We absolutely love this place and it's our favorite brewery in Red Lodge -- especially for their fantastic cider selection. The ciders are consistently great and we always make a point to stop in when we're in town. However, visiting in the off-season can be tricky. When we were there, only one employee was working the bar. We ordered a beer and a cider flight, but after we ordered several more customers came in and lined up. The bartender understandably tried to take care of everyone, but ended up serving at least six new arrivals -- pouring beers and running payments -- while our order never came. After about 20 minutes we had to leave, which was really disappointing because we were genuinely looking forward to it. This isn't a complaint about the staff -- she was clearly doing her best -- just a heads-up: if you visit during slower months, be prepared for limited staffing and longer waits (and possibly no food service). We'll definitely still come back... just maybe during busier season next time. read more

Stop 1 of 8 for Montana on our Hundreds of Hops self-guided US Hop Passport Brewery Tour Amazing Brewery Race 2025 I must say, a touristy area falling in the 3 star range didn't have me anticipating a fantastic experience. I was leaning towards something mediocre put there to drain the pockets of a would-be thristy, or perhaps hungry, passerby... We drove through the hoards of people to the outskirts, where the crowds thinned & the parking opened up to a large lot. Cool. So far, so good. The red building was easy enough to spot & there was music playing from a tent in the field. We headed for the building door from the back of the building and found ourselves sniffing the air... could that be house smoked meat? Yes, yes, it is... and making us walk by a smoker is a sure-fire (pun intended) way to get us to buy your food along with your beer! On to the bar we went, where we were met by an energetic 1 day a week worker. (We know because she mentioned it, we weren't THAT nosey!) She gave us a run through & we ordered our BOGO brews & an order of pulled pork tacos with black beans to split. Were they spicy tacos, no. Were they on flour instead of corn, yes. Was the pork tender, juicy, flavorful & smoky... YES! The black beans were a great side choice if I must say so myself & both paired well with our beer options. Dually Double IPA in at 4.5 for Kel - n/a from me Dog Pull Porter in at 3.75 from Kel & 4 from me Unfortunately, the only to-go option then was growlers & that didn't work for us at the time. Next time through, perhaps it will or crowlers (other options) will be available. We would indeed go back. On paying, they did miss the bogo beer & offered us our choice of refund and recharge correctly or 2 free drinks next visit. As we haf no idea when we'd be back, we sadly had to opt for the refund. On a recent drive to the mountains, we stopped into this little spot that my sister recommended. There was plenty of parking and seating, and it was super cozy inside. We were frustrated that upon reviewing the menu and being ready to order some great food, their smoker was broken and they were unable to offer half of their menu. We were really looking forward to it, and may have come back another day if someone had told us sooner. That being said, we did still grab some burgers and chicken tenders and the food was great. One of the few times my picky dad loved the burger and would go back for it! The chicken was crispy and flavorful, and the portions were solid. We also had a one year old with us, and the space was child friendly, with high chairs and a kids menu, so that was appreciated! We will have to go back in the future and try their more signature items. read more

We were there last night. Food ok a beer good and server good. However a man at another table was cussing loudly during our stay. I complained to the server after we were finished that there were kids in the room and the noise kind of wrecked our experience. She apologized and said she didn't hear him. She went over to talk to him. The problem was the place was almost empty and she had to have heard him all through the meal. So that didn't sit well with me. Steve and I had Red Lodge Ales Brewing's beer recently and had their Czechmate Pilsner and simply loved it! We are heavily biased towards pilsners anyway buy this well made on made us just boost our fondness for them even more. Flavor highlights with this refreshing beer are clean, sweet and hoppy. The beer goes dow smoothly as wel which is alway a plus. Very good start with this brewery and ther pilsner and whenever an opportunity arises I'd like yo try some of their other beers and hopefully it's as positive of an experience as the pilsner we had! read more

Visiting Red Lodge with family from Columbus, MT. Family includes three kids, and some gluten free people. Family members have had Red Lodge Ales before, and enjoyed the beer. Looked at menu online ahead of time. Confirmed gluten free options available along with cider, and kid friendly. Tried to order a burger with gluten free bun. Waitress responded "we have never had that option", after pointing out the gluten free option printed on the menu, and asking her to check, she returned stating there was no gluten free bun. Did not offer alternatives, or an apology. In fact, was rather unfriendly. Limited alternative gluten free options other than salad. Small kids menu that did not include cheeseburger option or milk. We visited during "off season", place was moderately busy, but not bustling. Food and drinks we did order were fine, but did not get a friendly welcoming vibe. Would likely not return. read more

The service was horrible. Waited 10 minutes to order for her only to tell us to have a seat and wait longer. We ordered a flight and it took 20 minutes for them to remember that we did order one. Service is awful! Been here over 20 minutes - Sign says sit yourself; sever will be with you. Well that's a lie. We had to go to the bar and get our own drinks. Great beers/ciders, great atmosphere, and great customer service! We have been here several times now and each time we have had a great experience! They always have really tasty beers to try. We love the shandy! We have done their beer yoga in the summer that is very fun as well! The food is also normally really good! We've been here twice now while traveling. I thought maybe the first time was just a fluke... but it was the same experience. The servers would literally walk past and look right at you and say nothing. We had to order drinks at the bar and ended up just leaving after sitting at a table for 20 minutes with nothing being said to us. I really loved the location and vibe at this brewery. It also has good so that's a HUGE plus. I was in town with my not even 1 year old daughter and meeting a bunch of friendos in Red Lodge. This became our gathering center throughout the wedding weekend. The inside doesn't have a ton of seating but there is plenty of space if you want to stand and mingle. It also served as a bit more space for the kids to play on the floor rather than be bopping around tables. When it was nice outside after a day of hiking we found ourselves here for lunch and the patio/lawn was the most fabulous place to cool down with a drink and let the kiddos play. Cannot recommend this place. We went there on a busy day totally expecting that we'll be waiting a while. It's a seat yourself place but on a busy day it becomes a fight for any table you can get place. So people that had been waiting were having tables "stolen' from them. We eventually got a table and waited about 15 min before someone took our order. 30 min after we ordered we got our drinks and were told the order was lost. I asked about the food and we were told that it's coming. After another 30 min we were told that they are working on our order next and it'll be out soon. We were like ok sounds good and put in another order for drinks. The 2nd round of drinks come but still no food. The waitress walks by with other orders of food but not ours. The table next to us gets their food and they had ordered 30min after we ordered. We asked about our food and she said it's next. Well... We see her come out with other food and bring it to other people, who arrived after us so we ended up walking out. I dropped some money to pay for the drinks even though I didn't want to. I understand if they are busy, but the frustration comes from being told the food is ready soon over and over, and then it never coming. We won't be back and there are better places in Red Lodge to try. read more

Our first stop on our mountain week-long getaway. This place is home to several good beers and some very nice ciders as well, and has a fairly large menu. It's a big space with a view of the brewing area inside and an outdoor area that we didn't take advantage of either time we were here. The staff were friendly and both meals were delivered efficiently. Once we were asked to order at the bar and on the other occasion there was table service. Both times we weren't given silverware which was a little odd. The meals each time were fine; not particularly noteworthy but the potential sure is there. I was hoping the pulled pork tacos would pull together a bit better than they did but they were pretty bland despite the accompaniments. The coleslaw with the BLT was my favorite - great flavor and I would have loved more! It was great pulling into town and being able to put together our own six pack of the beers/ciders that we enjoyed with our meal. It looks like they are building a brand new space and we hope to come back someday and check it out! read more

Try their ciders! This place is pretty great - they offer a wide variety of award winning beers, in a fun brew pub environment with a nice indoor seating area, and a good looking outdoor area, with a big expansion that seems to be coming soon! My favorite thing about this place was their cherry cider- they are doing great things with their beers. They sell a bunch of different IPAs, and cleverly named beers. Wanna see how the beers are made? There's a window that lets you peer into the brew house and check out what's going on in there. They welcomed children here, as long as they're well behaved. We saw what looked to be a children's birthday party gearing up while we were just leaving. We saw the bartender serve up root beers to the kids, which were quite well received. They sell a limited amount of merch here. I got a sticker, but they could've improved their selection! The staff was friendly. They assigned me a waitress, when I'd rather have gone to the bar, but it wasn't busy and the waitress was on the ball. She knew her beers, and was able to answer questions about what they're brewing. They seem to offer a bunch of different seasonal brews. Parking was easy, with a private lot. The brewery/cidery is a bit outside of town on the north side of town. read more

Let me preface this with the notion that I am really rooting for these guys, but they need a wake up call. We had an experience here last weekend where every 5 minutes we kept chuckling thinking it couldn't get much worse and it just kept getting worse. Unfortunately, this has been the trend for us here over the last year or so of patronage. Upon arrival, it seemed like our server was understaffed during the poker run, but after about 15 minutes we saw several other servers buzzing around so the delay in service was not due to that. During each phase of our stay we waited longer than average to receive beers and at one point we just walked into the bar to get them ourselves. Nobody is a fan of running dry on beer and having to serve yourself. When it came to the food my two friends ordered burgers which are small (not large enough for a normal adult with a moderate appetite) and were overcooked to the point they should've been embarrassed to serve them. My wife ordered the veggie melt that had absolutely no melt and was quite cold. I ordered the club which is not really a club, but more like something you would throw hastily together at home. Don't ask for tomato, lettuce, or onion because apparently they don't serve it that way and won't. Do you like french fries with your club? Nope not today buckaroo you get to have slaw or an oddly out of stock chip selection. While the club was tasty enough even they give credit to the local supplier of bread and meat and not of their culinary expertise. We didn't receive ANY condiments for our burgers or sandwiches nor any silverware. Maybe going for the primitive minimalist approach to food service which would explain the "to-go-bag" we had to use (see photo). My wife asked for a to-go box and was told they only had foil and would bring it out shortly. It never arrived with each server stating the other server was bringing it. We ended up using two of our discarded chip bags to wrap it end to end to get it home. In a nut shell each of our normal requests was met with what seemed to be a counter offer of substantially lower desirability. It got to the point it was humorous, but sad because we have always loved this place as a layover on the way home after a good hike. That love feels more like a fond nostalgia of the better days we had once known... I would like to say we will go back, but it's just been one let down after another. read more

Was nearby (in Red Lodge, MT) and decided to stop by (glad I did). I had some great tastings of their beers (Gutsy liked several). Really liked the Helio, Summer Daze, and Flathead Cherry Cider. They rotate different beers in about quarterly. They have been operating for over 24 years. Sam (female) served me and made sure I had all I needed. I also had the Pastrami Reuben (very tasty) with coleslaw). I was not hungry enough, but was able to see a pretzel and beer cheese (Jack's 90). The pretzel was great per person eating it. They have an Oktoberfest (start of September). If you are nearby, give it a try. Enjoy! read more

First time here and was a great relaxed atmosphere. We ate inside but the outdoor patio looked pretty inviting on a cool, sunny day. Our table had the pastrami Ruben, Philly cheesesteak, Cubano & Sam burger. We were all very satisfied with our meals and the cold brews on tap were on spot. Great waitress when we got there but after our initial order was taken we never saw her for 45 minutes and only because she brought us our food... after first taking it to the wrong table! I get that she was busy but I watched her go to her other tables multiple times, and when I tried to make eye contact for another drink she'd look away! When our food finally arrived It was not good for that long of a wait! Had it been amazing I wouldn't have cared but it was all we could do to get it down and get out of there! My sandwich was so bland and boring and my boyfriends was soggy and disgusting. I used to be a fan but next time (if there is a next time) I'll only go for a beer and be done. read more

I stopped in with my wife and two friends this afternoon after a hike. We sat outside. It was busy, and from what we could tell there initially was only one server assigned the entire business. Addressing this first, there was quite a lot of time between each check in from her, which eventually ended up with us going inside and approaching the bar to order our second beers. Said server was behind the bar and poured our pints. Based off of that and the aforementioned wait times, we assumed the place understaffed. Secondly, the food was just bad. My wife and I ordered the SamBurgers, our two friends got sandwiches. One of those sandwiches, a cold hoagie, was apparently good enough, though this was likely attributed to the source of its deli meat: a different business cited on the menu as its meat supplier. The other, assumed a melt, arrived cold. A square of what appeared to be the sort of processed-style cheese you'd fine individually sleeved was unmelted inside. The owner of the latter advised she'd be better off taking it home and baking it in the oven, but when she asked another server, (relief had finally arrived at this point), for a to-go box, she was told they only had foil. It was agreed that that would be fine, but the foil was never delivered. The sandwich was then placed in an empty potato chip bag for transport. My burger was overcooked. Bland. My wife's was worse. She only ate a couple bites and then set it aside so that she could send it back. She needed a server for that, however, which we didn't see for some time, so she gave up and asked me if I wanted it. I shrugged, took a bite, winced, and pulled back the bun. It was black and bone dry. The only moisture was in the lettuce. At first I was only disappointed - I've been supporting this business since it was Sam's Tap Room and I don't want to see it limping - but the more we talked about it the more frustrated we got. My burger was a bad enough, but to think that someone in that kitchen thought it acceptable to kick out an obvious hockey puck is absolutely insane. Either someone back there cooking is completely clueless, or they don't care about their work. Either way, someone should have intercepted that thing and told them to do it right. Which didn't happen. What happened was we paid for what we were given. I'm writing this review because I care about RLA and I want it to be better. This isn't the first time we've had a bad experience there and I want to see it fixed. Good luck, you guys. *6/10/21 update. One of the friends I was with also wrote a review and included a photo of the potato chip to-go bag. RLA decided to use that as their banner photo for their Yelp page. I'd initially given the business a 2-star review to be fair, but after their childish response to a valid and completely justified review of a poor experience? A group of 5 of us came in. The waitress took our drink order but only took 2 out of the 4 adults orders, she walked off. The second time she came back she took beer orders and still ignored the other two adults. Never asking what they wanted and walking off before anyone could say anything. Finally, we got her attention and she got all of our orders. We ordered an appetizer, 4 entrees and a kids meal for my 2.5 year old. We waited and waited. Our appetizer came out with the food, most of it was cold. My chicken nachos were burnt in a lot of places, making it taste like burnt popcorn. The drinks were great! Just awesome beer... Loved the Mystery Machine and the Bent Nail, the Montandy Shandy and Flathead Cherry cider were great too according to my wife and uncle. It was a busy day and the food took a while to come out but the service was extremely accommodating and the food was great once we got it.
