chicken tenders

This was like thee dive bar! I came in for Tendie Tuesday (half off chicken tenders/fries) and I left full for the low price of $6 - honestly a steal. House margs are also $7 on Tuesdays! Come for the cheap food and drink, stay for the great bartenders who know everyone in the neighborhood and call you honey when you walk in. I didn't get a chance to check out the rooftop but it is open year round. I hear it's smoker friendly if that's your vibe. I will absolutely be back here for more specials and to check out trivia!

a can of beer on a table

We went upstairs to the covered and heated rooftop bar. There were tons of board games to choose from so we decided on trivial pursuit. The beer selection here is phenomenal and I tried my first Lagunitas hoppy refresher, a non alcoholic zero calorie sparkling water with the flavor of refreshing hops! It was the flavor of beer without the calories or the alcohol, brilliant! Our bartender was super fast and very friendly. A great spot to check out if you're in the neighborhood.

A perfect stop if you're looking for a divey spot with cheap beer and good vibes. They always have a $3.50 lucky pick beer special where they randomly give you one of their (presumably cheaper) beers--my friend and I got two Miller Lites, a Tecati, and a Narragansett tallboy. Reasonable (leaning cheap for DC) prices with a cool atmosphere and attentive service--I will definitely be back.

My first time coming here! As soon as you walk in, they ask you to use hand sanitizer before sitting down which I am a huge advocate of. There are heated outdoor tables as well. I went to the rooftop where there were heated lamps so it wasn't cold as well. The staff were SO nice and checked up on us very often. Seriously -- I've never met sweeter staff so please tip them well :) I ordered Mac n cheese bites with fries. I thought it was a bit ridiculous that they charged $.50 to old bay, but I paid it anyways. I also ordered cheese quesadillas. To be honest, the food I ordered was simply okay, nothing special. The drinks however were so cheap, especially for DC!! I would come again for the drinks and the experience, but order something else.

I love Red Derby for a night when I'm looking to have a few beers and catch up with friends. Their all-day lucky pick beer is a great deal - $3.50 for a surprise beer, which in my experience leads to getting a good variety of different kinds of beer. I went the other night and got a Narragansett and a Tecati, and before I've received Miller Lites, Budweiser, and even IPAs before. The service is quick, and you can either order at the bar or when the server comes to your table. The downstairs is pretty grungy but I love sitting on the rooftop, which has a great ambiance with colorful string lights. Definitely recommend for a cheap drinking night!

A classic uptown, divey NW DC bar in a local community on 14th Street. This bar is the quintessential landing spot for a craft beer, good eats, casual atmosphere and friendly staff. My first impression of this place is the imagery is reminiscent of a modern day Cheers bar (if you are familiar with the old television sitcom from the 80s). Nothing about this place is pretentious. The staff and the patrons are very down to Earth and the demographic resembles the diversity that you would otherwise expect from an evolving DC population. They supply a wide variety of national, imported and locally crafted canned beers. Their beer selection is actually quite impressive and they have virtually every kind of beer you'd desire from Americans, lagers, wheats, European ale, IPA and even ciders. Their food is also top tier bar food. I was impressed with how detail-oriented the kitchen cooks were with the burgers and fries. They were very much cooked to order and didn't lack any level of flavor or freshness. Overall a good experience. If you're looking for an off the beaten path, uptown bar give this place a try.

Few bars in DC come close to how perfect of a bar this is. I now live on H Street and I so miss my beloved Red Derby.

Although the space is on the smaller side, there was plenty of bar seating, an ample number of booths and the drink prices were a good deal. If I lived a little closer, I could see myself dropping by much more frequently. T he only downside that felt apparent to everyone I came here with, was the strong smell of fried fish. I personally wasn't too phased, assuming it as part of their menu. But the longer we settled in we realized it was coming in from an adjacent business which is incredible hard to control. With that being said, we smelled like fried fish when we got into my friends car and the smell followed us everywhere for the rest of the night. Like I said, I understand that's a hard thing to control but it may be something to be mindful of if you've got anywhere you need to go after. Overall though, totally in love with the laid back vibes here and would definitely return.

For a solid hour, you're like, "Wow... I am bougie like they say." Then the bartender calls out "Last call!" And as you take one final dramatic sip of your fancy drink, the lights come on like someone just hit the emergency button and whoa. Wait just one minute, I don't want to go home. That's when the migration begins. In Union Market, there's a place where all the local residents take their talents once the posh restaurants shut down and that place is Last Call Bar, the bar that welcomes you and your rapidly declining standards with open arms. And the food? Oh, the food is a spiritual journey. They kick things off with Jell‑O shots, which already tells you exactly what kind of night you're about to have. But it gets even better. They have food and the menu is full of options only a person who drank 5 cocktails could truly appreciate, the kind of late‑night masterpieces that would horrify you at noon but taste like gourmet brilliance after midnight. I'll take a hot dog please! The vibe is pure "we should've gone home but didn't" energy. The music is loud enough to drown out your responsibilities. The crowd is a mix of restaurant refugees, people who swore they were having an early night, and folks who are definitely lying to themselves about how early they have to wake up. It's a diverse crowd. More on the younger side but a sprinkle of adults that have kids in college or corporate jobs. The bartenders deserve awards for dealing with customers who insist they're "totally fine" while holding onto the bar like it's a support beam. And honestly? That's the magic. The best memories happen during the real happy hours of our days, bedtime hours, when you're either having way too much fun in the sheets or making the kind of decisions you'll laugh about (or regret) the next day. Last Call Bar isn't curated. It isn't polished. It isn't pretending. It's the place where your bougie persona quietly steps aside and you says, "Let's get a hot dog". If you want a place where the night gets a second wind and your dignity takes a short break, welcome home. Let's get into it! Drinks - Perfectly made! Way to go to the bartender! Hot dog- at this late hour it tasted like a filet mignon! Give me another! Eeeek! A watering hole - every one needs a hole that waters! Xo

I came here for a first date that kept going after the other place we went to nearby was closing up for the night. We ran into her friends she recommended we get these Jell-O shots which already was a plus for me considering that most bars don't do Jell-O shots! And what's even better is there's an option where you can add Pop Rocks into them! Never in my 30 years of life did I ever consider adding Pop Rocks into a Jell-O shot but wow! It was incredible! Service has a bartender or two behind working the counter. The drinks are really cheap which you can't say much for DC area bars. The food menu I wish was a bit more expansive but if you just come here for drinks the menu is solid and price competively

This place continues to be our family favorite, every time we have family from out of town we bring them here because everyone loves the food and the atmosphere. My African American military family arrived at 11:00 a.m. sharp on Father's Day. I mention "military family" because I want to paint an accurate picture: we weren't a loud or unruly group. We were five adults, five well-behaved children, and two infants looking to enjoy brunch together. The restaurant was completely empty. Not "a few open tables" empty--completely empty. No one was even sitting at the bar. When we told the hostess we didn't have a reservation, she went to get a manager. What struck me immediately was how flustered he became the moment he saw our group. He came out red-faced, visibly agitated, and immediately launched into how they were completely booked and there was "no way" he could seat a party of 12. We even asked if we could split into two groups of six and were met with the same response: impossible. We stood there looking at an entirely empty restaurant while being told there was absolutely no way we could be accommodated. The whole interaction was honestly bizarre. Confused, we simply said "okay" and started walking away. As we were already down the sidewalk, a hostess came after us and explained that we could sit on the patio, which was first-come, first-served. We could order through a QR code and have food brought to us. That was completely fine with us. In fact, with children and infants, the patio was arguably a better option anyway. The truth is, by that point we stayed more out of convenience than anything else. Getting five children and two infants back into three separate vehicles and finding another restaurant felt like more of a hassle than it was worth. Looking back, I wish we had simply left. Which raises the obvious question: if the patio was available all along, why wasn't that the manager's response from the beginning? Why did he act as though seating us was impossible instead of simply saying, "Our indoor dining is reserved, but you're welcome to sit outside"? I do not make accusations of racism lightly. However, after reflecting on the experience, I cannot escape the conclusion that race played a role in how my family was treated. The manager's reaction upon seeing our group, his immediate insistence that there was "no way" to seat us despite an empty restaurant, and the fact that available seating existed all along created an experience that felt unmistakably exclusionary. The interaction nagged at me throughout the meal, especially when my children and nieces and nephews started asking, "Why didn't the restaurant want us to eat here? The place is empty?" That's not a conversation I expected to have with children on Father's Day. When we left about 90 minutes later, both the dining room and patio were still far from full. I counted 8 open tables inside and 5 open tables on the patio at 12:30. I understand reservations. I've dined all over the world. But Moreland's is not a Michelin-starred restaurant with a months-long waitlist. It's a neighborhood pub--closer to an upscale Applebee's than fine dining. Yet somehow my family was made to feel unwelcome from the moment we walked through the door. After years of being a customer, that is deeply disappointing.
