I visit Crescent Beach often with my kids and typically I avoid this place due to the line ups and unfriendly service. I usually go to Martino's Cappuccino Bar and Ice Cream but they take cash only and I only had my debit card this time. Reluctantly I visited hoping for friendly service this time. I was met with the same grumpy staff I have come to expect here plus after my transaction was approved and my ice cream being handed to me, my order was pulled back behind the glass and I was told my transaction didn't process. I had to pay again (regrettably I declined the receipt the first time but I saw and so did the clerk, my transaction was approved). I paid again and moments later I checked my banking app and saw that I was billed twice! I went back for a refund and showed them the double charge. They refused to refund and said it would automatically process later. ....it hasn't. Needless to say - I'll be avoiding this place and will just make sure to bring cash for Martino's next time (much friendlier service there anyway!!). read more

This place you literally come here for one thing and one thing only and it's icecream. I had no idea they even had food. Lol I've been coming to this icecream shop for years anytime I go to crescent Beach it's definitely a must to stop here for a cool treat. I don't know whats going on with everyone else's negative reviews. Their prices were cheaper than the other gelato shop up the street a bit and who cares if they have signs in a few different places. They're just letting people know which payments they take. Maybe they're tired of explaining it to people lol they also have a great selection of icecream! And people complain about the price of the icecream it seems pretty standard to me and their location is a prime spot right on the beach. Get the icecream you can't go wrong. Came here for some stupidly overpriced ice cream on August first. We got our ice cream but overheard the girl after us (Katie) ask for a new order because they gave her black liquorice instead of the black cherry she ordered. Simple fix right? Wrong. The older man behind the counter (Jeff) told the girl that it's not their fault that she didn't test the flavour immediately. She should have known to do so. Amateur Gelatanist. Thats when our knight in shining armour (Al) arrives, and tries to explain to Jeff that it's not her fault that she didn't check it, it's the establishments fault for making the wrong order. Now Jeff doesn't take that too well. Jeff stayed strong on the sentencing of this gelato crime. Jeff called Al an asshole for helping Katie, and says she should go to the other place down the road. A yelling match ensued with Al's challenge to "meet him outside" was denied. Jeff finally admitted defeat when a crowd of 15 gathered to watch the brawl. Tons of ice cream flavors. Although I think they would do a whole lot better if they cut down quantity and improved quality. THERE ARE NO SAMPLES...as all the signs serve to remind you that. Pick your flavors wisely. I couldn't discern any marshmallow flavor in my s'mores ice cream. No idea what a Nanaimo Bar really tastes like (sorry I'm not Canadian), but judging from the item description it tasted nowhere near that, the wifey hated it. The ice cream was relatively smooth, but I can't remember the last time I didn't want to finish one. Hey at least the signs say they accept U.S. currency too. read more

If i could give it a negative i would. Someone ahead of us ordered icecream and left.She gave his order to my 5 year old despite me saying thats NOT HIS order. He licked it and thats when the other dude came back. She told my son to keep the ice cream and refused to give him the one we ordered unless we pay extra. Why the hell did you give him the wrong ice cream when i said thats not our order! The entire ride home i had my 5 year old crying because we had to accept someone else's order over the their mistake. I will never buy from here. Lame place. read more

Don't let the "restaurant" in the name fool you... it's a fast food joint by Crescent Beach. The other fish and chip place up the street was closed, and we were craving greasy battered fish on a bed of fries, so we decided to give this place a try. "Maybe it looks crappy, but there's a chance the food could be really good," I said, hopefully, optimistically. The fish was edible, although it did resemble a large fish stick. The fries were likely dunked in the fryer from frozen. Arrrh. I've been had. At the end of the meal, my husband went to take our unused ketchup packets and tartar sauce, along with the containers and napkins, back to the counter. He thought he was saving the old couple running the place a trip to bus the table. Instead, she summarily tosses the unused packets, and tells him to throw out the garbage himself. Crescent Beach lacks for both quantify and quality of places to eat at. I personally would NOT eat at the Red Baron. For me, this is strictly an ice cream place. This family run place just cares about volume and margin. So you're not going to get quality eats or ice cream, just whatever they can get for cheap to mark up and sell you. In most instances this is bad, but down at Crescent Beach when you just want a simple ice cream cone, this option is fine. They're not outrageously priced ($3 for one scoop) and whereas years ago they were cash only, now they accept debit. read more

This restaurant is okay, their ice cream is good and their fries seem frozen. The staff however are sub-par. I asked my friend why he was giggling, and a staff member responded, "because he is stupid." I also want to add, they have unnecessary door that is very confusing. Went here with a friend and ordered 2 cones. There was a misunderstanding and he gave us one cone with 2 scoops. When we informed him of the error *he* blamed *us* and verbally admonished us. We eventually got our cones, but discovered while eating them he had (probably purposefully) crushed the tops of the cones so that they disintegrated within a half dozen licks. I almost lost mine in the dirt. Great passive-aggressive revenge against a paying customer. I'm never going back and I advise anyone else to never go. Go to Marble Slab instead. Unbelievably bad. It's just fish and chips and these guys have been doing it for 30 years. But when I went in the fish was frozen not fresh. The price was on par with fresh but the fish pieces were shaped. Chips were soggy. When I asked why it was a bit off the owner snapped at me "it's fresh!" and then walked into the back of the restaurant. Don't go. Don't waste your money. Try the Greek place across the street. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! This was the worst fish and chips and worst service I have received in all of Vancouver! The fish was clearly frozen (the employee lied and said it was fresh). It was basically an oversized highliner fish stick that left me feeling ill. Save your money and get your food/iced cream somewhere else. We used to have Fish and Chips from the Red Baron ever since I was a kid (what... 30 years). Either I've gotten snobbier or a clue or Red Baron has turned into the cheapest-run scam on Crescent Beach! (or perhaps a bit of both) Returned to Crescent Beach yesterday for the first time in years and wantd to grab halibut and chips for myself, my preschooer, and my baby. Feeling loyal to my past, we returned to a rather-dead inside Red Baron and ordered a 2 piece halibut and chips and a medium strawberry smoothie. At 16.75 for the fish and chips, I neglected to order more but I figured this should be a fair lunch for me and my little ones. ``Exactly 6 minutes``sowe walked down the block and returned a few minutes later... to blank stares fromt he older gentlemen behid the counter. Even though the place we was very quiet with only a group of 3 young guys waiting for their order. I had to dig out my reciept to collect my fish and chips and the smoothie had been forgotten altogether. Andwhen I glanced down into my fish and chips bag - I actually snickered and laughed straight out loud! Inside were two of the smallest (about 2x4``) pieces of densely battered halibut and a handful (probably about 20 small) french fries, It was sad! I held up the two tiny pieces of fish and showed the young guys waiting and we had a laugh about it. I would have said something to the counter man, but he took one look at me, and swiveled on his heel and trotted into the back.I figure he`d heard it all before. It cost us $24.30 for this fish and chips meal and smoothie, which really is a child-sized meal (and we are not greedy people expecting american sized portions...ever!). The meal barely fed my five year old daughter and my 1 year old only had a few fries. 2 hours later, starved, we headed to Pelago`s Greek Cuisine on the beach to be served seafood on the patio from attentive staff in clean white shirts - for much less than cheap cheap stingy Red Baron. It`s a shame, I fondly remember eating at Red Baron as a child but I just will never go back. Even grabbing ice cream later - we trotted right past. I even noticed that the Red Baron had removed the picnic tables and seating from theri restaurant which had been there forever - now there are a few very high circular standing tables to stand and eat at - if you even bother. Frankly, this place sucks and these people just don`t get it! We`re not looking for a hand-out, simply fresh, simple fish and chips in fair amount. It`s not rocket science! read more
