I had scones at the Sconewitch for the first time many years ago when they were on Albert St. I recalled that they were good. Although I don't dislike them, I don't love scones, so I don't have them often, but I remembered that the ones at the Sconewitch were better than most. So when some friends wanted to meet there for tea and scones, I was game. This location on Beechwood is on the ground floor of a retirement residence, but it has its own entrance (in addition to the entrance from the retirement residence). Inside it looks like a hip café. There's modern art on the walls, they sell jams by the jar, and also greeting cards (!). I was going to get a cheddar scone, but then I noticed they had gluten-free scones. I wanted to see if it was possible to have a tasty fluffy gluten-free scone. There are only 2 flavours of gluten-free scones, 1 savoury and 1 sweet. I got the savoury one, which was jalepeno and green onion flavoured ($2.60). My scone was not fluffy, it was rather flat and dense. However, it did taste good. It was adequately flakey and had a nice flavour to it. It just wasn't as attractive looking as my friends' scones (vanilla cream scone, and currant ginger scone) which were huge and fluffy. I also got a pot of Ginger Chai tea. It was very mild in flavour and not all that potent even after letting it steep for a while. Staff were nice. You pay at the cash register and they give you a number on a stand that you place at your table. Then they bring you your food when it's ready. We hung out and chatted for 2 hours and didn't feel pressured to leave. Mind you, it wasn't super busy and there were a lot of empty tables. Street parking only.

    Lemon poppyseed scone

I visited on a Friday morning and there was no wait. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, I wasn't able to dine in. I ordered a lemon poppyseed scone and a tea latte. My partner ordered a tuna melt and a hot chocolate. Our orders were taken promptly and we didnt need to wait long. I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. The lemon poppyseed scone was sweet but it wasn't toasted. The menu shown on yelp is very different than the menu in the store. There aren't any breakfast options such as eggwitch or scrambled eggs. There also wasn't any mealwitches or dessert options. The menu was pretty minimal when I visited. Overall, I'm glad I visited but I wouldn't visit again. It's nothing special.

The crowd at the Beechwood Scone Witch is different than the one downtown. One factor is that this Scone Witch is in the same building as a retirement home! I think this is great so that the residents have a coffee shop that they can access without having to leave the building and somewhere to meet their friends and have some fresh old-style baked scones. The scones here are delicious and I especially enjoy when they have seasonal-type specials, such as pumpkin! The scone sandwiches are delicious, I have had both the tuna and the goats cheese one and it would be hard to decide which is my favorite. Don't be fooled by their size, you will be full when you are finished! Brunch is served at the location on Beechwood from 8 to 3 on weekends. The service is friendly, the coffee is good and the atmosphere is relaxed: a great place to spend a winter afternoon reading.

Great place for breakfast/brunch or a light snack. I love it when when I order a scone and they are crunchy on the outside and still warm on the inside. It's like going to the bakery and getting bread fresh out of the oven. I have a great affection for place. Not only are the scones amazing. They have a variety of scones to choose from. These little bad boys are cooked in house and made fresh throught the day. Sometimes some of the staff is a little stuck up and semi rude and so as you can imagine it does remove from the experience a little. I had times where I would ask questions about the menu and I was responded in a semi short way. Personally it does not bother me as much considering that it had been consistent [not that that makes it right.] But it has happened so much that it's just makes you say "whatever". Once I did ask to change x toping for another item and had the staff member give me some attitude for wanting to change something. I get it sometimes you can't make substitutions but if that's the case clearly state it or maybe say it in a polite way. It's fine if you can't make the change but no need for the attitude mannnnn! It might have also been that they were having a bad Day or were in a bad mood. Everyone has one of those right!? But this won't deter me from coming back. SCONES FO LIFE!

I go here with my friend to catch up as often as I can. Its never too busy, which is nice even though there is plenty of seating. You order, and they usually bring it to your table...kind of like a restaurant, but a coffee shop atmosphere, in that sense. The employees are mostly students when I'm there, although I'm pretty sure Ive seen the "Witch" herself lol. In total, Ive tried the vanilla cream and ginger currant scones...yum! Very decent size for $1.90 (could change, don't quote me). The scones I've had at other places are no where near as moist. You really can taste the ingredients..it was lightly vanilla and definitely didn't need butter. The ginger currant scone isn't too strong, but in no means bland. I was hesitant because I've never tried that combination, but the currants were a nice burst of flavor here and there. The hot chocolate is decadent and creamy and relatively priced for a regular sized mug. Interestingly, the peppermint tea Ive had there comes loose leaf in a bag ...sleeve...thing. Just hanging out of the pot. Not a crazy difference from a regular bag, but still a nice little twist. For roughly the price of a Starbucks Peppermint Mocha, you can get a scone and tea in a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere with floor to ceiling windows to people watch in the heart of beechwood.

First time here, came on a recommendation. Saturday breakfast. Prices are astronomical. Added to the expectations, let me tell you! Customers order and pay at counter, the food is brought to your table. They have a wide range of coffee tea and scones. The breakfast menu is limited. The food: mushrooms ragu on scrambled eggs. FABULOUS. Eggs not dried up and hard.. Ragu best I ever had. Fruit that came with it... Looks like it was in the dumpster for a few warm days. Scone...large, and merely okay tasting. Jams were good. My biggest issue were the tables. They are about 20-24 inches and round. So three people cannot sit and eat and have tea comfortably. We had to line our tea up on the windowsills. The plates dangled off the edges. The plates should be smaller or a uniform shape so would fit better. The tables should be bigger. SERIOUSLY. Other issues: wait staff rather snotty and interacted with all customers as little as possible. Crappy service. I'd keep the cook and get new staff. This place probably appeals to hipsters and from what we saw..yoga moms with babies... The bill was staggering for what you got. The atmosphere is cafeteria style and I think the whole deal is far overrated.

I came here after visiting a friend's place in the area. I knew there was a sconewitch blocks from me and had to go seek this out after hearing so many great word-of-mouth reviews from friends. I found it and grabbed a cold brew coffee and the pesto BLT sandwich. The prices werent cheap, but definitely reasonable for the quality of the food. I took my food to go as a snack on a walk down the canal. Overall really great sandwich and would easily find myself here again. The cold brew was also delicious but again, that sandwich.

It's always been a special morning when we got Broadway for breakfast. They're a similar restaurant to Zak's Diner; with great food and their signature Homefries (that could sometimes use a bit more seasoning). You can get their Homefries anytime, even after breakfast, but their quality isn't as good as fresh in the morning. On top of just the food, the have amazing service. The staff is always happy for a quick chat or there for a good recommendation. In terms of speed, it depends on when you come, but provided you know what you want, it can be as little as 5 minutes (the time it'd take to drive to the store). Now to the Ambiance. The place is inspired by NYC's Broadway (specifically their Musicals) so the restaurant's walls are decorated accordingly. Overall, this is one of my favourite restaurants in all of Ottawa, and probably my favourite one for eating breakfast. My only qualm is asking that the Homefries receive more seasoning, but that is something so minor that it shouldn't result in the loss of a star from my review, and similarly it only really happens when I order takeout. Edit: I forgot to mention that from what I've seen, the owners are great people. Some of their staff have worked for over 10 years (some over 20), and they still have good things to say of their bosses (the staff, I mean), which is not something you tend to see. Also, this place is locally owned and operated.

I went pretty early both times and I was the first or second table there. I ordered the Trio Sante (a combination of yogurt, fresh fruit, and house-made granola) on my first visit and the ARC French Toast on my second. Both were excellent - I even dreamt about the french toast for awhile after =P There was just something about the contrast between the soft, rich, custard-like interior and the crunchy, oat-encrusted exterior in combination with a delicate spice, warm maple syrup, and tangy citrus butter... yum. To drink, I tried the drip coffee and a latte - both were average. The decor is modern and clean lines, with some elements from nature. It's bright and sunlight streams in from the windows. Basically, a great setting for a relaxing breakfast. Keeping in mind that both times I was one of only a few people there, service was appropriately attentive - i.e., there when it was necessary and not over bearing. Prices were on the high side, but probably on par with what would be expected in a hotel restaurant. I would come here again if I were staying at the hotel but, truth be told, there are other breakfast/brunch places in Ottawa that are higher on my list of places to go.
