    2 piece cod and chips

Hooked Fish Bar - Crescent Beach You can never go wrong with good fish and chips! The restaurant had strong "ocean side" vibes, with metal tables and surf boards. The batter on the fish was really crispy, and not claggy or greasy like a lot can be. The fries were also very fresh and crisp. 2 piece cod and chips (with a Kilkenny beer) - 8/10 - a really tasty meal and exactly what I was craving! Everything was very fresh, and came out quickly. Cod Burger - 7.5/10 - also very fresh and crispy. Perhaps a bit heavy on the mayo, but that's me being really picky I would definitely come back! Oceanside views, the smell of the water, with fish and chips and a cold beer is really hard to beat some days!

Calamari. Half of the basket was salad greens, and tzatziki sauce.

The calamari was good, but half of the basket was the tzatziki sauce, and salad greens. $16.

These Fish pieces were the BIGGEST I've ever seen at a restaurant yet! Really loved that!

I went to the beach for some seafood : Fish N Chips to be specific and I believe I ended up at the right place. My partner and I were greeted the moment we walked in and sat in the inside but you still got the breeze (WHICH WAS GREAT) There was so many choices but I feel like there weren't enough seafood choices on the Menu for a restaurant by the beach.. which was quite disappointing. I got the Fish N Chips and substituted the fries for the coconut rice (WHICH IS TO DIE FOR - IM SERIOUS ITS A MUST TRY) It comes with a lemon wedge, tartar sauce and lots of coleslaw (which I think is great because I actually like coleslaw.. LOL, right? I'm one of those) BUT they did have seeds in them which I did not like so much.. It comes with two pieces of fish - They have the BIGGEST pieces of fish I have seen anywhere yet! And let me tell you that hard to find. Needless to say service was GREAT, prices were OK, portions were BIG, food was DELICIOUS, scenery was BREATH TAKING what more can you ask for? If you're ever in White Rock and want some Fish N Chips stop on by this little gem. Because I defiantly sure will again!

First sunny spring day and the patio is full. The kitchen is under pressure so the food is not cooked through. SO DISAPPOINTING. The sunflower seeds in the Cole slaw are rancid, the fries barely brown and the cod under cooked. GO DIRECTLY TO THE KITCHEN. BUY THE STAFF A BEER. Ask them to regroup. Take a breath and send out the food ONCE IT IS COOKED PROPERLY.

Really lovely spot for lunch on the beach. I had the oyster po'boy and a salad with a cup of chowder. My uncle had the fried cod and my aunt the baked. Everyone's food was really nice! Service was great and it came out fast. The menu is actually full of great stuff to explore but what really makes this place is it's phenomenal location. They also have a to-go window (see picture) you can order from. Hooked is definitely a must if you're in the area!

Table was dirty & smelled like dried alcohol. The 'Clam Chowdah', though pretty good, is literally 8 spoons... the Fish&Chips (2 piece) wasn't deep fried properly & the skin pretty much peeled off the way KFC's fried chicken does too. The Salmon Burger was alright. 2piece Fish&Chips+SalmonBurger+ClamChowdah+pintofHookedLager+RaspberryMojito= $60 Raspberry Mojito was awesome.

Can be long line ups! Convenient location to beach. Poutine was great! Hot dog and fries were good for the price in the area. Fries were crispy.

Calamari and fresh cut and fried taro root chips... you gotta try them as little canapés together!

Decent food. Friendly service. Just a little hut along the beach. Not much to look at inside.

We opted to sit near the window. The room is nicely decorated and the tables all have good lighting and are well spaced apart, so conversation is easy. It is quiet and very relaxing. The food and service were really good. We told our server that we were in no rush and he allowed us time between courses. He was very good explaining all the specials of the day to us. There were only 2 servers but they seemed to handle the full dining room very well. They had a special appetizer, soup and entrée. We shared jumbo prawns in a sundried tomato aioli as an appetizer. It was lovely with 5 jumbo prawns perfectly cooked in a delicious sauce. For entrees my husband had a New York steak with tomato and bone marrow butter and I had wiener schnitzel. My husband's steak was perfectly cooked and one of the nicest steaks that we've had. My wiener schnitzel came with spätzle and red cabbage. It was better than the wiener schnitzel that I had recently at a restaurant that specializes in German food. We shared a chocolate lava cake for dessert. It was served hot in a small ramekin and come with vanilla ice cream. It was a good way to end our meal. It was a great night out.

I would have liked the meat to be a little more well done (especially when they ask you for your preference) but overall it was delicious and a generous portion. We also brought our toddler along to the restaurant. I was pleased to discover they had a kids pasta meal (need to ask the waiter for the menu options). We chose the pasta and butter parmesean and added prawns for an additional charge. Our little one loved it and slathered the pasta sauce all over their face as they were eating. Final note: this restaurant doesn't have high chairs available so if you little one still needs some sort of booster seat, you'll need to pack your own.

And while there are no shortage of seafood restaurants serving fresh crab on the Steveston waterfront, we wanted to give The Crab King a fair shake. I'm so glad that we did! My wife ordered a King Crab for herself which, after tearing it literally limb-from-limb, eventually declared it to be tied for her favorite boiled crab dish anywhere! High praise coming from such a consummate crustacean connoisseur! For myself and our son, an order of fish and chips, and the grilled chicken sandwich rounded out our order, both of which were crispy, tasty and delicious. Regarding the fish and chips, they appeared to be tempura-battered, and I'm still not 100% sure what type of fish it was. It may have been cod, but it seemed more like catfish, but either way, it was tender, juicy, flaky and delicious. No complaints here! More than anything, though, the employees here went out of their way to make our experience enjoyable. Our toddler son, who is normally extremely well-behaved in restaurants, was having a bit of a fuss here and there. Without prompting, the servers brought us a little radio to play music for him, as well as a couple of toys to play with, one of them being a wind-up truck that they gave to him to take home! He loved it there, and still plays with it at home! They even played peek-a-boo with him from behind the counter, soliciting laughs and giggles, for the better part of 15 minutes! That sort of customer service is nearly impossible to find, and should be praised and cherished wherever it is found! Whatever the past may have held for this restaurant, the Crab King is an entirely new animal now, serving up fresh seafood by uncommonly wonderful employees, in a fantastic floating location. They even offer to cook spot prawns and other seafood purchased from the boats docked at the nearby waterfront marketplace, for a modest fee. With all these things going for it, there's no doubt who wears the crown of Crab King in Steveston Harbor!

It was a long time coming and they did not disappoint! From the warm and inviting atmosphere, and historical heritage house setting, to attentive waitstaff, and delicious menu options, served in the highest quality and with attention to detail, we were blown away. They sat us promptly at our reservation time, pulling the table for us to sit comfortably. Free complimentary crab puffs were given along with ice water, free baguette slices, and whipped butter. We ordered our martinis, which were delicious vibrant, balanced, and themed to the city. They were delicious and the mixture was mixed perfectly. He had the White Rock and enjoyed it; I had the Green Timbers. Our charcuterie was expertly plated and gorgeous to look at, along with fresh and delicious. The cheese, cured meats, and fruits were fresh, crisp, tangy, and perfectly paired with one another for a solid appetizer. We then had our encores. The steak I had (he had the duck) was the most supple, soft, juicy, and perfectly cooked medium rare I've had in my memory. I swear. If you love steak.. you'll love it. Perfectly seasoned, supple and soft... gorgeous. Along with the pillowy, crispy potatoes and veggies? Classic! The waitstaff were friendly, efficient, attentive, and cordial, with a smile and clearly loved their job. Ours, Mike, said he'd been at the place for over 10 years.. clearly, he liked coming to work. It's great to see! We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our experience at the Old Surrey Restaurant and will 100% be back again, as well as plan. On gifting dinner to the in laws.
