I brought my cat to VCA for a follow-up appointment a week after his endoscopy for eating string. We normally come here for his regular vet care, so this experience was really disappointing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was running about 20 minutes late due to heavy Brickell traffic, so I called ahead to let them know in case they needed to reschedule me. The front desk told me to still come in and assured me they would be able to see us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I arrived, I specifically asked about the wait time because I knew I was late, and I was told it should not be long since the doctor only had one appointment ahead of us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] While waiting, I was informed that my cat's CareClub plan had been canceled and I needed to pay $110 to reactivate it, which I did immediately. Shortly after, a technician brought us into a treatment room and asked about the reason for the visit. He was very kind and professional. Unfortunately, after that we were left waiting in the treatment room for nearly 2 hours with absolutely no communication or updates from anyone. Nobody checked in on us or explained the delay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]At that point, I decided to leave. I walked right past the front desk where four employees were standing, and nobody stopped me, asked if everything was okay, or even acknowledged that I was leaving after waiting that long. Out for a walk one Sunday and a kitten calls for help from the bushes. He looked hungry and had some weird stuff in his eyes. He's not my kitten and I was worried it was going to cost me a fortune and be stressful to have him seen by a vet, but I couldn't just leave him there. Fortunately VCA made the whole process so easy and made me and the little guy feel so welcome. We came in as a walk-in around 10am on a Monday and were seen right away. Everyone--the front desk, the vet tech, the vet--were all so lovely and clearly enjoy being around animals. They put kitten at ease with lots of treats and pets and thoroughly examined him. Because this was his first time seeing them, they waived the exam and only charged me for his deworming ($17). I am not sure I will be able to keep this guy, but if you just got a kitten, they have a nice subscription service where exams are paid for their first year as well as vaccines and the like. My dog Lychee has been a patient of Dr. Wilbur's since she was a puppy fourteen years ago. Lychee was even featured on the hospital's advertisements years ago! I have two cats, one 8 year old female Himalayan and a 8 month old Domestic Shorthaired. I have taken both of my babies to this vet and I've had a wonderful experience each time! With COVID, they are doing curbside drop off/pickup and then virtually speak with the doctor on Zoom or over the phone. I signed up for the meds subscription so I wouldn't need to come back, and we were on our way. Fast forward to a few days ago when I received my first subscription medication by mail. I gave it to my dog, at the time not realizing it wasn't the same medication I picked up in person the month before - my mistake for not double-checking, but typically, vet offices will proactively let you know if they change your pet's medication, especially considering the different side effects. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The next morning, my dog was lethargic, refused food, and vomited bile several times. I thought it might pass, but I called the vet for advice. At this point, he hadn't eaten for 3 meals, was extremely tired, and vomited all over the house, so I brought him in. A vet tech was immediately confused about why the medication they mailed was different from what I originally received in person before - this was the first time I heard about any mix-up. It suddenly made sense why my dog was so sick. I left him with them, but I called after not hearing anything for two hours. They said they would get to him soon. The vet called 30 minutes later, suggesting expensive X-rays and bloodwork. I specifically asked them to focus on treating my dog for the reaction to the wrong medication, but the vet flat-out denied that they gave the wrong meds, despite the vet tech's earlier confusion (or maybe admission? IDK) after checking my dog's chart. I get they didn't want liability, but it was frustrating. Eventually, she agreed to just treat his symptoms. She gave me a price and said I could come to pick him up in 20 minutes. Here's where things got bizarre. Confused, I said yes, and he snapped that my dog wasn't doing well and that they suggested hospitalization.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As a side note, it feels incredibly inappropriate to interact with people whose dogs may not be doing well in this manner. How about some kindness, compassion, or empathy? I was shocked - I had just spoken with the vet, and they told me to come get him. When I asked what had changed, the man said my dog had diarrhea and smelled terrible. I asked to speak with the vet, who didn't seem to know what the front desk person was talking about but recommended fluids to be safe. Scared by the sudden change, I agreed. I am unsure if this was some sort of sales tactic, but it certainly worked on me! When I arrived, they brought out my dog. He was clearly unwell but nowhere near the critical condition the staff member had implied. We went home, and my dog slowly began to recover. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The next day, I called at noon to double-check his care instructions to ensure I wasn't missing anything important. They told me they couldn't take the call and would call me back soon. I have come to this vet i think since 2015 and I LOVE the doctors and the technicians here, my first DR was DR. Riviera and she was super sweet and very nice. In my last visit I had DR. Saldana who answered all my questions, she made me feel calm in a very bad situation for my dog and gave me all the recommendations needed to proceed with him. I was able to call her days after my dog's appointment for any questions I had and she was very patient and understanding with me. Technicians are amazing and patient with the dogs, they do a great job. I specially love Ricardo and Daniela who work there. The very big issue here is the front desk which I think is one of the worst customer services I HAVE EVER had!!!!!!! I have called different times during 4 days straight to get a refill for my dog and explained to them that without this pill my dog CANNOT go to his appointment wich is tomorrow. I have come for 4 days to the closest pharmacy and the pharmacist keep telling me nobody has sent a prescription on my name. We found a stray while on vacation. We were able to get him an appointment and seen by a vet the same day even though it was the weekend. Although we had to wait a little bit, they gave us a box/carrier to keep him in while we waited and went to lunch. Luckily because he wasn't sick they were kind enough to let us board him there until the end of our trip because we couldn't bring him to the hotel. They were very helpful and so kind. Could it be too good to be true? Turns out, nope! The first consultation is free if you print out the certificate on their website. It was easy to make an appointment within 24 hours of my initial call; however, they do take walk-ins if you have more urgent needs. We see Dr. Rivera who is amazing with our dog. She is so sweet, patient and caring, but so are all the technicians and even front desk staff! We have left a couple of times with medication and they always follow up the next day to see how she is doing. Besides that, I've called with one off questions a few times and they are always able to help. Parking is easy, as there's a lot directly behind the building, so don't let the Brickell address scare you. I'm not a parent, so bringing home a new pet last week was the first time I've had something so innocent and helpless fully relying on me. I was so relieved to find Brickell Animal Hospital and the friendly staff to calm my new pet mom nerves! Long story short, I brought my kitten home from Miamj-Dade Animal Services (another review coming on that soon) on a Saturday evening and found the little guy's microchip was falling out of his back! I was enraged, upset and mostly worried. The microchip company said unless he appeared to be in pain to wait until the morning, so I ended up here since it is (miraculously) open on Sundays. The staff saw us within 15 minutes, without an appointment and stitched the little guy back up as good as new. They also informed us the 1.7 lb approximately 7-week old kitten (according to MDAS) was really .65lb and about 3 weeks old! Every worker we encountered appeared to truly care about animals- which seems like it would be obvious at a vet's office but you never know. The doctor even called me the next day to check up on the kitten - and me - and remind me of the important shots he'll need once he is big enough. I wasn't planning on bringing him here regularly since it's not the closest vet to my home, but they may have changed my mind. Parking can be a pain (it is Brickell after all) but getting proper care for my pet will be worth it! If you do end up adopting a pet from MDAS, Brickell Animal Hospital will also waive the check up fees if you bring them in within 30 days. I had to have my Pomeranian of 15 years put down and i left at peace knowing that the care was the best ever. This is a very small, cramped facility that is too busy, and disorganized. My puppy was allergic to the leptospirosis vaccine, the doctor knew, and assured me that they would administer further shots in a manner that would be safe. My dog again experienced a violent reaction, and I called the hospital and they told me to rush her back to them. When I arrived, my urgency was dismissed, I was told that they would "get to me when they could" as my dog was in mid anaphylaxis due to their own negligence. Due to supreme lack of communication between doctor and front desk, my dog could have died. I had to drive 20 minutes to the nearest emergency room.
