Stag Hollow Winery established in the early 1990's is located in Willamette Valley's sub…read moreappellation of Yamhill-Carlton. They are named after a small creek that runs through the property and released their first vintage in 1994. Their main production is Pinot Noir which they showcase in old world styles. However they do offer something very different ... a Willamette valley grown Dolcetto! I first met Jill at a wine event but recently had the opportunity to visit the winery and meet her husband Mark too. Their passion for this craft is evident once you have an opportunity to talk with them and of course taste their wines. The tasting room is open by appointment only or during major holidays such as Memorial Day and Thanksgiving. This converted basement in their home sits high atop a hill overlooking the valley and offers great views. Its down home charm really adds to the experience which is very casual and welcoming. Their tasting fee is only $5 and the wines offer great price points. While most are approachable Mark explained to me that he makes wines meant to be enjoyed 3-5 years after production. However this is not to say they cannot be enjoyed right away. I really liked their 2007 PN, this wine showed off nice fruits that were well complimented by a smoky finish without tasting overly oaked. I also gravitated toward the 2008 Reserve Pinot which showed enormous fruit potential throughout the palate and nice acid balance. Of course I love Dolcetto and was quite taken by theirs which is a rare sight here. Dolcetto is typically a lighter wine much like Pinot Noir but has substantially more fruit with slight spice characteristics and less earthiness. Their Dolcetto is a winner in my book and gets special recognition for being estate grown in the Willamette Valley! So even if you're not a Pinot Noir fan Stag Hollow has plenty of character and diversity to offer you a new and rewarding experience.

She made sure we felt safe and comfortable, but got us started quickly so we could enjoy the day. Horses were a dream to ride - so sweet and easygoing and great for beginners. No sore butts here! We did 3 wineries and all were delicious and had beautiful idea. Amber was great company and chatted with us about wine, horses, and everything in between. Seriously so accommodating and lovely all around. Sarah was also amazing and called me multiple times before our reservation to make sure we still wanted to go out since rain was in the forecast. My mother and I went here in the summer of 2023 and really loved our visit. As a birthday treat my mother bought me a wine tasting for two with a special charcuterie board through Groupon as a birthday gift again this year to use in the summer or around my birthday in September. We weren't able to come back until late fall, but the nice thing about the Groupon is that it lasted for six months. It's a fabulous deal because you get a tasting for two and a chaucuterie cheese and cracker plate to share for an affordable price. This place is one of the few vineyards that has a unique experience like this and a good offer through Groupon. We came back this November (2025) and Crystal helped us. She was so kind and showed us true hospitality. I felt like we were with a good, loyal friend. The wine was fantastic, but when we explained that we only wanted it for our wine tasting and didn't need any to take home, she wasn't upset or bothered. She truly wanted us to enjoy our tasting experience and create a special memory. We talked about wine, cats, and aging. All the important things in life. The cheese and crackers were really nice. We were almost done eating our delights when she offered us more pita chips and walnuts that actually came right from their walnut trees. They were so good. I should have asked if they sold them there. The drive out to the winery is beautiful too. I would definitely recommend this winery to all my wine loving friends.

We were met by Felix, the owner, and while sampling some excellent wines, he asked if we wanted to see him feed the sheep. What a treat!
