if you're traveling i90 and are hungry and close to columbus mt. get to the bearstone cafe asap. my first visit made my whole day. the waitress/hostess was friendly, cordial and welcoming. the decor blew me away and i'm from montana. the bear theme and displays, pictures etc fit the restaurant perfectly. the menu was simple and everything looked so good and reasonably priced! i chose the papa bear omelette with french toast bacon and hash browns! wowser!!! it was incredible! great never ending coffee and water and great followup service. i am impressed and i am picky. cannot wait to go back and try the eggs benedict. maybe this weekend...and then again monday read more

Cute little breakfast spot. Based off other reviews I wasn't sure what to expect but the food and service were great. The Mexican omelette was delicious and so were the pancakes. Food was alright but had an awful experience here. A young family walked in, some of which were black, and they were told every single table was reserved. Immediately after, two white members of the same group came in (who didn't come in the first time) and were seated immediately. Making our way across Montana and wanted a killer breakfast....we found it! The Grizzly Bearitto was huge and so good. I usually stop in here whenever I see my mom in Columbus. I like this place for breakfast. The atmosphere has bears all over and reminds me of the cool, family owned restaurants you find in Montana. The food is always good. I have ordered the chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, omelets and a cheeseburger before and always leave filled up and satisfied. The service and employees are always friendly to me. Sometimes have to remind them to give me a refill on my soda but nothing bad. They are usually busy so the service is a little slow but to be expected and gives them time to cook the food good. I wouldn't go here if you are in a super hurry but if you just want a relaxing breakfast or lunch this is a great place to go. I recommend this restaurant and will continue to stop in whenever I am in town. read more

Not going back, not even to update review. Not sure what was happening when we arrived on a Sunday at approx. noon. It took 7 minutes to get seated in this very small cafe, even while 4 empty tables sat. Another 10 to get an order in and another 30 minutes for our food. We were there a little over 65 minutes for a quick bite to eat. While it was clean, so is McDonalds down the street. The food here is very good diner food. They have about eight different breakfast options, and then about 10 different lunch specials. Husband had the BLT and said it was the best one ever. I had a brisket French dip and it was delicious. Unfortunately, it took at least 45 minutes for us to get our food. The owner/waitress was extremely apologetic. She said that a whole bunch of people all showed up at the same time but I think there's problems in the kitchen. Best breakfast anywhere!! Great staff, cooks were friendly and knowledgeable. Kitchy decore made to make you smile but the food is the real story. The potatoes and veggies were all hand cut. Ham had a slightly smoked flavor but not over powering. My wife had a Denver omelette with hashbrowns. I had eggs Benedict with O'Brien potatoes which were perfectly done. Potatoes for both had a slight crunch and still had a fluffy inside.. perfect. Eggs were not runny and the yolk texture was perfect. Hollandaise sauce was creamy and didn't overpower the rest of the meal. It melded perfectly with the ham and eggs. I enjoyed the fact that it was different from my style of cooking yet very enjoyable. I gave the cooks a cheer and they cheered back. The waiting staff was super friendly and very efficient. We were served fed and checked out in a very reasonable amount of time. Coffee wasn't very strong but pleasantly aromatic and didn't overpower the meal. $15 for the special but the whole menu is reasonably priced. On Saturday February 19 2022, I took my 88 year old veteran dad here to eat. He can barely walk even with a walker. He lives at an assisted living facility in Columbus Montana. We had eaten there before and everything was good. This second time just after we sat down, we were again served by a the man who is the owner. I know this because his wife who took my payment told me so after asking her. My dad who can barely hear, was just joking around when he asked "are you our waitress, where's your skirt?". The owner said "if it was up your a_ _ you'd know it". My dad didn't hear him, but if he had I would have come unglued. I let it go but only tipped $3. I don't think I'll take dad back there again. You don't say that to a customer who's just joking around. Especially an 88 year old who can hardly walk and wearing a hat with veteran status on it. read more

Came in last week from California. Extremely welcoming even though we are from the worst state in the nation. All of the staff was super friendly and gave us great service. Wife and I both had ham and cheese grilled sandwiches/soup. The bread was done perfect (Not soggy but not dry) and the sandwiches tasted great. You can see right into the kitchen and the cooks appeared to be having a great time and were working fast. I am giving 2 stars based on the food which wasn't bad. If I was to rate this place on service, I couldn't find a star. My wife and I walked in and took a seat as the sign said. The decor was nice as the chairs appeared to have been acquired at a BWW garage sale. It was very clean. A waitress seated us and brought coffee. That was the last time she came to the table. Another waitress took our order. My wife ordered something similar to the special, but not the special. This apparently confused the waitress. My wife reached for the menu to point out what she wanted at which point the waitress actually pulled the menu away and said "I know what you meant". 25 minutes later the food came. That was the only redeeming part of the visit. We watched 2 gentlemen take their seats and then leave as they hadn't even been acknowledged for over 10 minutes. Decent food? Yes. Service? We stopped while traveling through towards Gillette from a family vacation in Yellowstone. We found Bearstone Cafe on Google maps and decided to stop for a quick lunch. The service was friendly, quick, and efficient. The menu has quite a bit of variety for a cafe and features all day breakfast (but go early if you want a giant cinnamon roll!). It's obvious the food is homemade and it was just amazing! The prices were reasonable as well.... The owner takes pride in her business and was working her tail off while we were there. Didn't love this place. First of all it said "seat yourself" so we did. We sat there for 10 minutes. They were busy so it was fine but they didn't say one word to us. Not "we will be right with you" or anything. It was so irritating. I went up to the register and the lady was like "sorry as you can see we are slammed!" Uhh yeah I see that but we have been sitting here for 10 minutes and you have ignored us. Then she brought my order out wrong and it ended up being charged like $12 for French toast and bacon when I originally ordered the platter that was $9.95 and came with French toast, bacon, sausage AND eggs. I wouldn't say the French toast was good or bad it was just meh. My husband got the corn beef has and he didn't mind it but it was really small. The bacon was SUPER salty. We won't be back. McDonalds breakfast is better in my opinion and WAY cheaper. read more

Good food and plenty of it! The restaurant was clean - which is high on my list if I give a 5 star rating. Our server was friendly and efficient. Our order came out hot and as ordered. The portions were large. I ordered the special loaded hash browns and the were cooked perfectly. The potatoes were lightly crispy and it was full of cheese, meat and veggies.
