. I hope it will be a huge success. We stopped mid-afternoon, and it was very busy, but our order came up in a short time. The shop was clean and cutely decorated, lacking the fishy fried smell I usually associate with fish shops. We will go back often.

My boys have always loved this place and I do too. In summer, the outside space is perfect for having a relaxing lunch while the interior fireplaces provide comfort on a cold, blustery day. I have not had anything but good service as long as I can remember. They have had several burger options over the years, and all of them have been excellent. This will continue to be one of my favorite places for lunch or dinner.
