No frills, dive New England/ Boston sports bar. They've got a good number of TVs primed to whatever New England / Boston game is playing. People there are often there for the game to cheer on their team. Bar service was quick, you are able to order food from outside and bring it in, and you get the sports fan atmosphere. It's worth a visit for a big Boston game. read more

My favorite bar to watch football, political events, or just want a good beer! The service is great and I love all of the outdoor spaces. One of the grossest establishments in the city. Me and hubby wanted to watch March Madness (go Green) and we've heard that Dirty Water was "the spot". Unfortunately, it smells like vomit, pee, and poop (all in one), and the crowd was all underage (a plus for hubby but he knows he can only look and not touch). I am a woman and the bouncer grabbed me when I tried to move out of the way for girls that were coming down the stairs. He assumed I was not paying cover, but either way, he grabbed me in a way he shouldn't have and I felt unsafe and grossed out. Then I got in and they were playing country music that sounded like it was proud of being on the wrong side of the civil war. All in all a horrible experience, I usually do not write reviews for places but this made me so angry and disgusted. Do not give this place your money. read more

Kenny is a great bartender! He gave us some insight on the bar and their upcoming events. There was a decent setup as well, with outside seating, a rooftop and indoor bar service. Without a doubt the worst bar I have ever walked into (and i have been to some rough areas of the world). We've been here twice, walked in, looked around a deserted bar and walked out. This time walking up the 3flights of stairs we had to step over human urine in two places. Given this appears to be a Boston sports bar, that makes sense (I lived in Boston for 20 years!). Both time we have been there (this time 9pm on a Friday night) the place was dead, this time there was a bartender and three people. No atmosphere, dirty, no effort put into decor. This bar and its owners are AMAZING! The atmosphere there last night was unreal. They hosted a conservative watch party and it was wall to wall people. Such a mixture of men, women, White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, and Middle Eastern. They served people excellently when there wasn't room to move. 10 stars!!!! read more

If you like a dive bar then Dirty Water is the place for you. Multiply that by 100 if you're a Boston or Tulane or UGA fan. On game days Dirty Water is like a little party for you and your fellow fans. The drinks are cheap - not sure you can find a better deal in DC than the $25 for 8-beer mega bucket. Was visiting DC for the first time from Boston. Stopped in to catch the pats game. Horrible season, great bar. The bartender was engaged with the patrons and enthusiastic about multiple games and teams that were playing at the time. I would def recommend any Bostonian or not to check this place out for a game. Can I give zero stars? Came in from out of town and was hoping for a cool sports bar atmosphere. Walk in and all the men are at the bar, all the ladies are outside at the bar. The rest of the tables were 100% empty. Weird. Obviously a Boston Sports bar. Cool. Was told "hey" as we sat at a table by a guy with a wet rag hanging out of his back pocket. THAT WAS IT. Ten minutes of waiting at a table for service. Nothing. Walked up to the bar with a card in hand and said hi. NOTHING. So basically if you don't want to be served try it. This is THE sports bar of sports bars in the H street area. The owner and staff are very personable and friendly and attentive. I came here as a college football watch bar with my friends and it's basically a frat party in a sanctioned bar if you go on a Saturday football game day. If that's not the environment you're looking for, be warned! There is also no food here, but you can order food from Ledo's through the bartenser/ bring your own takeout from places nearby. They have great weekend happy hour deals and you can buckets full of different drinks such as beer, rose, etc. My only complaint is that there are two bathrooms and so when the place is crowded, the line is too long and there's a pretty long wait which is frustrating. But other than that, can't complain about the venue! read more

This place is the closest thing you will find to It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia in real life. We first encountered "The Gang" early on Saturday morning at a different bar for 9am drinks. At 10am we saw them at a different bar. Then around noon, we made our way to Dirty Water and the gang had opened up their bar. They were upstairs cooking food in a crock pot on the bar counter and were already "having a good time". There were some ladies there, but we can't confirm the DENNIS system was in place. One of the gang was downstairs on the street letting passerbys know about the specials (there is no sign on the door, it is hard to find and it looks like a doorway to an apartment, not a bar...just look for the street specials sign and open the door and go up). Another of the gang was doing Charlie work and trying to figure out the TVs. The bartender lady was pouring drinks, but did not look like a bird. We went up and it was kind of a dive bar, but not really a dive bar. Very small, kind of feels like an attic. I thought it was neat and unique. There is also an outdoor patio as well and that was cool too because it was just like a deck. They had TVs, sports and specials. H street is pretty expensive, I'd suspect regulars might get some VIP treatment here. It was a neat spot. If we ever need to hold an intervention, a fake funeral or a kids beauty pageant. and we are on H Street, we will definitely return. read more

This place is great to watch football and get your fill of drinks. It has a nice setup with an indoor, patio and roof viewing areas to watch sports. I enjoyed my Sunday here, but I think there's some glaring issue with this place. Negatives: -Owner is clearly the biggest Boston fan out there, which is fine but others might be put off by him randomly blasting Irish fight songs after patriots scoring or making big plays. This didn't totally subtract from the place, but definitely is something to keep in mind if your a NY fan. If your team is playing the pats I definitely wouldn't go watch here, the environment will not be friendly. -The place literally serves food from the pizzeria next door with an upcharge. They never mentioned this when I ordered from the menu on the wall and I was surprised and offput when my hero arrived after an hour from right next door!! Do not order food here, it isn't bad but it's just a ripoff and you will feel deceived. I'd be fine if they mentioned this when I ordered, but they acted like "their kitchen" was just busy.... -Beer selection was very underwhelming, with only 3 drafts (2 of which are Bud variants). I'd stick to the cheap bud lite specials because nothing else here is worth the money charged Overall I can't say I wouldn't return, but I'm also pretty unimpressed overall. If you're a Boston transplant living in DC you'll love this place though. read more

Great casual sports bar. Space is a little tight but it has a "buddy's garage" feel to it that makes it feel roomier than it is. They will not make mocktails (and will flat out mock you for asking) which wasn't fun for a pregnant woman such as myself that wanted to enjoy a special beverage while hanging out with her friends. Service is attentive if your beverages are alcoholic. If you see the patrons playing with the iPod connected to the speaker system, run! There's nothing fancy about this place, but it's a great neighborhood bar. They only have drinks (no food), so they'll let you bring in food from wherever! A table near us had pizza, and we got some cheese fries from the place downstairs. There are lots of TVs so it's great for watching football. A fun spot! read more

My time at Dirty Water has truly been unforgettable. Between the games, drink specials, and bartenders this is the place you need to be for a good time. Service here is horrible! I work in the service industry and I can't believe that this place is still open. Bartender's ignore customers. I sat at the bar (there were only 6 people there) for 15 mins while the bartender talked to the customer about what city had the best food. Once I finally got a drink and finished it I had to wait another 10 mins before I was asked if I wanted another drink. Sat there with an empty glass for 10 mins and it was only 6 ppl in the bar. It's a Boston sports-based dive bar, which is exactly what I was looking for. I may have come at a bad time though. Half of the roof had a tarp over it and the bar and bathroom were freezing. It didn't appear the staff tried to make it any warmer with space heaters or anything. The two female bartenders spent most of the time sitting down, on their phones, even as the bar started to fill up. They have a small menu posted on a sign, but they don't actually serve food there. They order from a restaurant downstairs and bring it up in to-go containers and plastic bags (super wasteful). I don't know if the bartender heard "vodka with pickle juice" or was deciding to screw with us on purpose- but a vodka with pickle juice was an absolutely unwelcome surprise.
