I had been there a few years back but had a bad experience so I stopped but I decided to try it again since it was on my way home that day. But I regret going there. Visiting from California and felt like I needed a manicure fill before New Year's Eve. So I looked up all the nail shops in Richfield and this was the closest to my location. Didn't call in advance for an appt and just walked in. It was pretty busy already by 10 am but I was seated right away. Upon entry, all the technicians AND patrons were wearing masks, which is a good sign. There are plenty of pedicure chairs and manicure seats to accommodate a lot of guests at once. The facility itself was clean and my technician was careful and I didn't feel rushed like in some places I've been to before as a walk-in. I find that I usually come here when I am trying to support local businesses but lately I have become a regular. Initially, I couldn't get over the prices of their service but it appears their prices are pretty much the norm around here. I realized quickly that the best advice for nails came from the owner, Tony. I suggest making an appointment with Tony if this is your first time visiting. Otherwise, your service might be hit or miss. There is another lady in there that does decent pedicures ( I will update this review once I ask her name...again). Also, this might be a coincidence but I have found that Friday afternoons are the least busy time to get serviced. Currently, due to construction, this isn't the easiest place to navigate but don't let that stop you from visiting. Red Nails and Spa is located in a shopping center at the corner of 66th and Lyndale Ave, next to Petco. This happens to be one of the only places I have found in the area that does liquid gel and has the clear tip nails that I like. I prefer liquid gel since it is lightweight. And the clear tips are cool if you don't use color on your nails. If you carry cash, they offer a couple dollars discount. My first impression was a good one. I had been a client here in the past and it was as I remembered it. The salon was very clean and well-kept. I was able to get in for a pedicure and the service was pretty routine until the polishing phase. The application was at first streaky, then globby with polish left behind on my cuticles. I've been going here for a few years for manicures and pedicures (both gel and regular polish) and I always found the staff to be friendly, services okay and most important it is clean. New files and clearly sterilized equipment for each patron. It is conveniently located across the street from my gym which is how I first found them. After a few months away I recently went back in for a gel manicure because I had an important client meeting coming up. I don't know what changed but during I felt the technician was rushing and skipping steps, but maybe things had changed as it had been a few months so I didn't say anything during the service. Bad news - my nails started chipping the very next day and two days after the manicure one entire nail peeled off while I was scrubbing my hair in the shower. Guessing that those skipped steps were important after all. One of the reasons I love gel manicures is I know my nails will look great for at least 5-7 days and sometimes up to 2.5 weeks.
