This was my first visit to Red Hog and I was so impressed, delighted, and intrigued. Can't wait to return SOON. The event was for a Kermit Lynch paired wine dinner in partnership with the neighboring Wine Rack business. All of the food items were fresh, flavorful, and creative. Our first course was a Red Hog pâté on house made brioche, second course field greens with many locally sourced ingredients, third course Fischer Farms pork product, and finally a cheese course with honeycomb that capped off a stellar dining experience. Service was excellent and attentive without being intrusive. Very friendly and personable, which was also refreshing. We were also appreciative that the wine reps and managers stopped by each table briefly to answer any questions and provide further info. Restaurant seating includes indoor and outdoor covered and uncovered spaces. Communal tables and individual seating at tables or counter height options, as well as bar seating overlooking the open kitchen concept. The chefs and staff appeared to be a well oiled machine and produce quite a demonstration while in the trenches. Noise level can be moderately high when restaurant is at capacity with happy diners. Location has free street parking at corner of Frank and Frankfort Avenue, as well as free parking in the lot located behind and to the side of the business. There is also the butcher shop attached to the restaurant, but it was closed during our visit. Looking forward to returning to check this out in the future as well and hopeful to replicate some special dishes at home. Finally, this place smells GREAT! After all the hype I decided to try Red Hog for lunch on a Saturday afternoon It was pretty busy for lunch but we were seated inside. Lunch menu was a little pricey but we figured this meat must be amazing to have these prices. First the cocktails. Pricey at $15 a pop. We tried two that sounded pretty different the Spanish Pipe Dream and bourbon based Velvet Goldmine and they were just ok and kind of tasted way too similar. These were supposedly on the sweeter side but I'd give them a 6/10. We tried the $17 dry aged burger with an additional $2 charge for fries and it was pretty good but after all the hype it similar to all smash burgers. The dry age flavor really wasnt there. Bun was standard brioche type, not toasted. Good burger but nothing special though. I did enjoy the sauce and toppings giving. It a unique sweet flavor. 6/10 but just go to Toastys for a similar cheaper one with way better fries. The fries were disappointing. Soggy, floppy, zero seasoning and salt on the. Tasted like the oil they were fried in and that's it. Not the best. 5/10 Turkey club. 8/10. $18 with no sides. The bread and sauce really do 99% of the work because taste wise the turkey was not discernable from supermarket deli turkey. The bread is a delicious oven baked pizza crust folded over and the sauce combo tastes like a Cesar salad. I highly recommend this , it's a simple but amazing sandwich, but it at this price point for salad and turkey on pizza crust it really should have a side. Service was 2/10, non existant. Took 1.5 hours to get out of there because of how it took 20 minutes to order and another 20 just to get our drinks, and our server was busy with tables outside so we didn't see her until we were asking for our checks. Overall the food was good, drinks just ok, but the hype this place gets , at least for lunch, along with the service is grounds for dissapointment. read more

Red Hog has a fabulous happy hour from 3-5 PM and we finally got to stop by a bit before it ended. First, the atmosphere when you arrive is like a warm hug. There's an open fire in the kitchen for pizzas and it smells wonderful. Staff were incredibly friendly. We were sat at a high top, sharing the other side with another party - a common occurrence. There is a special happy hour menu - including bites, wine and cocktails. We opted for a bottle of prosecco and were pleasantly surprised a side of fries comes with each bottle during happy hour - what?!! My absolute favorite! We also ordered the charcuterie plate - which includes chefs picks of cheese and 3 meats. The fries were freshly cut with two dipping sauces, ketchup and a curry mayo. Fries were good but a little floppy and not super crispy but we still enjoyed. The charcuterie plate includes salami, prosciutto, and a liver pate with bacon (the last was not super popular with us). The cheeses included a soft maybe blue cheese, cheddar and white cheese. There were also crackers, nuts, jam, olives on the board. Overall it was a good happy hour and we'll be back!! read more

I stopped in for dinner on a Saturday and I was able to snag a spot at the bar. They don't have too many bar seats but it looked like the indoor and outdoor eating spaces were about equal in size. I'd probably try to get a reservation if you're going at a busier time. Anywho I ordered one of the cocktail specials for the night and it was light and refreshing. For dinner I ordered a steak with the potatoes and it was cooked perfectly. The steak had great flavor; there was a bit of cowboy butter on top that I'd probably ask for more next time but the steak didn't need it. Potatoes were slightly crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. 10/10 meal. Restaurant staff members were all very pleasant and responsive and seemed to truly enjoy working there which is always nice to see. Cool spot. read more

Can't believe it took this long to put this gem into words, but after visiting more times than I can count, Red Hog has firmly cemented itself as one of our absolute favorites in Louisville. There isn't a bad seat in the house or the butcher shop. Every corner has its own character, as unique and thoughtful as the food coming out of the kitchen. The open cooking in the shared space adds a warmth that makes it feel like dinner and a show, without the performance. The menu rotates with the seasons, but the crowd favorites never disappear. And for good reason. The burger is a legitimate contender for best in Louisville, no small feat in a city with serious competition. White cheddar, Ross Sauce, bacon jam, fried shallots, pickles, and Red Hog bacon, served with hand-cut fries and a curry aioli that deserves its own review. Unreal. Always love a trip to Red Hog. One of my faves in town. Tried lunch for the first time today. We split a Caesar salad, which is also a dinner item. It's a fantastic salad - full of flavor including herbs from their garden, lots of cheese, and anchovies. Also split the smash burger for lunch, which was hefty. This isn't a whimpy, limp burger, but crispy, hot, and a great compliment to one of their tasty salads. The server we had today was so kind and attentive. HOLY MOLY. My friend's parents had this restaurant on "the list" for Louisville so we figured we'd check it out. Such a good vibe when you walk in - smells like the pizza oven and tasty food, has a cool covered outdoor patio, indoor seating, everyone happy and smiling and stuffing their faces. We sat outside and had a cocktail, appetizer, and some amazing dishes. The pimento cheese dip was different and really tasty. The wedge was banging and HUGE. You get the flavor of poblanos with the creaminess of avocado! I would recommend reservations. We had a Saturday night reservation and had never been to the Red Hog before. When we arrived we were seated quickly and greeted quickly by our waitress. We were sat next to the garage door which had a fair amount of cold air coming in. The place isn't very big on the inside and I had to take my coat and hang it on the wall just inside the entrance. I had the chicken which was good and my wife had the Denver steak. The chicken was good but the steak was a bit chewy. We also ordered the cabbage and beets, my wife enjoyed them both but I was more of a cabbage fan. I would eat here again but wouldn't necessarily make it a priority to get back. read more

One of my favorite, go to restaurants for consistently great food and service. Plus they take reservations. Something to be said about reservations at a restaurant, regardless of the price point. Their expanded outdoor seating area, which is heated, making winter dining warmer!!! We had lunch instead of the normal dinner experience. Started with cesar salad with anchovies on top. My husband and I came to try Redhog for date night after hearing positive things. We sat outside, which was a cute little dining area. I'd highly recommend reservations as it is a small, yet cute place. We started with the buttermilk brioche appetizer and it was my favorite part of the meal, SO good! Red Hog is the perfect elevated casual restaurant. You can roll up in a dress and heels or dirty overalls and feel right at home, and I love that. The food is incredible. It's so obviously fresh, simple but creative in their presentation. Indoor seating is comfy even with the zillion degree wood fired oven right in the dining space. This was our first time eating at the restaurant but have frequented the butcher shop previously - also huge fans. Wow where do I even begin? Perhaps by saying: Thank you! This year my husband and I decided to celebrate Thanksgiving by ourselves. It was the first time we decided to do this and we were very excited for the peace and quiet. I figured there was no point in cooking an entire feast for just the two of us (and my very picky four year old child) so I decided to order the "Thanksgiving Dinner For Two" from Red Hog. The reheating instructions were precise and easy to understand. Little did I know that what we were preparing would end up being the most scrumptious Thanksgiving meal we had ever tasted. I am SO glad we came here for dinner. I was eating breakfast at another place and this guy started talking to me and recommended Red Hog. He was super interesting giving me back stories on various restaurants and told me I must come here for dinner. So glad we did. Our server Kyle was fantastic. So knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. Service was top notch! The menu is an eclectic mix of flavors focused on featuring the best of local produce. We were told that everything sourced was within 100 miles, and the quality absolutely shows! My friend ordered a cocktail, and I, a mocktail (Blueberry Basil Shrub). My friend enjoy her drink and so did I. The shrub was so wonderfully tart that it opened up my palate for the array of dishes to come. The Red Beet Dip was a perfect start. Coupled with feta, sumac, tahini, cardamom, among others, the dip itself was a burst of flavors in my mouth. Paired with the soft, pillowy bread, it was so addicting we had to order extra bread! Next, Vietnamese Sausage! The sausage itself definitely had Vietnamese flavors. While subtle, I could taste all the herbs in every bite. The salad that the sausage sits atop was very refreshing though threw me off a little with its light "creamy" dressing. Never had an Asian flavored salad dressed this way --- but first time for everything, and it was very good. Chorizo Stuffed Calamari -- baby calamari stuffed with chorizo and bathed in the most delicious tomato harissa sauce. Oh geez, this was so good! The bread that accompanies (from Blue Dog Bakery) is outstanding. Slightly charred and just super flavorful. Wood Roasted Squash was right to arrive last as it was my dessert. Delicata squash topped with feta, pumpkin seeds, crispy sage, in maple ancho chile sauce. OMG, so decadent. This was such a fabulous meal, made me so very happy!! read more

Amazing dinner at Red Hog. Our first time there. Drinks were on point, food was amazing with bursting flavor and people were over the top friendly. The whipped feta with bread was simply amazing for an appetizer. All the appetizers sounded amazing but the drizzled chili sauce on top and fresh herbs and it was paired perfectly with the bread that was cooked in the pizza oven as we sat and watched. I had the burger and my wife had the pizza and both were right on point. Dessert was chocolate basque cheesecake. Simply one of the best meals we've had in a long time. Service was quick and friendly, food was flavorful and well prepared, and honestly they do the best they can with a smaller inside space and hot outdoors. We made a reservation for a high top, however, the hostess tried to seat us at a table where literally a portion of it juts into the kitchen. She seemed annoyed when we refused the table. We ended up sitting in the butcher shop next to a window of raw meat. Probably best to dine-in when outdoor seating is open and space is more plentiful. Red Hog was one of the restaurants mentioned, so I steered myself there on a Saturday afternoon and had a lovely time. I didn't make a reservation, and sat outside to enjoy the weather. The only thing I tried was the burger and fries, and it did not disappoint at all. I have to say it was one of the best meals I had in that area, and it wasn't expensive.
