Told me over the phone no appointment was necessary for a nose piercing and then when I got there he tells me he can't do it cuz he's "booked". I said I can wait and he told me with an attitude that he's done for the day even though it was only 2 pm. I have had tattoos and piercings done by Chris and tattoos done by Alex. All of the tattoos are excellent, high caliber work and I am very happy with them. Both artists are highly professional and talented. The shop is very clean and comfortable. There's plenty of flash to choose from, but theses guys really excel at custom work. Chris did a large piece on the back of my calf, I gave him one reference picture and said I kinda want it to look like this but better. He drew up 3 different designs, I chose elements from each that I liked, he combined them all into one and it was perfect. Collaborating with your artist instead of dictating to them (especially if you have no tattoo experience) Will make for a much better experience overall for everyone. With Alex, from the time I showed him what I wanted to walking out of the shop with it on my body was less than 2 hours. I let him choose the colors and do his own thing with them and they are awesome. Overall, this place is amazing. Everything you could want in a shop. I actually left without getting a tattoo after becoming uncomfortable with the artist's attitude. To be fair, the artist answered my questions and seemed genuinely committed to only doing tattoos that will hold up and look good in the long run. He explained how different parts of the body hold the ink better and therefore are more suitable for tattoos. He also described how the ink gradually spreads and thin lines become thicker over the years. Very informative. Now for the negative. My original idea wouldn't work, so I wanted some advice and suggestions for where else I could get a small, tasteful tattoo in a subtle, discrete spot. Instead of helping me brainstorm, I was subjected to the artist's opinions - things like "why would you want a tattoo you can't see?" and "you shouldn't care what other people think, just get it wherever you want." If he weren't so busy making assumptions and sharing his personal philosophy, I could have told him that I wanted that kind of tattoo because it fit with my aesthetic ideal, not that I'm embarrassed. So I went to Name Brand Tattoo in Ann Arbor where I found someone who was willing to work with me to help me get what I want in a more professional manner. read more

This could be the most arrogant shop owner I have ever met in my life. I went into speak to him about a tattoo and he couldn't be bothered to stop eating his lunch to talk to me - he even talked with his mouth full of some awful smelling sandwich and would silently belch out food-smelling air toward me. He was dismissive and came across like a know it all. I have seen some of his work and he seems like he is pretty good, but his rudeness and arrogance has guaranteed that I will never give him a cent of my money and I will tell others to avoid him as well. read more

Chris can't draw a sketch to save his life! If you don't like his first attempt he'll decide not to work with you. He changes your appointment without contacting you and then blames you for missing your appointment. I'd find another tattoo artist to do your work!!! read more

I have had only one tattoo done here and I was pleased. Color is nice and still is several years later. The shop is clean and well managed. The artist was very good at explaining why the color scheme I first wanted would not work and he was right. read more

I walked in to the shop and was "greeted" with "What do you want". I said I was interested in a floral tattoo and the artist seemed annoyed and impatient. I showed him a design and he said "I can't even see it." I showed him more designs and he said it looked like "fucking Pinterest shit" that would look like shit in 5 years. I felt comfortable with the situation and not impressed with the customer service. Further more he told me a small flower tattoo would be close to 200$. read more

My husband and I walked into Red Anchor Tattoo Co. with specific tattoo ideas in mind. We did not have appointments but were greeted by Chris, the owner, who was friendly and helpful. The shop was nice and really clean. The artist, Bill Crawford, got us back right away, was very friendly, knowledgeable and did an AMAZING job. You can tell that he's experienced and really knows what he's doing. We couldn't be more pleased with the way our tattoos turned out and can't say enough positive things about Bill. DO NOT GO HERE!! Customer service is awful and owner and employees are unprofessional. They don't not spend a waking second trying to help you find the best tattoo. Just hurry up and tell them what you want so they can make you feel rushed the entire time and then kick you out the door to collect the nexts customers money. The owners work is the worst I've had. The only tattoo I got from him is still relatively new and it's already fading and blending and its turning into crap. I absolutely cannot wait to get his garbage work off of me and covered up by another artist far far away from this dump. Tattoos are a life investment so if you want sloppy work that you will regret then check this place out. In disbelief that this place is still in business after the continuous missed appointments and extremely poor customer service. I have had two bad experiences at Red Anchor. The first was with Chris (owner). Scheduled a appointment to show up with him not there and some random artist saying I will be doing your work. I told her NO I wanted a refund. I was advised they don't give refunds. I told her no one called me to make me aware of Chris not being there she said sorry I can't do anything. After a few words were exchanged she called Chris and he ok'd my refund. Next time was with Benjamin Petee I gave him a deposit for start on a half sleeve. He had 6 days to do the out line. The day of once I already left work early and was heading to Red Anchor Ben emailed me to say he has been busy and he can't do my work that day. I had an appointment that day, it wasn't a surprise. He had plenty of time to be prepared. I told him I want a refund for my deposit. He said they don't give refunds for deposits. So here we go again about the no refund policy again. Again they gave me money back after some very negative words were exchanged by both myself and Ben. I will never go there for anything again nor will refer anyone! If you want to be disrespected and treated like your time doesn't matter just to pay someone 120.00 hour for work then this is the place for you! Good luck YOU will need it. read more

I went in to this shop wanting to talk with someone about my idea for a new tattoo. I left wanting to never come back to this place again because I felt so offended by his reaction to a tattoo that I already had. He made fun of my already existing tattoo that actually holds a deep personal meaning to me. I'm sorry not all of us want what you consider to be a worthwhile or good tattoo. Who made you the decider of such things??????? I thought as a tattoo artist, nay, as a person, one should respect the feelings of other people. When I received my Tattoo the young man working the front counter told me explicitly that my Tattoo was covered for fade touch-ups and I could stop in anytime. After just three days my artwork was about 75% gone, after 10 days the artwork was 95% gone ! ! ! I was told on my return trip to receive a touch-up on my FADED Tattoo by the Artist who did the tattoo, that I would NOT be receiving a touch-up as ALL hand art work does not qualify. Does Red Anchor Tattoo sell their artwork on the buy here pay here . . . Sold as is . . . where is . . . Policy? ? ? read more
