This is my absolute favorite place to eat in Tahoe. I've been coming here for decades. That being said it's definitely a solid 3.5 stars However, this was my first time at the state line spot. Couple things - service is wonderful but it can be slow. There's usually a wait but we got there around 12:45 and we were seated right away. My favorite thing to order is the grilled Turkey Ortega chilies with cheese melt. Omelettes are always a good choice too My boyfriend ordered the Red Hut Rosti with all 3 meats & an egg. No idea why this place has such high ratings. The food is absolutely mediocre... NOTHING special. Not to mention the service was terrible. This is a one lane restaurant so to not be attentive is very confusing. No drink refills no check back, we had to ask for the check because our server was just standing there staring at the restaurant. My daughters food had a hair. Not a single apology from anyone. Just an eye roll and bad attitude. Mostly the food is terrible. I get better quality at dennys then we did here. And at least they are nicer than this place. read more

Amazing! This review is for my beakfast on 7/23/22. Outdoor seating is available and lots of parking on the side of the restaurant. Upon being seated I asked the hostess what their popular dish was so I went with a Red Hut Roti with all three meats and an egg. Glad I got the egg with the meal because it was delicious to have the yolk run over the hashbrown scramble. I also ordered a strawberry waffle with the whip cream on the side. Both excellent choices. My partner got the grilled turkey Ortega chili and cheese sandwich. Unfortunately, her dish came out and she needed to send it back because the turkey meat was on the cold side between the grilled bread. If you're ready to escape casino fare and ready to check out a hidden gem of a local breakfast spot, venture over here. Finally got to come here before snow shoeing at Chickadee Ridge last Friday. Place gets great reviews but has been line out the door the previous attempts. Lucked out this time. It's really small, but serves up some big breakfasts at reasonable prices. The omelets are ginormous, enough for 2 or 1 if you need a good hangover cure! We shared a 5 item omelet off a list plus choice of cheese (bacon, sausage, spinach, mushrooms, bell pepper,onions and cheddar cheese) cooked just right. Plenty of fixins inside, plus not greasy hashbrowns. Server kept the coffee cup filled. Sorry, no photos, too hungry!! Definitely our go-to for breakfast in South Lake Tahoe. read more

Frankly, it was a strange experience. We literally could not understand the young waitress and decided she was very inexperienced. We arrived shortly after opening. I ordered a veggie omelette and the waitress pointed to a list of vegetables and told me I could only pick one! I tried to question her about this and finally she let me choose 2 vegetables. Large portions. Food is really good. Old school feel. A bit cramped inside, not much seating. Looked like there was one large table. Otherwise, tables for 4 were along the wall, and tables for 2 between the wall and kitchen. The tables were old school tables and chairs. Red Hut Cafe is great spot to dine in or take out if you are in the Tahoe area or if you are passing by. We called in a take out order as we were on our way to Apple Hill. Staff was friendly and fast. We ordered 3 breakfast sandwiches hash browns and some orange juices for the road. Upon arriving there was a line out the door. Without a doubt the worst scrambled eggs I have ever had:( how do you screw up scrambled eggs at a breakfast place and because someone else in our group also got scrambled eggs, I know that it wasn't just mine. Her eggs were just the same, super hard and it's like they scrambled them on the flat top so they were not mixed up so it was a pile of hard whites and hard yellows in a pile. Someone else in our group had a fried egg and they did not complain so it's just scrambled eggs that they have a problem with because honestly everything else was pretty good. We went here a couple times in the last week. The food, including pancakes, French toast, chicken fried steak, waffles, patty melt, and all the sides was all delicious. We sat outside around noon, which was perfect cover using umbrellas. There was no wait for a weekday lunch. Service was adequate. They could work on following through with requests and expediting food efficiently. And the host could use a little work on honing some basic interpersonal skills. what a disappointment. i took a group here and i ordered a special with pancakes, scrambled eggs and sausage. the pancakes were inly cooked on one side, the scrambled eggs were way over cooked and then chopped up into little bits to hide how overcooked they were and the sausage looked like it had been cooked for days. it was inedible and whoever cooked that meal had no business in a kitchen. i told the waitress and she took half the order off my bill. not a great experience and i was embarrassed that i recommended this place to my group. hopefully management sees this and does something to improve. read more

Yes I ate half of the pancake because I was starving. It took 1 hour for our food. The BEST breakfast I have ever had other than when I make it myself at home! I got the red hut rosti, 2 days in a row! First time I got it with ham and jalapeños. Small restaurant but solid brunch fare. My friends and I all thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. We came Saturday around 12:15 and got seated around 1 for party of 4. We were quoted a 45 minute wait time when we first arrived, which ended up being surprisingly accurate. I ordered a customized 3 ingredient omelette with bacon, ham, and mushrooms ($13.75). It also comes with hash browns and toast on the side. The omelette was solid. They loaded it full with ingredients, though I did want them to cut the bacon into smaller pieces. They put the whole strip of bacon into the omelette which made it harder to cut. The hashbrowns were delicious with crunchy bits on the top and bottom both. I usually don't finish all of my side potatoes, but I ate every bite of the hashbrowns. They were done perfectly here! The space is small and tables are a bit crammed together. I love a diner, so so much. Red Hut knocks the diner atmosphere out of the park! We came a few minutes after they opened at 6 and weren't even the first people there. Coffee? Delicious, hot, always being refilled, great diner mugs. The most important things to me in a breakfast place are: are the hashbrowns crunchy and is the bacon crispy? Red hut really has both of these down so well. The waffle sandwich is a fun breakfast treat, but be aware it comes not assembled so you must build it yourself- maybe it's even more fun this way!! Red Hut Café Nevada is a small, simple café that serves breakfast and lunch for great value. They close at 2:00pm so don't go there too late. I came on a Saturday morning and there was no wait. We were seated right away, browsed the menu, but decided to order the special written on the wall...The Usual. The Usual was simple, but satisfying! My two eggs (over medium) were cooked perfectly, the hash browns were crispy on the outside and soft underneath, and the biscuits and gravy were a-ok. There are plenty of condiments on the table...salt, pepper, ketchup, Tabasco, Cholula, etc...to enhance the flavoring of the eggs and hash browns. I also ordered the Mickey Mouse pancakes and hot chocolate from the kids menu for $4.99. The pancake was cute! Kids will love it. The hot chocolate came with a mountain of whipped cream, making it even more delectable that we had imagined. We ordered a refill on the hot chocolate and this time, it came with sprinkles on top! Service was really good! Our waitress took our order quickly and the food came out really fast! Atmosphere: As the name suggests, the Red Hut Cafe is located in a red hut. I haven't seen all of the locations but I know the South Lake Tahoe was in a red style hut too. Since the Lake Tahoe area is a huge ski resort, it has ski resort vibes. It's a little cabin-style restaurant. The inside has bright red chrome tables with vintage signs. Coffee: The coffee was brewed hot and fresh. They added plenty of whipped cream, and it tasted great. With the pandemic and getting takeout, it's the first diner coffee I've had in a while, and I couldn't ask for a better experience. Food: B The Red Hut Cafe menu has everything you could want in a diner. From omelets, to waffles, to salads to sandwiches. There is a little bit of everything! There is all-day breakfast and lunch (they close at 2 pm). There are several locations around Lake Tahoe. The one we drove by on the California side also had a sign that said "waffle hut". I assumed this meant all of the Red Hut Cafe's were known for their waffles. I decided to order the pecan waffle and a side of hashbrowns. I ordered takeout, so when I got back, the whipped cream had melted. The waffle was thin (like a Waffle House waffle). Had I known that, I probably would have ordered two. It was good, and the hashbrowns were as well. Next time I'll order a couple of waffles and it will be a good-sized meal. Service: I ordered takeout and the hostess/servers were extremely friendly. I could not have asked for a better experience. Overall Thoughts/Would I Come Back? I liked the Red Hut Cafe, and if I'm in the Lake Tahoe area, I will go back. The service is pretty bad. The food was lukewarm at best. Had to continually ask for water and coffee. Not even the little things like that were done with efficiency. With the prices they charge, a customer should at least get decent service and hot food. Whoever is managing this place needs to do a better job training their staff. The servers and bussers were at least nice. Casey's is a much better breakfast spot. The service is great there, the food is hot and delicious, and the prices are the same, if not cheaper. I don't even know how to start this review. We pulled up and I had already questioned our decision to dine here. Walking in felt like I was going to fall through the floor. It wasn't a clean atmosphere by any means. The servers treated us as if we were bothering them. The bathroom were just above using a port-a-potty, it was pretty gross. The food was mediocre at best. Overall I'm just glad I didn't get food poisoning. The waitresses has permanent scowls on their face which just made us want to hurry up and leave. Our experience was a little confusing to start. There were signs around saying "see hostess for outside seating" (or something like it) and when we asked they said they aren't serving outside. So we got our food to-go and sat outside. Okay, not THAT big of deal. The restaurant itself is super small - really homey and probably charming pre-covid - maybe 7 tables or so inside. They were all full and people were sitting outside. (Great spot to enjoy your food outside!!) Some people were buying branded merchandise too, I thought it would be a really yummy breakfast! But- overall, it was kind of disappointing. (Some of that could be because of covid changes. It's hard to tell.) It wasn't elevated diner food, or extra tasty, or big portions. But note from reviews, other people love this place. I ordered a waffle sandwich, but it didn't come assembled or anything. I had one holder for the waffle inside and then another one had ONE EGG and the bacon. I'm not sure if they didn't any it to get soggy or something? It just seemed odd to me. The best thing we got was the cornbread waffle. So if you're thinking about it, get that. It's crispy and sweet and different than any other waffle I've had. The jalapeño bacon was tasty! The pecan waffle, we expected to be more extra. It was just waffle batter with pecan pieces thrown in. No extra flavor or toppings or anything. A cozy, welcoming and hidden place on the state line of California and Nevada! We loved the food we ordered here. The staff was welcoming and accommodating. They served me and helped me with my order in the middle of the huge crowd. I expressed my reluctance to crowd the guest area, and instead wait out, they not only brought my order to me specially, but also made me feel appreciate for helping with restricting crowds per COVID restrictions. I ordered a banana pecan waffle, original waffle, asparagus omelette and fruit cup! Everything turned out delicious. They have outdoor seating which is absolutely amazing with the views of mountains and trees. I and my party grabbed a wooden table to enjoy the tender morning sun and food. Ok, I've been here a couple of times for breakfast. It was good. Im giving 5 stars for their burger. I had a bacon, cheddar, ortega chili hamburger and of course it comes with lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and fry's. This bun was really good and fresh.
