The home of Dublin Soda(formerly Dr. Pepper) and Granny Clark's huge pancakes. Me and life partner wanted to recreate our trips to Ireland and Paris, but alas on a budget. In Dublin, Texas everything supports the idea of its humble Town. I thought what best way to honor our trip was to seek out an Irish or seemingly Irish Pub. I will say I have had the pleasure of going to an Irish Pub in Kimmage. I think people fixate too much on the merits of the authenticity of a place. For example the process of serving a proper Guiness pint or even Irish Pub fare. They tend to forget what makes an Irish Pub. It is really in its vibe. Are the owners friendly and good hosts? Does it have a fun and welcoming energy? Is it that neighborhood hangout where you want to camp out friends, family or loved ones? My answer is a resounding yes. We came here on a Thursday night and it wasn't too busy. When this occurs this is the optimal time for owners to make a connection to its patrons. Firstly the owners said two things: Welcome and is this your first time here. Simple niceties don't cost a thing but are invaluable. The soundtrack of a place always dictates its crowd. I noticed the soundtrack is 90's with Color Me Badd, freestyle stuff and other nostalgic music on rotation. The noise level is perfect to facilitate conversations I ordered the Cluck of the Irish. And my life partner had "The Thing." Each were both appropriate bar fare. I had a Guinness from a can and Killian's Red Ale from a bottle. My only critique is they need to offer Guiness on tap. It doesn't need to be on Nitro. I don't expect the pour to be exactly like the one I had in Dublin. I will say I like it's subtle touches: the use of Celtic iconography, leprechauns and four leafed clovers. It is absolutely charming. Before I go on I must mention that the food was good, the service was excellent. The owners are extremely friendly. Each time I requested a refill the owner would oblige me and would pour a beer for me. And I can't pour a pint to save my life. Every business should be viewed in the context of where it's located. Shenanigans is in a very small town. It has Dublin Soda to claim. I believe there is only one supermarket. On a Friday night this place becomes the epicenter. And rightfully so. It is a fun place for friends, couples and families. As we were leaving it was filling up. They needed to cue House of Pain's, "Jump Around."

Being old timers with small appetites we customarily share an entree, but when I learned that an order consists of two, not the customary three tacos, I ordered a plate for each of us. Big mistake! Hahaha. These tacos are humongous! I'm afraid I totally failed to fulfill my duties as a responsible Yelper and take a photo of the presented plate. Attached is a pic of one, but the pic does not adequately provide for you a sense of the taco's actual size. We each had to work to finish one each. This creation is a work of taco art. A taco masterpiece. The tortilla appears to be house-made. The large pieces of chicken breast, perfectly seasoned and breaded; and crisply fried rest on a bed of some of the tastiest cole slaw ever. The fried chicken is then topped with a couple sauces that sing with the chicken and finished with house made hot honey. This taco is worth the drive to Hico from FTW for lunch. Service was once again very pleasant and attentive. Was there a couple of weeks ago on a Saturday and I had not been there in over a year but my last time was a good time. As I arrived at the front door there were 2 guys in line with "untucked" shirts. I saw a little sign in front of them that had a picture of a snub nosed handgun. Apparently, they have a new rule where if you have an untucked shirt you must lift it up and turn around in a circle so they can see you are not carrying a firearm. VERY FAIR AND I GET IT. I'm actually all for the safety of everyone. Well...the 2 guys ahead of me walked right in and pass the doorman after showing their ID. But when I got to him a manager walks up to the doorman and informs him "It's important that you search everyone who comes in". Ok.... so he makes me do the shirt lift and turn and once convinced I had no gun he let me go in.... but I was curious. So I stand there and watched my other 2 "untucked" shirt friend come in, show their ID and walk right in without being searched. From behind them, 2 more "untucked" shirt people walked in after showing their ID's....no search. I felt really embarrassed and humiliated and my friends were in a bit of a shock as well. Because the only difference between me and the 6 people who did not get checked for firearms was my dark skin tone. But it's not all negative. The music was great and the bar staff was amazingly friendly and knowledgeable. I would love to come back but after the incident to get in to this place....I think it's better if I didn't.
