Bagels and hot chocolate! Great way to start your day!

Had breakfast here the last two days. Servers were extremely friendly. We all had bagels and hot chocolate as we watched the crowd wander by. Bagels were delicious, service was fast and the price was right. Loved it enough to do it both mornings of our trip to Ottawa.

Great coffee. Good service. Baked goods were nice. Great location and would stop back for the coffee.

July 25, 2021: This is my favourite place to sit in the summer and people watch. On this visit, I got the salmon and cream cheese sandwich. It's delicious. They have lots of other sandwiches too. And sometimes I get the smoothies. There are electric outlets so I can charge my phone. It's the perfect summer location. And I'm sure it's nice in the winter too.

This place is the best to have your breakfast or just sit tight with your loved ones or folks to enjoy the byward market vibe and chat on a pleasant day. The team here is cordial and have lots of food options. A bit pricy but worth every penny since the location is prime.

It's in a converted old house, so there are so many rooms and nooks and crannies, lol. They have a small patio out front and a larger patio on the side. I imagine people like Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell in their early years hanging out in places like the Art House, to give you an idea of the ambiance ;) I grabbed a breakfast sandwich and a lunch wrap to go. The Southwest Chicken Wrap ($9.85) was really tasty. It had pieces of chicken, rice, black beans, cheese, and corn (which I picked out, lol). It had a bit of a spicy kick, but I'd still consider it mild (or at most on the milder side of medium). The breakfast sandwich was an English muffin, cheese, egg and bacon. I like that it was real cheese and not like a processed Kraft Singles kind of cheese. Very tasty. Staff are super chill and friendly. I'll need to come back sometime to hang out. Street parking only.

I found the decaf Americano had too sour an aftertaste for me, but the orange chocolate chip cookie was good. The Long Version: I've heard of the Ottawa Bike Cafe and have been meaning to try it for some time now and have finally gotten around to it. My husband and I were on one of our "food and drink weekend adventures" where we go to a bunch of places that are new-to-us and get a little something to share at each place. Like a food crawl, lol. Anyway the Ottawa Bike Cafe was one of our stops. We got a medium decaf Americano ($3.70) and an Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie ($4). My husband liked the coffee and he rated it 4/5. He's more of a coffee connoisseur than I am, so his assessment on coffee is likely more trustworthy than mine, lol. I found the coffee bitter with too much of a sour aftertaste, but I'm one of those people who like flavoured syrup in my coffee (whereas my husband thinks flavoured coffee is gross and drinks his coffee black. We got the coffee black by the way). I enjoyed the Orange Chocolate Chip Cookie, although I only had a few small bites as the hubby ate most of it, haha. I liked that the orange flavour was noticeable. It was a nice twist on the traditional chocolate chip cookie. It was a bit too buttery for my preference and a tad too crumbly, but otherwise a pretty good cookie. Service was pleasant. The place was packed. Decor and ambiance I would describe as hipster cool. If you like popular places that are bustling, this is the place to be. I personally like quieter places with fewer people (although sadly this usually means that places I like don't always stick around). Our visit was in March. I imagine that this place is even busier in the summer. It's on the stretch of Sparks Street that is pedestrian only, so great for people watching if you sit by the window or on the patio during the warmer months when they have outdoor seating. Street parking only. Review #54 (2026)

The contrastive intensity of flavors from the rich bluebbery to the earthy matcha works incredibly well as neither element was watered down and held its own. Very impressive drink, would recommend.
