We had a great time checking out Red Light Ramen Bar. The food is decent and the staff were friendly. The drinks were really good. Definitely would recommend checking this spot out.

Took my son here for his birthday lunch, we had never been before and had been wanting to go for quite a while. Everything looked SO good when it got to our table (we got an appy of potstickers or dumplings? can't remember) which were...ok, edible but not great. And then we each got ramen, his was chicken, mine was pork. The eggs/chicken/pork that decorated the top of the dish was really good, but the broth and noodle lacked any flavour at all. The broth tasted like slightly eggy water, I expected a lot more from a pho. So we ate the toppings and a couple bites of the soup but couldn't stomach anymore, so when we asked for the bill, the waitress saw we hadn't eaten our meal and asked if it was okay, I told her we didn't really like it and explained how it tasted and that it was lacking any flavour so she talked to someone in the kitchen & they didn't charge us for the ramen, which as really nice. Sadly our first and only time there put us off of ever wanting to going back.

Outstanding menu and meal. Soft boiled eggs marinated overnight traditional Japanese style - outstanding. Loved the butternut squash bowl with mushrooms and zucchini noodles. Butternut squash gyoza really good and garlic edamame SO good (large portion). Spinach salad really good and nice beet curls on top. Ginger margarita was ok - I liked the ginger flavor but not the cucumber. Nice and warm inside with pleasant fire burning in the wood stove. Atlantis mocktail full of super herbs and absolutely delicious. I ordered a second with some gin on the side and left with such a nice buzz! I wish they offered brown rice noodles instead of white rice noodles. House made kombucha yum!

    Yummy kimchi gyoza!

We came here last year and ramen was not bad, but this year it seems like they improved their recipe and ramen was tasty! As well as kimchi gyozas! Next step for them would be homemade ramen noodles! ;)

Such a cute restaurant, just have to wonder down an alley and its tucked away. Service was good and friendly. The soup was so good even my kids couldn't get enough. We also had the gyoza and they were very good as well. It was kid friendly and I always enjoy community seating.

My partner and I were on a road trip to Nelson and Ainsworth last week. We happened upon Red Light Ramen Bar and wanted to try the place out. Ramen and a bar together?! The concept was amazing. As a previous review mentions, the place has a ton of potential but fell short. The vibe was great, there was a live DJ and people seemed like they were having a great time. The cocktail and alcohol selection seemed decent but because we were driving we opted out and decided to have non-alcoholic beverages. My partner ordered the hot cacao, it had a ton of ingredients listed and he ordered it because it was intriguing. The drink in our opinion (I tried it) just wasn't good, he didn't finish it. I ordered the Jun tea and it was basically tasteless and watered down. I had to use the lime they used for garnish so that it would have some flavour. I often drink Kombucha, and understand that Jun is a lighter since it uses green tea but I didn't think it would taste like slightly limed water. Now on to the ramen, we ordered two different types of ramen - the kabucha with kabucha miso and pork tonkotsu ramen with charcoal. With the amount of listed ingredients placed in all the ramen we thought it would taste great -- we were disappointed. The food and presentation looked good, the egg was great but the most important thing about ramen, the broth, lacked in flavour and salt. I found the pickled ginger (the type you get as a side to sushi) in our ramen gave me bombs of sweet vinegar ginger that was overpowering. Now, I understand the concept of brightening up a dish with something pickled but that flavour was not welcome -- especially if there was no richness or depth of flavour to cut. I gave this place 2 stars because of it's atmosphere. It seems like a fun place to go, hang out and have drinks. I wouldn't recommend the food.

Tantan butternut miso (vegan version, i.e., without egg)

Located in an alleyway just off the main road, this place has a nice patio with four tables for dining in--good for COVID times. I ordered the tantan butternut miso, a spicy version of the regular butternut miso which for some reason doesn't come with tofu while the regular does. To make it vegan, they just omit egg -- I asked if the egg could be substituted for tofu and they declined. Not impressed with that kind of stinginess; why should I pay the same amount for less food, especially for an already expensive ramen ($15.75 plus tax). Anyway, the ramen itself is very good, though more reminiscent of a curry. The flavour is a nice mix of the squash and curry, with traces of miso. Really think broth, which is again more reminiscent of a curry. Two pieces of squash, decent portion of noodles, some wakame, green onion, fried onion, and a few pea shoots. I wish there were more veggies and substance in general, but I was satisfied enough. Solid spot, but it could be improved in the aforementioned ways.

The Library Lounge has a very old English Gentlemen Club look and feel with bookshelves on the walls ( hence Library ). I say amazing customer service is that the restaurant staffs are very accommodating and also courteous, while we were waiting for our table, ( they had a very very busy Wednesday night ), even the Bar Tender came to chat with just keep us happy. We ordered: To start : Beef Barley Soup / Borscht both were done well but it took about 45 mins. before our soup appeared, our server did communicate to the kitchen but still our soups were not ready until later! I do not blame the server at all, but I saw a few tables before us got their soups or salads and they all came after us. Oh well, sometimes the kitchen staffs are hard to deal with. Steak & Prawns - Cooked to perfection, the meat is slightly on the lean side for my taste, but still very flavourful. Seafood Pasta - Tomato based sauce filled with Halibut, Salmon, Mussels etc. Creamy and full of fresh tomatoes, the pasta can be a tad more al dente and will be perfect! Nice ambience, with live music, this is a great spot to come enjoy a relaxing evening with good food and wine, and of course the very friendly staffs and even fellow dinners!!

There was outdoor seating that was wonderful for this hot evening, but there is a bit of a wait to get that seating. It is an umbrella covered seating area with a candle on the table, giving a romantic or cozy feeling. The service was nice but busy as expected. The server had a nice approach, but I felt like I was being sold items that the server first said she did t care for, but as I selected the item, she then said it was a great choice and that she liked it. I'm never really interested in the likes or dislikes of the server, but their description of dishes and answers to questions about ingredients or items on a dish on invaluable. I had the spicy fried chicken sandwich with a salad. The chicken breast was perfectly prepared with a nice crunch. It was served on a brioche bun. I had sharp cheddar cheese with the usual burger toppings. I am now appreciating that spicy, according to the palates of European - associated community, is not the same as it would be in some Latin, Thai, or Black/African communities. I love moderate to high heat and spice. What is considered "very spicy and hot", to my palate, was mild and tasty. That being said, it was a tasty burger and the salad was fine. We did not order dessert given how busy it was and we were tired from a long day. I would recommend this place to eat as a bit of an upscale bar food place. I would recommend that the chefs learn how to adjust the heat and spice for those of us believing the menu when it says hot and spicy*** as server for increased heat and spice.

That's fine and our preference anyway. But we seemingly didn't have a sever assigned. The bar is huge and the bartender was always busy at the other end. On this evening, reservations were placed at the far end, by the dish area. Our order was eventually taken by the host. No one ever came to check in or offer a refill of beverages or absolutely anything else. Eventually, haven given up on that second drink, we asked one of the waitresses of we could have our tab. She said she'd "get our server" but then ignored us and no one ever came. The second attempt with a different server was finally success. No one was outright rude to us but the service was not at all hospitable. If you're a 2-3 top to a high top table to have a shot at a proper server.

Marzano clearly puts intention behind what they do, drawing inspiration from traditional Neapolitan techniques and a focus on high-quality, simple ingredients, and that care shows up on the menu. From an accessibility standpoint, this was one of the easier Italian meals I've had while eating GF. Gluten-free options were clearly labeled, including modification notes, which made ordering straightforward. Nearly all pizzas and pastas could be made gluten free, aside from specialty pastas like the gnocchi and lasagna. They also had a gluten-free focaccia available as an appetizer, which had an excellent texture. The appetizers were a standout. We shared the gnocchi and burrata and both were delicious. Pizza got great feedback from the table overall, though a couple slices were slightly undercooked in the center and flopped when picked up. I ordered the sirloin, which was okay, though not my favorite part of the meal. Service was excellent. Our server was attentive and thoughtful, offering a soup sample to our 90-year-old guest who was unsure about the daily option, and kindly helped wrangle us for a group photo during a busy dinner hour, which I really appreciated. The interior is gorgeous--modern, warm, and very well maintained. Even though Marzano opened in 2018, it feels much newer. I debated between a 4 and 5 star review due to my entrée and the pizza texture, but the intention is clearly there, and the overall experience was strong. I'd absolutely come back and would love to try more of the menu next time.
