I took my Cat there for some Gastric Issues, they sent her home with some medications and 1 of them had been expired since May 2023 and now its July. The front office staff is very rude and unprofessional, when you have a complaint and want to speak to a manager or supervisor they claim there isn't one. and they are very very expensive. over $500.00 for my cat to be spayed. also they do things without your permission, for example when I went to pick up my cat from having the surgery I noticed they were billing me Fleat Treatment that I had never told them to do. when I asked why they did it they could not give me an answer. so please find another Vet. My first review ever! I'm super happy with Our visit today! My Pomeranian dog Coco got his teeth cleaned today on the best way as it could be! Coco is not even 2 years old,but had dental calculus on few teeth and very bad breath. I dropped him off at 10am and at 12.30 he was already done! I didn't check his teeth in clinic,but when we got home and I saw his totally white perfect teeth,I felt super excited and satisfied with the result! Also he smells good now! Be aware that this vet clinic is not equipped to keep or care for pets after surgery. If something goes wrong you will be referred to a pet emergency hospital where you will wait for hours out in the parking lot , spend hundreds of dollars and might even be rejected and sent back to your vet . Never, ever schedule a surgery around Holidays. If an emergency arises and Dr. Cruz is out on vacation there will be no other surgeon left in his place to take care of the situation. The other vet at this clinic, Dr. Lacret is not a surgeon and most likely will not even take time to look at your pet, you will be referred to a pet emergency hospital. I called today saying that my dog was not responsive and if they could help me and they said they were too busy and backed up with cases. After 10 years? My dog did die and we are heartbroken. I'm not exaggerating when I say that Dr. Cruz is truly an ANGEL, and I praise him and the Red Bird staff every chance I get! In 2008, I found a stray dog and took him to Red Bird to check his chip because it just happened to be the closest vet around. The girl at the front desk told me that he was a young, pure-bred cocker spaniel, registered to "Puppies to Go" (a HORRIBLE animal shop that I've already reviewed here on Yelp). After calling the pet shop, posting a Craigslist ad, and putting up signs, no one claimed the dog. A week or two into this, I fell in love with him, and I couldn't picture being without him! So, we kept him, and we named him "Charlie." Pretty soon thereafter, we noticed that Charlie had blood in his stool. So, we went back to Red Bird Animal Clinic to have them check him out. Turns out, Charlie had heart worms, stomach worms, an advanced ear infection, and a skin infection! He also had a bite mark on the top of his right ear that looked to be infected. Charlie needed MAJOR life-saving treatment, and Dr. Cruz had a big talk with me to prepare me for Charlie's death (which he believed was almost certain at this point). I told Dr. Cruz that I couldn't afford the thousands upon thousands of dollars that it would take to even TRY to save Charlie with the little chances he had. I was working full-time to get through college back then, and I had no way of pulling it off. Considering that he knew Charlie was a rescue, and that he knew my circumstances, Dr. Cruz gave me each and every discount he could, as well as a payment plan, all to give Charlie a shot at life. He didn't have to do any of it, but he found it in his heart to help us get through this! Charlie had to go through weeks of sitting in a cage without movement so that his heart wouldn't get out of control. He went through so many doctor visits, medicines, x-rays, needle pricks, biopsies, stool samples... I can't even tell you how many. But thankfully, after all of that hard work, Dr. Cruz and the Red Bird staff saved his life! Charlie was at the clinic so often, I remember one of the young techs getting teary eyed when Charlie was finally able to go home and not come back until his next annual exam. But, sure enough, I stuck with Red Bird just like they stuck with Charlie! (I stopped going there only because I moved out of the area, and I was sad to have to change clinics!) I have now had Charlie for 8 wonderful years. He'll be approx. 9 years old in April, and he has a clean bill of health. I said before that Dr. Cruz saved Charlie's life, but he really saved mine, too. This boy has been a life-changing miracle for me. I always tell people that he fell out of the sky and onto my lap during a difficult time in my life so that I would have someone to look after and love. Without having him during that time period, I really don't know where I would be, but I know my life wouldn't be as good as it is right now. THANK YOU, DR. CRUZ AND RED BIRD ANIMAL CLINIC!! I have taken my dog Molly here since I got her at 8 weeks old. She's five now. First of all, it's rather convenient to get an appointment. They open at around 8am so Ive been able to take my dog there before work. Dr. Cruz is great with his patients - both canines and the parents. He is gentle with my and explains everything in detailed and understandable laymen's terms. He is young but extremely knowledgeable and reliable. He and his staff are very honest and realistic about treatments and pricing. ALERT ALERT ALERT ALERT I ended up at Red Bird because my Vet of more than 20 yrs joined that practice this year. My little chihuahua lost a tooth and had another one loose while playing tug-a-war with her puppy friend so I took her to Dr Lacret, and when told , he laughed and told me the loose one might fall on his own but that she needed a cleaning and set up and appointment with Dr. Cruz. When I arrived the day of her cleaning I was asked to sign a consent to extract tooth ( which I regretfully did) . When I went to pick her up a bill was waiting as follows: $811.40 with a courtesy discount ( lucky me) of $ 118.00 total amount to be paid $ 693.40. NO ONE CALL TO LET ME KNOW ABOUT THE 8 (EIGHT) EXTRACTIONS DONE. When asked Dr. Cruz explanation was that after x-rays he discovered a " A RARE INFECTION UNDERNEATH THE GUM" ( Dr Lacret had checked her teeth less than a year before and found no anomalies. I came in contact with Dr Cruz and staff as he was recommended to me as I was in dire need of a Vet for my dog. I didn't just come across a Vet and office staff but a true compassionate person that happens to be a Veterinarian. I had previously Visited vets before so I do have a baseline. My dog was difficult, old(17 yrs), with neurological problems. Dr Cruz knew how to maneuver him to the full potential. His staff was also loving and understanding. Redbird Animal Clinic has very good service and is conveniently located. The vet is very pleasant, and is always kind and caring to all of his patients. He always gives us helpful and clear tips on how to improve our pet's health. A few years ago my cat, Kimba, had a very severe case of worms. We brought her to the Dr. Cruz, and he gave us some great advice. He prescribed some medication for her, and she has been in good health since. They always send us reminders for when our cats are do for their vaccines, which I really appreciate. Although I no longer live in Miami, I have to share my love for the Red Bird Animal Clinic. The staff are some of the nicest people ever and I never felt worried when I boarded my dog with them. Not only did they remember her every time we came back, but my dog was always genuinely happy to return. On top of that, when my parents' older dog became sick while they were visiting me, Dr. Cruz took very good care of him and continued to check in on him even after they had returned to New York. One could easily overlook the place because it's in the middle of a giant shopping center but it's a gem of a business. I brought my 5 year old dog in for non anesthesia dental cleaning and he was too freaked out. to get it. Dr. Cruz then called and asked if he can do an anesthesia one. I accepted and 2 hours later got a call that he had died during sedation.That was in October. Today I receive a postcard reminding me to bring him in for a checkup. I am so glad to have this public forum to applaud the Red Bird Animal Clinic. I visited the clinic last week for my dog's annual exam and inquiry about loss of pigment on his nose. Dr. Cruz was warm and gentle with my dog and able to anticipate and answer all of my questions in a detailed and caring manner. Dr. Cruz was thoughtful about whether to administer all the vaccinations at one time considering the dog's previous medical history. The loss of pigment involved a decision as to whether to biopsy/sample the area and Dr. Cruz advised that since the nose is such a sensitive area, the sampling procedure might aggravate the condition. Dr. Cruz felt that the best course of action was to wait and see and he stated that he would call in a week to check on the dog's progress. I left the clinic feeling satisfied and listened to and my dog,who suffers from post traumatic stress due to prior hospitalizations, was calmer than I would have expected after a full exam. The best was yet to come. Yesterday I noticed that the three year rabies tag/license that I purchased had fallen off my dog's collar. I called the Vet's office about a replacement tag and was told that the Animal Control Ordinance allowed a replacement tag at the cost of $5, however the tag would be a one year tag meaning that last week's $81 expense was now null. I became quite irate at the unfair treatment and was told that it was a County/State rule and there was nothing that the vet could do. Much to my surprise about an hour later I received a call from Susie Londono, the clinic receptionist, who had called Animal Control and dealt with the bureaucracy for me and convinced an officer at Animal Control to allow the clinic to reissue a replacement three year tag for a replacement fee. Susie had all of the information, including the Officer's name should I run into any difficulty. She also showed great understanding and compassion and took time and energy to be certain the new tag and the dog's old microchip tag were securely attached to his collar. Thank you Dr. Cruz and Susie for redefining excellence in caring service. I cherish such experiences and will never forget that you went the extra mile for me and my pet. read more

Dr. Cruz is a really wonderful veterinarian. My family has been taking our pets to him for almost a decade. Between my sister and me, we've taken a total of five dogs, two foster dogs, and two cats to Dr. Cruz, and his care has always been exceptional. He's very experienced and knowledgeable but is also extremely compassionate - towards both the pets he's treating and their owners. There are at least a dozen vet clinics closer to my house, but I happily drive the extra miles to take my dog to Red Bird because I trust them to give her the best care possible. My pets over the years have been treated by Dr. Cruz for a pretty wide variety of medical issues from the mundane (ear infections and upset stomachs) to the severe (neurological problems and cancers), and it's always been comforting to know that they're being cared for by such a committed and talented doctor. Especially when you're confronted suddenly with a serious medical issue, it's reassuring to have a veterinarian as patient as Dr. Cruz who's willing to explain the treatment options to you over and over again until you feel like you've wrapped your head around the issue and can make the best decision for your pet. The feeling you get from Dr. Cruz is that he genuinely cares about your pet and, maybe even more importantly, that he understands just how much your pet means to you. The staff at Red Bird deserve high praise too - the techs have always been very sweet with my pets and the front desk is welcoming and quick to respond to issues and questions. The prices are definitely reasonable, and the office is surprisingly good about running on time (I've never had to wait more than five or ten minutes). The clinic looks pretty nondescript from the outside since it's in the middle of a fairly busy strip mall, but the facilities inside are clean and modern. After all these years, I can honestly say that the level of care, professionalism and warmth at Red Bird is something really special, and I can't imagine taking my pets anywhere else. read more
