Genuinely one of my favorite (if not, MY FAVORITE) dog parks in Austin. In my opinion this is as pretty as it gets when it comes to dog parks in Austin. The parking lot is a bit small. I will say that, but it's totally worth it. If you have to wait a bit to get a spot it's a small loop and when you get to the end of the trail on the other side, there's gorgeous trees in the most beautiful view that I think some of Austin's trails have to offer. They also have a couple stands with poop bags and it is an off-leash dog park so keep that in mind but since it also is kind of like a trail they walk around and they follow their owners mostly and then in between some areas, the dogs play and some of them even jump into the water and stuff, but I wouldn't really recommend that because the water isn't super super clean but overall just such a good spot to take your furry friend or just to go take a walk in the morning or afternoon! read more

It is a beautiful and hidden gem in Austin. It is the only "island" in Austin that you can get to by driving. It is known as a dog park with dogs running off-leash and into the water to play. It is a family-friendly park and is a great spot for views, nature, relaxation, and even photos. My fiancé proposed to me here because he was in awe of the natural beauty that Red Bud had to offer! I had never been here before, but now it is a special place for my financé and me. It only takes about a 5-minute walk from the small parking lot to the peninsula with the large tree. How have I lived in Austin for so long and NOT been to Red Bud Isle? If you have a pup and/or want a low-key spot to stretch your legs in nature, this is a great destination. A wide loop trail surrounded by pretty views of trees, water, and birds. Lots of shady benches for chilling. So many cute dogs to pet. That being said, this will not be your scene if you're scared of four-legged friends because most are off leash. And parking is a crapshoot, so you'll need patience or luck on your side. read more

Probably our favorite dog park in Austin! Technically a peninsula (not an island as discussed via multiple sources on line), this was a great area to get scenic views and exercise for my dog. While it is surrounded by water for the most part, there is still a main road near by and no fencing; your dog must have some recall ability. When we visited a woman had a hard time getting her dog away from the main road, so just be aware! Your dog Can remained leashed if you wish. There are a lot of dense brush your dog can slip into; a bright or reflective bandana/collar would've been helpful. We brought a blanket and sat at the top of the peninsula by the tree. Was very comfy! My dog even fell asleep for a bit. I didn't have a hard time finding parking as it was on Christmas Day. Can't wait to come back! read more

What a cute small park for the fur babies in your life. Took my "nephew" Great Dane for a little trot around. They have a nice solid flat path, dog poop bag stands scattered throughout. There is water all around, so on those hot Texas days, they can easily go in and out of the water. A couple park benches to sit and just be at peace. Today wasn't a lot of people so we had the place almost to ourselves. It's off leash, and you can find that the dogs that come here are nice, well behaved and off leash. Parking lot is nice as well. It's small, and it is a small park. But it's beautiful. They had these like palm trees, which seemed out of place. But it was nice to see them. Apparently people fish here as well. If you have a broken fishing line, there's even a place to put it so not to harm the water life. Small fish and turtles can be found here. Oh I also want to mention that the path is well shaded. This is a hidden paradise for not only dog lovers but folks who wants to launch their kayaks. This park is nestled very close to some of the popular commercial establishments like Mozart's and Hula-Hut. One can walk around the entire perimeter of the park within 1 hour (the stroll includes few pit stops for picture taking and Nature gazing). I found two downsides for the park. 1) Somethings the place could have awful lingering stink because of doggy poop (especially after rain). 2) The parking space is very limited and fills up quickly. read more

Love this area! It feels like a hidden spot from the city and our dogs love this place (on leash). The only downside is that it's small and a short walk, but the view is gorgeous. The other Red Bud Isle page says this park is closed due to COVID, but that is false! This place is open and beautiful, a small island in the middle of ladybird lake with a cute trail. You'll see many cute dogs here and there's poop bags for your fur babies. You can also bring your kayak and launch it here! However, no swimming is allowed. The trees here are beautiful and provide plenty of shade. Loved sitting here and watching nature do it's thing! There are many different types of birds, fish, and turtles which you can spot even from the shoreline. The terrain is very flat which makes it perfect for your furry friends. Tried having a picnic here but was greeted by a dog every few minutes so don't recommend bringing food unless you are okay with being ambushed. Parking is the hard part with a very tiny lot. Come early or during non-peak hours (towards the evening/sunset or all day weekends). However, there is a small overflow parking on the outside of the park alongside the road. The park entrance is free and open to the public, and perfect if you are taking a casual trip around lake Austin. Overall wonderful natural park that's also perfect for dogs! Unfortunately his beautiful park has two major cons. 1) Water looks atrocious I didn't let my dog even get near it, so bring your own to drink. Was a bummer, still looking for a safe place for him to swim. 3) Unless you go during an off time of day, good luck parking. There's less than a dozen parking spots in the lot. What a fantastic dog park! Only gripe is the parking, I have never been able to go and wait less than 25-30 minutes in the line of cars. Super small lot, one in, one out basically. Once parked, you can either go left or right, both are great options since everything leads to the same place! A well manicured landscape surrounded by water on both sides, deep enough in that you don't really have to worry about your dog running back into the parking lot, or worse... all the way into any traffic or sorts. Plenty of doggie bags and trash bins throughout. Plenty of spots for your dog to jump in the water and play with some fellow dogs, dog owners are friendly as well, and easy going, all complimenting each others dog. Beautiful area for some picture taking, only issue is my dog needs a bath every time after visiting here, since he gets covered in mud afterwards from the water. I say thats a good sign, and he had a fun time! One of the few places where I feel 100% safe letting my dog roam around in sight and out of sight for brief periods of time, I now make this my regular weekend warrior dog trip for the little man. read more

I love taking my doggy here. It's such a nice way to give him off-leash reign over our exercise breaks. If they'd add more parking it'd be a 5-star place. Seriously, the parking is crazy. I've parked along the road before without trouble, but there are places that have no parking signs, so use caution. I've seen people waiting in line for a parking spot and still waiting when we finished our excursion. It's insane and definitely not for the faint of heart.. or the antsy. Once you arrive, you have a short walk to the place where most people hand out. It's a peninsula that is surrounded by the cool, lake water. I always see people swimming, but you're not supposed to. I let my dog jump in though. It's an advance swimming spot for sure though, so if you bring a dog that's uncomfortable around the water, you may want to get them a life jacket! read more

First visit with a pup, she was clearly not ready for all the freedom, but we enjoyed the visit nevertheless. I am not a fan of dog parks, but this one seemed different. We arrived around 7:30am on Saturday morning, and were able to park easily. Parking lot is for 20cars including handicapped - tiny!! But nice as it is not overcrowded with peeps and dogs when you get out for your walk. When we were leaving an hour later, it was about 7 car line waiting to park, mostly seemed to be people for photo sessions - maybe at least one dog per car requirement would be nice to keep this island just for pups fun. We saw 2-3 photo sessions going, at least one had artificial light with them - but did not notice anyone trying to keep their curious dogs away from them. There are enough signs to indicate that this park is a dog zone. Easy access to water, and could be fun for pups, but toxic algae signs where posted, so you have to be aware of that. Overall, gorgeous location and a very nice doggie park. read more

This place is unique and beautiful. Who knew such a gorgeous spot could be in downtown Austin? The main loop is just over a 1/3 of a mile. The dogs are off leash, the trees and roots are stunning aesthetically against the river, and everyone is very polite and clean with their dogs. I have been over a few dozen times. They only have 23 parking spots. Be prepared to wait for a spot between 20-40min. The only time I have found there isn't a line is on a weekday morning before 9am. You can drop in your kayak/sup here, no dog necessary to enjoy the area. Since this is one of the few off-leash parks the environment leans towards their play time. Don't go here if you can't play well with dogs. read more

Fantastic off leash place to take your dog!!! The trail is located alongside Lady Bird lake near where the dam separates Lake Austin. Dogs (and their owners) have the ability to walk along paths probably a couple miles in total which have varying side spots where the dogs can jump in the water. Dogs of all sizes are allowed. And obviously please don't bring your puppy if he's not keen on hanging with other dogs. The water is clean and not too deep for the pups to swim. Parking can be crazy, especially on the weekend because they only have about 20 parking spots and when full it becomes a one in one out situation. A little stressful for sure when your dog is chomping at the bit to get outside and play. Not enclosed, but still pretty safe for the puppies to run around freely and not be in danger. read more

One of my favorite places in Austin to take the pup. Lots of trees = shade, lots of water and lots of space to roam. Always clean and the people are extremely friendly! The only downfall? Parking absolutely sucks. ALL the time. There's maybe 10-15 spots and you have to wait in a line every single time to park. This dog park is a great alternative to the fenced in dog parks since Zilker is temporarily closed. My dog thoroughly enjoyed this park. It was also a good chance to work on her commands off leash without worrying about here running into traffic. There is a small parking lot at the entrance right off the road and we got the last spot so, I can see how parking would become a problem. Also, I wouldn't recommend parking on the road outside the park since they have no parking and towing signs. They also have the poop bag boxes in the parking lot and at the entrance of the trail but, I didn't see any beyond that so, make sure you grab bags if you need them on the way in. There are tons of pretty vantage points to stop and take in the nature scenery. It is very humid and stuffy at this park so, I would recommend going early in the morning or later in the evening. There were other dogs at the end of trail and they were all friendly as well as having friendly owners. There is ample places for your dog to get into the water if they like that sort of thing. There is some steps at the end where most of the dogs were hanging out and entering the water. The trail isn't that long but, it was enough to entertain my dog! This is probably a really pretty place to go come fall when the leaves are changing. The bugs started coming out so, I also recommend some bug spray. This is Luna and my new favorite place to get some running and playtime in. read more

My dog and I both love Red Bud Dog Park. I love it because I can let my dog off the leash and he is totally protected from traffic, after you park, Red bud goes into a point and is an island so you don't have to worry about through traffic or anything like that. My dog loves it because he gets to be a dog. He runs and gets in the water, sniffs butts as is the custom is doggy world. All of the dog owners I have met while taking my pooch there have been very friendly and chat about their dog-children. This is a great little oasis for your dog, even if it isn't close to your home and you have to get in the car, do it it will be worth it. Some things to think about: Parking- as mentioned in other reviews the parking can be limited, a good way to avoid this is to go earlier, it seems most people start to arrive after 11am on the weekends so if you go before that its not really an issue. During the week it is not super crowded so you should be okay. Bring poop bags- they have them available but on busy weekends they can run out and this park is way to small to leave poop lying around. read more

I had heard so many great things about Red Bud.. my husband and I couldn't wait to take our dog there. We tried 4 times, but each time we could not find parking. They have a very small parking lot and street parking is unsafe due to the narrow roads and high speed traffic. Finally, I went on a weekday. I was so excited to explore this park with my 1 year old very sweet labradoodle. First the "open field" is nothing but rocks and dirt. Second, there are several trails that lead down to the water, which I thought was pretty cool (it allowed us to explore), but when you get to the water, there is nothing to ease a dog in or out of the water. It is quite steep and deep with large slippery tree roots. The first water hole my dog went into she couldn't get out. She started whimpering, because she thought she was stuck and I started to get concerned. I was going to have to get in the cold somewhat gross water and try to hang onto a tree so my 4 months pregnant self wouldn't fall in. We were also greeted on the trail by another doodle, who was quite aggressive. The dog charged at my dog and wouldn't let up. It kept trying to bite on my dog and bully her around. My dog is quite passive, but can play with other dogs, however, my dog raced to get away from this dog. The other doodle started growling at my dog. The owner did nothing. Said nothing. I had to step in and intervene, while the dog owner just ignored his dog. There are dog bag stands everywhere and signs that state to clean up your dogs poop, because the poop can contaminate the water/wildlife. I actually carry my own bags, but I couldn't believe that people weren't cleaning up their dogs poop. I ended up stepping in a whole pile of it and realized it after I got in the car. Next there was a pack of large dogs who kept growling at one another and nearly getting in fights. Owners stood by and talked on their phones and chatted with their friends and only stepped in when it really started to get rowdy. I kept trying to figure out ways to get around the dogs, because I didn't want to put my dog in a compromising situation. There really isn't a whole lot of room to get away. Towards the end of the isle there are some stone steps leading down to the water. They are very steep and slippery. My dog lost her footing and fell into the water on her back. She had to clamor to get out of the water. When we got home she had large scratches on her stomach and a large wound on her leg. I would not recommend Red Bud. There are too many dogs for such a small place, owners are aloof and irresponsible, ease in and out of the water can be dangerous for dogs and you'll be lucky if you can find parking. read more

My pup, Brynlee, LOVES this park!! We have been about 3-4 times now and she gets so excited! There are several places to dip into the water, so it doesn't get too crowded down at the point. This is also a great spot for kayaking and such. I will say... we did have ONE encounter and it was on our first trip. A walked up and attacked brynlee on her face (cut under eye and punctured ear - both bleeding) the owner did NOT pull of his dog and proceeded to say "These things happen" and got testy with me. I was so shocked that I did not have a response, because it would not have been a good one! Overall great place, but watch out for ignorant pet owners! read more

Red Bud is our go to dog park where the doggies can also get there swim on. It's a nice refuge that seems like you a far away from it all despite it's small size. My only real complaint and the reason for the missing fifth star is the pervasive smell of poo that increases with the temperature. It has a U shaped trail that is lined on both sides by trees and nature bordered by water. I'm guessing the wooded area is where lies the poo problem. I know my dogs sometimes get ahead of me and disappear and I'm sure leave hidden, smelly presents for future visitors to enjoy. It's especially bad after a rain.
