The food was simple but perfect. Red pepper was recommended to me and my work partner by our supervisor who used to live in the area and told us it would be the perfect lunch spot. Boy was she right. Immediately walking in we were greeted even though staff were busy putting food together for others. The service received was prompt, polite and communicative. Being we weren't even remotely from the area (I personally live in St. Paul, MN) we were informed of all the options and were given time to make decisions. I got the taco burger, two soft shell tacos, chips and cheese just to start. Once we were getting ready to leave i also ordered one of the everything grinder to go! Down in the southern part of the USA, the taco trucks are the best place to get fresh, hot tacos. You walk away knowing you had something worth jangling the coin purse over. The taco trucks are my gold standard. But, if you live in the land of designer Mukluks, you gotta conclude that taco trucks are going to be few and far between. But, there's a couple shops up along the ol' Red River of the North who can get you a tight taco that fits a tight wallet. Red Pepper is who I'm talkin' about. This place is everything I like when I gotta crash land my appetite. Listen. This place isn't going to win many awards. It's a hole-in-the-wall hash house that ain't exactly caterin' to the Rockefellers. But, let me tell you something. You don't get rich by givin' it away. So, drop into Red Pepper so you don't dent up your retirement accounts. Red Pepper has a tiny menu. That's a great sign to me because a person can't serve multiple masters. They do taco stuff, and they do that pretty well. They have a couple grinders, a couple tacos, and salads. I tried the Everything Grinder, a soft taco, and a hard taco (not all at one time, though, or I would have killed myself). I wasn't unhappy either time I visited. Now, I know that Red Pepper ain't gonna be everyone's cup of taco sauce. That goes without sayin'. Look, I get it. You like Red Pepper. Maybe you go to college and you have 2 bucks in change and this place lets you eat like a human being for that price. Maybe their simplistic menu stands out to you. They are cheap and they are quick. Two things I love in a business. But still, seems like they are lacking a bit in the taste department. My wife and I both got enchiladas and tacos. I wish I could give you an indepth report of the intricacies of their flavors, but I can not. I assume they used Old El Paso Red Enchilada sauce on it. cause that was the taste I got. Great for the price, but I will never crave this food. It fills a need in my wallet. but I can get comparable food at Taco Bells value menu. I will say this, I like their salsa. Its sweet and different and unlike other local salsas I have had. Stands out and being something I can recognize them for. So good job their guys. You did something. And let me just finish by saying this, the novelty of not having forks is lost on me. I gave the Red Pepper a couple tries before I gave them a review. I will say when you walk in the door you might think "this place might be a unique treasure". The decor is pleasant and menu is small which often is a sign that they may have perfected a handful of menu items. In their minds they may think they have. One thing you will find is the use of the microwave. There is nothing on the menu that should or needs to be microwaved. If you go to their own website they even claim their hot dogs are "microwaved to perfection". Right there that should be enough reason to have a person make another choice. The meat on the cony dog is neither chili or sloppy joe mix. They call it mexi meat, but there is nothing Mexican about it. On a positive note, the portions are good sized and are presented well. The menu is priced right. They brag about being around since 1961. It is 2016. It is time to look past what was acceptable back then and look to what current pallets are expecting. read more

I just wanted to let you know my terrible service experience at your north Fargo location today. The dark haired gal with glasses was the worst person I have ever dealt with as far as customer service I have ever received. I ordered my lunch and asked her for Taco sauce and she stated we only have 2 bottles and walked away, I then asked her if I could get some and she stated we only have 2 bottles, so no! I walked to my booth and had seen 1 red bottle on the table that customers were sitting at and that was it. She then was out in the booth area, and I asked her again for taco sauce and I also stated that there was only one bottle seen. She said oh, I stated can I get some and she stated if I wanted to come up to the counter again she would try to find one, I did not say anything more at that point. I ate my lunch and left. I will never go back to your store again! I grew up in the GF area and Red Pepper was always a favorite spot, not any more. I will list this note on yelp and other customers can judge for themselves. I don't believe the words gourmet or pretentious were ever meant to describe the Red Pepper. The Red Pepper is excellent, if for no other reason than the memories of growing up in North Dakota and the ties to UND, the Fighting Sioux and of campus tradition that it brings back just walking in the door. Don't forget to leave your mark on the booth. Authentic Mexican food 20+ years ago in ND was nonexistent, this was what you could get (or Mexican Village, Paradiso etc. see a trend; authentic, no - crave able, hell yes!) If you don't "get" the no fork thing, the microwave ovens (which believe it or not are used in almost every commercial kitchen, as well as in your home) the relatively inexpensive menu and simple ingredients then you probably aren't the target customer. Life's too short - relax, grab a bottle of red sauce and drench that tostada, hard or soft shell, or grinder and enjoy it for what it is. If authentic Mexican fine dining is what your looking for, this ain't it.
