I've been going to Dr. Gifford for annual eye exams for several years, and have been very satisfied with my visits. Appreciate that he will explain each step of the exam and is patient with my eye drop aversion squirming! I have received great service from all of the staff here. I like that they don't pressure you into buying, but are helpful with any questions you may have while browsing their selection of frames and sunglasses. Never had an issue scheduling an appointment or had a long wait. In addition to regular annual exams I've been happy with service provided for: - Eye infection,were able to see me the same day on short notice to get prescription eyedrops. - Brought in my own frames and purchased lenses from Red Eye, and had the same lenses put in identical replacement frames for no charge about 2 years later when I broke my glasses. - Purchased frames with lenses very recently. Great fit and service provided with adjustments and they encourage you to stop by anytime if the fit seems off at all. I don't have optical insurance but they are very fair on pricing for the care and service received. read more

This was our first visit to the new location.This is a great new location and the same great customer service we have always received at Red Eye.Dr Kohn is just a tremendous ,friendly professional to work with and the rest of the staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. A wonderful experience! I was nervous because I haven't been to the eye doctor's in years and this was my first time going as an adult (no parent to help me!) but the staff was so kind and helpful. The office is absolutely beautiful and so comfortable, and the selection of glasses was solid. They have a clear, easy pricing system that was up-front, which I greatly appreciated as I have no vision insurance. They explained all the charges to me clearly, let me try on literally all the frames in my price range, and were kind and accommodating the whole time. I just went here for the first time last week and was blown away by the service that I received. It was super easy to make an appointment and they got me in right away. There wasn't a long wait before seeing the doctor. She was professional and kind, walking me through everything and making sure to take the time to address all of my questions. I am notoriously horrible with choices so I was overwhelmed by the amount of options that they had for frames. Luckily, the staff there took an extraordinary amount of time to walk through the store with me and help me to pick out a pair that fit perfectly and look great. Staff is super friendly and pay attention to detail. I've been seeing Dr. Gifford for a few years now. It started with eye exams and fantastic glasses. Great frame options and welcomed help from staff picking out new styles! Trust them with your face/frames; they won't steer you wrong. With all the outdoor activity I do, glasses couldn't keep up with my life style. I finally made the big move to LASIK/prk. I was referred to a fantastic physician. I am happy to report surgery was successful! I still continue to have regular eye exams and all my many questions answered by the staff at Red Eye. read more

I just moved to Chicago and needed a new Optometrist. I wanted a professional experience with a modern atmosphere and that is exactly what I got with Red Eye! Dr. Kohn was very genuine and took the time to explain every step in the exam, and all of his findings afterwords. He was very down to earth, which was refreshing for a doctor's visit, and made me feel very comfortable. They have a wide variety of frames both classic and modern- all neatly organized and labeled with price stickers. There were two women at the front desk that helped me pick mine out. They were honest (much appreciated) and gave me a few recommendations, that I may not have otherwise tried on. I spent quite a bit of time looking for the perfect pair, and they did not make me feel rushed one bit, they actually encouraged me to take my time, this too was refreshing. After I decided on a pair, one of the ladies reviewed my insurance coverage and explained in depth what I could use it towards, as I was getting both glasses and contacts. Red Eye, and Dr. Kohn, in particular are terrific. My wife, I and my two sons have been going here for several years now and have always had wonderful service. They're prompt, the facility is impeccable, and they're all very nice. Their staff is also particularly good at helping you figure out your options per your insurance when it comes to buying glasses. I decided to review them again because of a recent experience. I had an eye injury and came in w/ no appointment on a Saturday morning right when they opened. Dr. Kohn took me in immediately and took excellent care of me. When he thought he saw that I could have some possible retina damage beyond the surface cornea scratch he was able to treat, he personally called and arranged for me to get in w/ a Retina specialist that day. He called back to check up on me after and showed genuine concern for my well being. When I went back in for my follow up, weeks later, he didn't even charge me for the first visit. These guys are like the doctors of "the old days" who actually care about their patients and you're not just a number to them. read more

This place is phenomenal! There was no waiting, and Dr. Kohn actually had to wait on me to complete the paperwork (which is on an iPad and super easy!). The location is immaculately clean and welcoming. The front desk staff were so friendly and helpful with my selection of frames. Dr. Kohn walked me through all of the steps, explaining thoroughly about the exam along the way. It was very appreciated as I don't always know what the parts of exams are for. They also keep your imaging so they can compare it at your next visit. They have a large selection of frames, and at a reasonable price- especially when using insurance. I love wearing glasses, but never really enjoyed going to the eye doctor before I found Red Eye. Dr. Kohn's genuine enthusiasm for eye health makes it truly fun, though. I was walking down Damen with my son in his stroller when the wind kicked up and a piece of gravel got stuck in my eye. I was in a ton of pain and trying to blink it out with no success. A lady from the store actually came outside and asked if I wanted to use eye rinse. She directed me to the bathroom and explained where the drops to clean my eyes were. Once I finally had cleaned my eyes, she made a point to hold the door open for my stroller even though it seemed pretty busy in there. I don't wear glasses but if anyone I know needs them I'm going to send them to Red Eye. read more

I went to emergency for my eye was not a good experience or helpful with my scratched cornea. Called the office and Dr. Gifford called me back right away and saw me same day. I been a customer since 2009. I go back every year, even when I lived out of town in Texas, I got my yearly eye exam when I visited my family in Chicago. Always great service and care. Both Matt and Andrew are very thorough and explain the details of my eye health. The contacts prescription is always accurate-I never had a problem. I recently went to Red Eye for an eye test and new prescriptions. Dr. Gifford did a great job. I am a senior citizen and Dr. Gifford does a good job with geriatric patience like myself. Dr. Gifford fitted me with the latest no line multi optical lenses that are amazing. They are thin, HD and the progression of vision takes me back to when I was wearing single vision glasses at 16! I also received new B&L hard contact lenses that working very well. I am a veteran of Dr. Gifford and he really does a super job. read more
