My daughter and I went to this restaurant because I had a buy one get one free coupon. I had a salad and she ordered a sandwich. The service was slow even though they were not busy. When our good came my daughter immediately picked up the huge pile of pickles on her plate. Under the pickles, swimming in the juice was a fly. When we alerted the waitress she shrugged and said "that's just a fruit fly". She did make my daughter another sandwich, which she did not eat. It was a bad experience and we will never go to that restaurant again. I understand that these things can happen but the waitresse's nonchalant reaction was a total turn off. Came here for breakfast with the family, and it's basically your standard fare. The only difference is the prices, as they have a huge breakfast special (two eggs, hash browns, toast, bacon or sausage, big portions) for under $4. Definitely a great deal for breakfast. The also have a lunch deal for $5, but didn't find out exactly what that was. In any case, $4 for a big breakfast is hard to beat. read more

Ordered Greek plate and it was a large plate of food but not good at all. Very upset with their customer service. Had a takeout order and forgot things in the order I realized after getting all the way home. I called to see what they could do and they told me my only option was I could drive back up (10 min each way) to pick up the stuff THEY forgot or eat it without it. The lady manager is so rude, super disrespectful. We walked in for our reservation for a wedding party early and she loudly said 'You're like an hour early' and is storming around like it's a huge inconvenience even though the restaurant is dead. She was loudly complaining to the employees about us being early in a very unprofessional manner and the whole entire restaurant can hear. Red Olive has a variety of foods between dinners, sandwiches, and breakfast. Sandwiches do not come with a side, so they can get pricey. My husband and I stopped in for breakfast today. Casual family place. Kinda like a coney island restaurant, but not. We had breakfast there one morning and the server was nice and attentive, the food was good, and the prices were not too high. I was very surprised to see some of the extremely negative reviews for Red Olive so I felt like I had to write my own. Some of these people must have been having terrible days. Especially A.T. who referred to the food at all the tables around him as over-cooked slop. Red Olive is not Morton's Steakhouse. It's a coney island. And it's a good coney island. Their gyro Greek salads are the best and contrary to some of the other posts, they use quality meat that is better than other coneys that I've been to. Don't let the negative posts stop you from trying this place. Formulate your own opinion after giving them a whirl. read more

My first experience with Red Olive was their location in Clawson. When traveling west to Walden Woods campground, I was pleasantly surprised to see this place, and excited to learn that they were affiliated. I wasn't however graced with the same product. While still good, it left a little to be desired. The food didn't seem as fresh as I remembered at their Clawson location. I just remember piping hot omellets with super fresh ingredients. My omellet on this visit was good, nothing spectacular...I did have to send my hash browns back...as I DO NOT understand the need to fry the hell out of these so that hardly any potatoe exists, only a burnt mess...Ugh..I seriously get annoyed when I'm dining with friends who insist on getting their hash browns well done...I have to pipe up... "I don't want mine well done" because I know mine will somehow get lumped in with their messes... I kinda wish we would've visited the little coney diner that is closer to the campground instead... But in a pinch Red Olive works, and all in all, you'll probably have good eats here...and I'd go back! read more

I love this place. My husband and I both love Coney style Mediterranean food and this place does it well. They also have excellent salads but they are huge and can easily be shared by 2 people. My family and I used to frequent Red Olive fairly regularly since they opened. However, the quality of their food and the cleanliness of the restaurant itself has gone way down. I last went a month ago and was surprised at how dirty the place has gotten. Dirty walls, booths, floors and water glasses (mine also had several lemon seeds in it although no lemon). Their weekday breakfast specials are a good deal, but I can't get over the dirtiness enough to bring myself to eat there again. Service is usually okay. They've retained a core group if the same waitresses over the years and most are pretty good. read more

I don't relate to the bad experience of the earlier review at all, but find it interesting it ended in an advertisement for another restaurant? We've been regulars since Red Olive opened in Hartland and have always found the service and food to be top notch. Their mediteranean food (Greek and mideast) are as good as any acclaimed specialty reataurant in the Detroit area. Lemon rice soup, stuffed grape leaves, spinach pie, hummos, falafil, kebab, moussaka, etc, are tasty and authentic. They have a huge salad entree menu and their salads are crisp and fresh. We've enjoyed all their house made soups, chicken noodle being a personal favorite. Their breakfasts are hot and delicious, with some reasonably priced specials. Their sandwiches (burgers, gyros, etc) are hot and juicy, and their fries crisp on the outside and piping hot on the inside. They do have the mushy, not so tasty green beans many restaurants like this are famous for, but beyond that, I have no complaints. The place is beautifully decorated and clean. We've always gotten quick service with a smile and they are eager to please and make substitutions. As you can tell, I've been there many times because my family loves the place. So happy to have a good and reasonably priced restaurant in Hartland. read more

In August, my mother fell in this restaurant. She lost consciousness and sustained 2 fractured ribs, a severe sprain to her wrist and multiple face contusions. A call was placed to 911 and an ambulance came and transported my mother to a nearby hospital. As most medical insurance claims go, my mothers insurance company needs to contact the restaurant and their insurance company in order to process and pay the claim. My father and I attempted to leave our personal information with the restaurant for their incident report, but they refused to even take it. We expressed our regret for the incident, and assured them that we had no intentions of any legal matters, but that the medical insurance company would require information and a report. They have not filed any reports with an insurance company and refuse to speak with us or with my mothers insurance company. I can only assume that they do not carry the required liability insurance, and if you eat, or even enter at this or any of their 12 restaurants, you do so at your own risk! read more
