My husband and I--along with our adult children, spouses, and grandchildren (15 of us)--spent the last week of July at Red Horse Mountain Ranch. It was INCREDIBLE. Three weeks later, I am still processing the experience, which was unlike any other vacation we've ever been on (far better!) . And everyone in our group felt that way. With ages ranging 9 to 73, it's not easy to find a place that everyone loves, but this place was it. Starting with the staff, every single person working at the ranch wowed us with top shelf friendly, caring, and superb service. We felt so welcomed and well taken care of. The ranch is in a beautiful setting with a peaceful atmosphere perfect for unwinding. The food was fabulous--all we could eat, fresh and homemade, with a variety that made if fun and interesting. We had a couple of picky eaters among the grandchildren, but no worries, there were always options that made even the pickiest of them happy. The adults appreciated the open bar every day, where we could get a beverage and process the day. The activities were varied, with many options but no pressure--each person could choose what they wanted to do every day. The horses are well-trained and paired perfectly with riders according to comfort level and experience, We had three cabins (one for each family) and were more than satisfied. If you are a family that includes horseback riders then this is the place for you. Definitely a five star resort experience! For those who don't ride, then this is less of a five star and more likely a 4+ - still great. First of all the staff are just wonderful. Every single person we encountered was lovely, helpful, and ready to make sure we had whatever we needed. The food is outstanding. For me, having my family around the table 3 times a day and not having to prepare the food or clean up (although we did carry out our dishes to the trays to offload the staff, who work really hard) was the highlight of the week. Mealtimes are not flexible, which turned out to be brilliant, since everyone was then motivated to be in the dining room on time! I have to mention that the kitchen staff deserve many thanks. Donovan, the baker did an outstanding job, as did the chefs and the kitchen manager. The bartenders (Chelsea and Laura) were great also. The wine dinner was excellent. The cabin we stayed in was lovely and spacious. The lodge is great - lots of room. comfortable furniture, a huge deck with beautiful views and lots of chairs and tables. Speaking on behalf of the non-riders, the only disappointment came from thinking there would be many activities as alternatives to horseback riding (the website gave us that impression). Those activities actually turned out to be very carefully scheduled and limited (which is understandable given staffing needs). So if you wanted to go kayaking, you could only do it at specified times; the same with the zip line and other such activities. The pottery painting didn't happen at all because the kiln was broken when we were there. And there was no massage therapist, which some had counted on - again per the website. It's a question of managing expectations. Did we all have a great time regardless - yes, despite the granddaughter who got "eaten alive" by chiggers and is still dealing with the bites weeks later. She did love the horseback riding and the shooting however. One more thing. To fully enjoy this resort it is helpful to be physically fit!! Lots of hills and steep slopes. They do offer shuttle service to any activities for those who can't walk there, and the bar opens at 3pm. read more

What a special place! My family has stayed here a number of times and each visit gets better and better! The staff is super friendly and eager to help in any way they can. The food was incredible, and they were very accommodating. As a vegan, they provided me delicious options at every meal. I felt very taken care of! The activities are so fun, and they have something for everyone. My favorite activity was archery with Connor. He was a fantastic archery guide! He sure knew his stuff- give him a raise! I highly recommend doing the archery hike for anyone visiting soon, it was a blast! Red Horse is the perfect week away for the whole family. I hope to be back soon! read more

My family and I just stayed for a week at The Red Horse Mountain Dude Ranch, it was by far one of the best family experiences I have ever had with my family. The staff was beyond accommodating from the moment we showed up until the last minutes of our stay. We were immediately greeted by Rob and Ashley when we arrived. We traveled by RV which we were nervous about but Rob directed us to a nice place to park it for the week. We were then asked if we would like anything before seeing our accommodations. We never felt rushed or hurried. The whole week they work around your schedule and make sure you are perfectly content. If you want to ride a horse you can if you want to just sit, relax, and drink cocktails you can. A big shout out to JD the bartender who was always around to make sure your drink glass did not go empty. When it came to horseback riding you could grab a horse pretty much whenever your heart desired. John, Ariel, and their wranglers kept the horses and stables in immaculate shape. They made sure that everything was to your liking and they had a riding program for about any level of rider you could need. They even managed to make my 75 year old mother in law and father in law comfortable on a horse. If you are into riding and have little ones then this is the place for you! While riding, the other wranglers, like Emma and Allison, kept our little ones entertained and happy. They went above and beyond to help out my family to make sure we got to ride and that our kids were safely taken care of, which now adays is a rare thing. If horseback riding is not your thing then they have all the amenities to keep you happy. You can partake in trap shooting, bike riding, swimming, challenge courses and of course the Megazip! I was helped at almost every station by a great young man named Dawson. He was always there to help out and provide laughter, no matter what station you happened to be attending. He seemed very knowledgeable about everything on the ranch. There was not one person on the ranch that did not go above and beyond from hospitality to wranglers. I am sure I could sit here and try and name all the helpful people but that would be a much longer write up. I almost forgot to mention the food!!!! Oh my goodness the meals were amazing and everything was customized to your diet or likings. I thought it would be meat and potatoes every night but they blew me away with the diverse menu that it seemed everyone loved. DO NOT MISS the wine dinner, 5 courses of amazing food is all I can say! To sum it all up I give the ranch 5 stars and 6 if I could. Thank you to the staff and we will be back. Horseback riding on good quality, well-cared for horses. There are rides tailored for all levels and they offer adult-only weeks as well as for singles and women-only. If you pass the test, you can go on galloping rides. You get the same horse for the whole week, so you can get to know him. If you want, you can have a lesson. Considering that it is all-inclusive, covering all meals, beer and wine, riding, and other activities, it's a good bargain. Other activities include hiking, yoga, clay shooting, an archery course, a zip line, kayaking, biking, swimming, hot tubs, mountain biking, climbing, campfire singing, and pottery making. My entire family and I recently went to the Red Horse Mountain Ranch. I expected that there would be a lot of activities. My expectations were vastly exceeded. I can safely say that this was one of the best vacations I've ever experienced. As a family destination this cannot be beaten. There is an activity for everyone in the family no matter what their age. There is an activity for everyone no matter what their skill level. You can't ignore the beautiful setting in the isolated private location. Yet, probably the best feature about the Red Horse Mountain Ranch would be the attention that is given to each individual guest by the excellent staff. The staff obviously knows horses and they know the outdoors. They work hard every day to ensure that each guest has a good experience. We also enjoyed the company of fellow guests who were there for the same period of time. The first Sunday consisted of watching the horses run and a campfire. Monday morning you start with being introduced to horseback riding on a individualized horse selected for your needs. You can take any sort of ride with any sort of difficulty. There are sign up sheets where you can plan activities for the whole week - both together as a family or with special activities meant just for kids. You will not be bored. I have never had a more active vacation. There is every level of horseback riding, adventure course for kids, hot tub, private cabins, swimming, zip line, .22 rifle, sporting clays, fishing, mountain biking, horse shoes, access to archery, kayaking, arts and crafts, live music, karaoke, full open bar, gourmet breakfast lunch and dinner. I really can't think of a better way to spend a vacation. I want to mention that within the first day my kids asked to come back. I chose them because of their location and diversity of events including riding, fishing and clay shooting, and they didn't disappoint. You can be busy all day, every day and evening. They have a large string of horses, so everyone could get what they wanted. They even have fast rides for experienced riders which is unusual. Their facilities were good and comfortable, and the food was outstanding with free drinks of all kinds, including alcohol. I'm an older guy in my 90s. I was disappointed in two things. First, the living and dining facilities were located on a bluff above the valley floor where the activities were located, and steep trails connected both. I probably would have gone somewhere else if their literature had made that more evident. Second, since I didn't engage in some of the daily activities, I missed a comfortable lounge facility where I could relax and read. read more

I wish I were able to post a glowing review of Red Horse Mountain Ranch. Instead I experienced their inflexible and impersonal cancellation policy and substandard communication while holding a non-refundable $900 deposit. * My reservation was confirmed for 25-31 August * In late July I was hospitalized for a serious medical situation and was advised not to travel and remain close to medical facilities. * On 29 July I contacted Red Horse Mountain Ranch to explain the situation. The Office Manager informed me that because I was within the 45-day window, the ranch would not refund my $900 deposit nor honor a date transfer unless they were able to fill my reservation. I was also told "this is what trip insurance is for." * The following week I received further diagnosis and was advised to begin treatment immediately. The Oncologist provided a letter stating that I was not authorized to travel due to my condition and ongoing treatment. * I provided this letter to the Ranch Office Manager on 2 August 2013 and was told that she passed this information on to management and I would be contacted as soon as a final decision was made. * I followed-up with the Office Manager on 23 August (three weeks later) when I hadn't received any reply. Within 45 minutes I received a response from the Office Manager that management will not offer any refund or date transfer. I understand and respect the need for a firm cancellation policy since the ranch can only accommodate a limited number of guests each week. Although, as a resort that prides itself on knowing the names and the needs of each guest visiting the property, I would expect a personalized experience when dealing with management on a reservation change/cancellation due to a serious and documented medical condition. I'm disappointed that a business which claims to place the utmost importance on the experiences of their guests would refuse the opportunity to have a personal conversation with me to discuss whether an agreeable compromise exists which mutually benefits the business and guest. Instead, my $900 non-refundable deposit barely even bought me the courtesy of their reply. read more

When my sister said she wanted to go to a dude ranch to celebrate her college graduation in 2008, we thought she was kidding. She wasn't. So in June 2008, my parents, sister and I (4 city slickers in every sense) bought some new boots and flew to Red Horse Mountain Ranch. We had an incredible experience! The staff is so friendly, and truly made us feel special. As a family that had never repeated a vacation before, we have been back every year since. I went on a weeklong all-girls trip to Red Mountain Ranch a month ago and couldn't have been more surprised. It was such a magical place. The entire staff made us feel like we were special guests in their home. I can't say enough good things about the people. And the horses were amazing.
