Dr. Gifford is an outstanding optometrist. I came to his office after struggling with two prescriptions issued by my health care provider. Over the course of a month, both prescriptions caused great discomfort and blurred vision, and I was reluctant to go back to the same provider. I looked online and saw the reviews for Red Eye. My exam with Dr. Gifford was very professional and thorough. He is highly skilled and personable with his explanations. I also appreciate his methodical style. He quickly honed in the prescription I really needed. I picked up my glasses from the lab today, and I can already tell that the prescription is just what I need. I will return for all future appointments, and will also sign my wife and son up for his office. I will also recommend him to my colleagues. The service he provided was some of the best among all the health care providers I have visited over the years. I will add that his office is in a good location. These guys are great! Dr. Kohn is always honest, direct and very thorough, and the ladies up front were very helpful as well. I had brought in a pair of glasses that were broken, and they were able to fix them, even though I was sure that they were a lost cause. What can I say about this place?! They are beyond amazing! Super friendly staff, Dr. Kohn is awesome. They really care about their patients here and making sure their eyes are perfect! I have had an issue with one of my eyes for about a week and a half now and it seems to be getting better with their help. I may have had to go to the eye doc 4 days straight and then every few days after that, but I don't mind they are absolutely the best and truly just worried about my eye getting better! I have had all the eye docs in that office check out my eye and they all have been beyond outstanding...I don't know what I will do when I don't get to see them every other day! 100% best eye docs I've ever been too! read more

Best optometrist I've gone to and I've been blind as a bat for twenty years. The staff is courteous, Dr. Gifford is thorough and uses state of the art tech and the selection of frames is awesome. Been seeing Dr. Kohn the last couple years, prior to that Dr. Gifford. Luckily only ever had to go for standard exam, no major eyeball issues, so can only speak to that (i.e. have never had a "procedure") - but the exams are fine, docs are nice, thorough, and personable. Since they've been at the new location, the appointments I've had usually start fairly promptly at the scheduled time. Saturday office hours - you have to book a few weeks in advance, but given I only go once a year this is not a big deal at all, and just having the option is awesome, so I don't have to take off work. It's easy to make an appointment (a person picks up when you call, no irritating robot menu to navigate), and staff are friendly. Since I have vision insurance, prices are reasonable. Not sure how it would be without. I'm just glad I found a decent place that takes my insurance (Eye Med - when I first got it, not a lot of real practices accepted it) so I don't have to go to one of the mall-type places. In the event I ever have an actual eye problem other than being nearsighted, it's good to know I have an actual doctor I can call, who is likely to be there for longer than 6 months! If you have insurance, getting a pair of glasses isn't too much of a pocket hit. Mine ended up about $100 out of pocket. Something I really like is that all the frames have a color-coded sticker corresponding to price, so you can limit your browsing to just the price range you're comfortable with (instead of falling in love with a $400 frame that your insurance doesn't cover!). If I didn't have insurance I'd probably look into some of the online places, but since with insurance it ends up being about the same cost, plus I get the convenience of immediate in store try-on + no quality concerns + no shipping stuff back and forth, getting them here is less hassle. They could do with a slightly larger selection of lower-end (i.e. fully covered by my insurance!) frames, but even so it's not bad - always found one that's decent. As far as style, they lean toward trendy/hipster but do have some more traditional styles too. read more

I've been going here for almost 10 years even though I moved out of the neighborhood 8 years ago! Dr. Gifford is great and is always very thorough and spends a lot of time with you. He seems like a genuinely nice guy and it shows in his work. I haven't seen Dr. Kohn as much, but he is also thorough and friendly. They are prompt and I've never had to wait. Their staff is nice and able to explain insurance and costs. They are very upfront with the costs of glasses, lenses, etc. A couple of years ago I woke up with a lot of pain in my eye and they squeezed me in on a busy Saturday. It turned out to be an ongoing problem with my cornea and they recommended I see a specialist who was able to diagnose the problem. I love this place and continue to have my annual exam here even though it is a hike from my current neighborhood because I am always pleased with their services. Dr. Gifford and his team at Red Eye have been my go-to for eye care for years, and will continue to be. Whether you need an eye exam, new contacts (I somehow always wait until the last minute to reorder and the team here always speedily helps me out) or an opinion on an eye irritation, I would strongly recommend coming here. The staff does a great job of working with various insurance plans--I've had a few different ones in my years coming here--to make sure your benefits are optimized. The selection of glasses is great without being overwhelming, and I've had good luck asking the staff for help in picking out a good pair. My dad has too, finally trading in his decades-old Harry Caray look for something more modern. Beyond all this, Dr. G is an amazing guy and coming to see him is a treat. My parents come here, my husband comes here, my bambino will eventually come here, and you should too. read more

An excellent practice! I have known Dr. Kohn and the staff at Red Eye for over a year now. Out of full disclosure, I do work with Red Eye as one of their suppliers, but speaking as a professional, I have seen A LOT of optometrists in my career (hundreds, bordering on thousands actually), so I can definitely tell the difference between a great practice and those that are not up to par. The doctors and staff here really put their patients first and are always kind and willing to work with you. They are very easy to get ahold of if you have questions. I often talk to Rachel, and she is always wonderful - helpful, knowledgeable and overall just on top of things. Love it! :) Dr. Kohn is also great. He is one of those doctors that is always thinking about the welfare of his patients. And, I swear, I don't think I have ever seen him have a bad day! I also love the design of the office. To me, being willing to put the extra effort in with the little things says a lot about someone's professionalism. I highly, highly recommend this practice. There are some practices I walk into because I am a professional, but on the days when I see Red Eye, it is a treat! You are in great hands at Red Eye. Go see them!
