Our favorite breakfast place in Tahoe! I cannot recommend the Red Hut enough. Seriously. The food was great, the staff was friendly, the prices were reasonable. This will be our first breakfast stop whenever we make our way back to Tahoe. (Side note - I have a feeling this is going to be a short review because when places are amazing it's difficult to find things to say other than, "this place is great!", whereas it's easy to be critical of places.) The Red Hut is a small/intimate classic American diner and they serve classic American breakfast food. This is everything you want a breakfast place to be. As mentioned the food was great! Good portion sides for the price, good taste, and good selection. The wait staff were all friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the pecan waffle. DELICIOUS! The only mistake we made regarding the Red Hut is that this was the first breakfast place we went to and everything after that failed to measure up. This used to be our favorite place to eat breakfast when visiting Tahoe. We came up Labor Day weekend. On Friday morning we decided to hit up Red Hut for breakfast. To our surprise it was pretty slow, so we asked to sit outside since it was great weather. "We are not seating outside " said the host. We sat inside and ordered our breakfast and coffee. Coffee tasted like warm water. My wife had the McHut which was horrible. It tasted like they used frozen sausage patties that were microwaved. I ordered the 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 bacon breakfast. Eggs were greasy, bacon was thin and not cooked completely and sausage was ughh. This Red Hut on Kingsbury is now off our to visit list when in Tahoe. read more

The best place for breakfast!! On G Oh D. We had Michelle as our server and she was fabulous. Highly recommend the Red Hut Rosti, such a fulfilling and nutritious dish. I ordered it with all the meat and the egg and added an avocado and I had to order it the 3x I came in. Michelle took care of us was prompt and very professional and polite. I'll forever come back to this restaurant for breakfast and brunch on the south shore because it was a very cozy atmosphere and place to be in the heart of the storm. I really enjoyed the service of the place and the location it was easy to find and lots of parking. Food was phenomenal, and service was top tier. Definitely recommend for families or couples for a great breakfast experience in south lake. Amazing staff, plenty of room to sit outside and they are taking lots of covid precautions (very appreciated). We had the Rosti and the blueberry French toast with strawberries and bacon. The Rosti was very flavorful and the hash browns were crunchy and tender, which is sometimes hard to find. The French toast was beautifully balanced in flavor and the bread was not super thick so I was able to finish ALL of it (which rarely happens with French toasts). read more

I LOVE AMERiCAN Breakfast!!! Doesn't look like much when you drive by, only way I found this place was when asking the bell hop at the Edgewood resort for a place for breakfast. This is my second time to visit a "Red Hut" this location doesn't disappoint. If you have a family with kids under 8 I highly recommend it because kids menu is well worth it! Price is not bad if you don't have kids too. My wife ordered the Usual. I ordered the chicken fried steak. To be honest I didn't like the chicken fried steak too much only because their batter might be too salty for me. Other than that everything including service was great! read more

A couple of locals we spoke to told us that the Red Hut Cafe was "the" place where locals would go for breakfast. I was debating between Red Hut and another place that I had found on Yelp but in the end I decided that the locals probably knew best And they were right! First off, this place is super tiny. I think there's something quite charming about these road side breakfast places. We were told the wait was going to be around 25 minutes or so, they called us around 15. I had their waffles, as I love waffles and always prefer it over pancakes, along with their egg and sausages (the sausage links were really good). It hit the spot. The Mr had their ommellet with raisin bread as his side. Their hash browns were very nice and crispy, not a lot of places make it this crispy! So yummy! I had their coffee and the Mr got their ice tea. They gave him the BIGGEST cup of ice tea ever! Overall it was a good start to our day! Cheers! read more

I had a bacon & cheese omelette, my son ordered a grilled cheese which was delicious & my husband ordered biscuits & gravy off today's specials. Red Hut Rosti is a MUST. //CONTEXT// Came here on memorial day weekend, Saturday around 10 am and Monday at 9 am. We got seated immediately as a party of two. //ENVIRONMENT// Cozy diner vibes, with cute red accents. It's a small location so harder for bigger parties as they have tables for four, two, and bar seating. //FOOD// - Red Hut Rosti: it's a must have! Grated hash browns grilled to crispy perfection, cheese, onions, sour cream on the side, and your choice of adding bacon, sausage and ham. I normally am not a huge breakfast meat eater but the meats here are a must try! It's tasty but doesn't taste overly greasy. The ham steak is moist and subtle and bacon is crispy. I also added an egg. - Biscuit: a plain and simple biscuit with butter! Good to compliment my Rosti - French toast: my friend had this and said it was good but liked the Rosti better. //SERVICE// Decent but can be a bit slow since there doesn't seem to be many waiters up front. For hash brown potatoes lovers with a twist that this locally run diner has come up with was a filling treat that I can enjoy every morning if I could. The French toast was on the small side but still very good. Waffle top with bananas was good but had better. Coffee was hot. This is a cozy diner that make you feel welcome with friendly service and very good food. I got the avocado and cheese omelette. There was nothing really exceptional about it-- it just tasted like an average breakfast omelette. There wasn't much seasoning on it which made the breakfast a little less memorable. One plus was that there was a LOT of fresh avocado inside the omelette (wouldn't be surprised to hear if they used an entire avocado). The hashbrowns were good, pretty crunchy! Twi stars for the service and zero for the food. I ordered the waffle specially when I read it was a 50 years old recipe. Unfortunately, it was a big disappointment. It came out flat and doughy. The server was gracious enough to make another one for me, but it came out exactly the same. I think you should ditch the 50 years old recipe and invest in a new waffle machine. Known as one of the only breakfast places in town. Expect a long wait as this location is even smaller and seems to turn over a bit slower as well. Waited over an hour for seating and then took quite a bit to order as well as receive food. They could staff a bit better as the couple servers were running around as best they could. The food was good, though a bit on the upper end for breakfast pricing. I'm hesitant to say the food is worth the wait as it's such a lengthy wait for the standard breakfast fare with a few speciality items. Almost everything about this 1950's style diner place has been said and it's mostly great. I agree, clean, top shelf service, a broad menu of breakfasts and burgers. A hint of old european innovation like the Rosti which drew me in. We noticed about 5 wait people on the floor as the place was packed on a snowy Sunday in March, so the service was EXCEPTIONAL. 5 people in small 20 table place is a lot of help. 5 stars for the awesome service. The meals are not quite 5 star (to be totally fair here), but the prices are very fair and overall you will not go wrong at this location of this 6 location chain of the Tahoe/Carson Valley region. I know that this is COVID 19 season still, but this hostess was so damn inconsiderate and made my whole family stand outside while she talked with a customer who was having trouble paying his bill. I asked her if she would let us sit down and she said she would be right with me. I'm holding my 18-month-old baby and the rest of my family is outside when there was a wide open table 12 feet away from everyone in the corner restaurant and she wouldn't let us sit down she made a stand there while she chit chatted with another customer about a whole bunch of nothing after he finally paid his bill I will never come back to this dump again read more

So...we checked out this place based on mostly positive reviews and an interesting menu. Hubby ordered the chicken fried steak. It was slathered with a thick gooey gravy, perhaps to disguise the mystery meat product buried underneath it. He ordered it with hash browns, scrambled eggs and toast. Can't screw up the basics, right? (More on that later.) I ordered the rosti which sounded delicious. Except it wasn't. It consisted of horribly burnt, like blackened, hash browns which were covered in so much melted cheese I nearly gagged. I could only eat a few bites before giving up. Little places like this are so cute and starting to get hard to find. I never expected to find one in Tahoe since it's such a touristy place. Everything here was so good! The chorizo is so well flavored. I got the red hut rosati and it was fantastic! The fries are super fresh and pairing with the gravy makes them that much better. It's a really lovely small cafe in the south Tahoe area. It's really close to our hotel, and there are sufficient parking space. They have enforced social distance and arranged the tables separately making sure it's safe for the customers to dine with caution. The food is amazing! read more
