I stayed at the Hidden Mountain cabin. Positives: -Beautiful spacious cabin!!! Simply gorgeous inside and out. -Amazing view! -Quiet and peaceful! -Has a King size bed upstairs and twin bed downstairs. 2 full baths. Nice living room furniture. Ninja coffee maker with built in filter (so you do NOT need to bring your own filters). :) -Bed was very comfortable! -Had cell phone reception for Verizon and AT&T. -Dish Network. Negatives: -Very dusty throughout (ceiling fans, floor boards, pictures, etc) -The valve for the bubbles on the hot tub was missing so the tub made a loud noise when running. -Only 1 regular eating spoon in kitchen drawer. -You only get one towel, washcloth, and hand towel per person. -The bed pillows were pitiful lol. They were so tiny and barely had any stuffing or support in them. I WOULD come back to this same cabin with the following tips: -Bring a towel for the hot tub, a towel for your hair, and an extra wash cloth -Bring a blanket for the bed if you run on the chilly side (none provided...just sheet and thin comforter) -If you are staying for more than 3 nights, bring your own bar soap for the shower (the bar given is small and thin...I ended up using liquid hand soap on my last day there). -Bring some plastic eating utensils -Bring your own bed pillows -No wifi to connect to, so if you want to run Netflix, you will have to connect the TV to your phone's hot spot (bring your passwords!) -You need an SUV or truck to get up to the cabin because it is so steep. I don't see how a car could make it. Overall, I had a wonderful stay!

Rented Sunset canyon cabin - the name of the cabin lived up to its word providing 2 nights worth of spectacular sunsets overlooking the Daniel Boone forest ! The cabin was cute very log cabin decor , nice air condition, kitchen fully stocked with cooking utensils . It has a spiral staircase with 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths. Very clean ! The hot tub on the deck is very nice ! Really enjoyed our stay was very peaceful and quiet with a lot of privacy which was exactly what we were looking for . The couch in the living room could use replacing no support when you sit in it - sinks in. Aldo there's several stair steps to get down into the cottage , other than that this place was perfect !

ZERO STARS! This place is disgusting. I've never stayed in a place where it looks like they just put new linens in an dirty cabin and left it as is. Floors weren't swept, kitchen drawers disorganized with mouse droppings in them, trash under the kitchen sink, windows streaked with handprints, showers with soap scum in the tub, bases of the toilet covered with urine, the oven looks like something exploded and burnt in it. A pitiful excuse for a cabin rental company who wants to charge you a arm and leg to stay but can't even properly clean a cabin.

We visited Red River Gorge in September of 2022 and stayed in the Cliffside yurt. The booking was easy as well as the instructions for accessing the yurt. It had a full kitchen, bathroom and hot tub! The yurt is back away from the street so it's quiet and private. There wasn't a view from the balcony/patio like we expected, though. It would be helpful if they cut down some of the branches in order to see put into the distance/the pretty view. The only other thing I would recommend is for the company to do updates to the hot tub. There was visible wear and tear but nothing that stopped me from enjoying it!

STAY AWAY!!! Two words, BED BUGS!!! My friends wanted a nice bachelorette getaway at the gorge, and rented a cabin from them. Well, when they woke up, they found the cabin was infested with bed bugs!!! The owners downplayed it, like it wasn't a big deal. They moved them to another cabin, that had filthy dirty sheets, garbage under the beds, and dead flies on the beds as well. They soldiered through, and made the best of it, but it really left them all disappointed...

the lighting for the hot tub

Terrible. Hot tub -dirty and in a dark area with zero light next to the edge of the hill with hazardous holes near the edge both my wife and I tripped in. appliances- gas fireplace-stopped working 2 days in dishwasher-broken MASSIVE floor damage for the foundation of the house-feels like it is about to crack in half-and multiple stops where you almost fall through the failing floorboards-half of the cabin is on a lean that is noticeable to make you feel drunk even when sober. Leaving a day early as it's worse to stay another night with the mattress hurting my wife's and my back.

We were greeted at the entry by an enormous "TRUMP 2020 Make America Great Again" banner, leaving my girlfriend and I wondering if the business owners support the Trump/Pence administration's homophobic beliefs and if same-sex couples such as ourselves are welcome and safe here . Then the directions to get to the site were totally out of date and sent us on a wild goose chase down some heavily potholed gravel roads. Luckily, things improved from there. The cabin was sparkling clean, hot tub (wooh!) was warm and ready to go, bed was fine. Fully equipped kitchen was a bonus. The TV had Netflix on it for the end of an exhausting day. I didn't see any signs of rodents or black mold like other reviews mentioned. My biggest discomfort was the lack of curtains on the front walls of the cabin: you can see the inside of the living room, dining room, and kitchen from the street.

    Non smoking!

Stayed one week in the Almost Heaven cabin with 12 people. By the third day of our day we noticed that the sump pump wasn't properly draining. Management was alerted and they said it was fine and downplayed the issue. The next day our basement flooded, they send a maintenance man who said he couldn't fix the issue without getting into a locked closet with a key he didn't have. 8 people had to drive 30 minutes to the lodge to borrow showers and bathrooms because we weren't able to use any running water without flooding the cabin. He came back the next day "fixed" it and assured us it was fine. The two days later the basement flooded again but this time with the distinct smell of sewage everywhere. They moved us to the Red River Gorge INN and refused to reimburse any of the costs or the trouble given. The first room given was full of smoke and the door had to be propped open for 15 minutes before we could even walk in. We walked to ask an employee for help and a room change since this is a NON SMOKING ESTABLISHMENT and found the employee smoking. She said that housekeeping smokes as well so they have no idea when the room smells of smoke. We were moved to another room for the 3rd time this stay. All around terrible experience with this company, issues that could have been fixed simply with a more responsive team and one that actually responded to alarming issues with appropriate alarm. Such as a cabin flooded with raw sewage.

Dirty Dishes we found in cabinet
    Syd F.

Horrible cleanliness ESPECIALLY DURING COVID the fans were dusty as hell. Lots of dirty food residue on the dishes and hot tub was gross the head rests were deteriorated most of the outside lights were in need of a new bulb. We told the team about our experience and they very much seemed disinterested to a point they didn't even take their heads away from their computer screen to even acknowledge us, and honestly seemed like they could careless about our experience or even to offer a refund or another night to change our experience. I'll never go back here, they really should have tried to offer us a night to fix this horrible experience.

One would never think that such a unique and beautiful cabin could be found in the middle of the thickest woods and hollers of eastern Kentucky. Nestled in the Appalachian mountains, The General's Cabin offers a panacea for all of your worldly worries and concerns. The soundtrack of my daily life which consists of consistent questions from my child, the tension built up in my shoulders from driving in morning traffic and the demands of bills, birthday parties and work melt away with a quick walk down to the lake that's located on the property, a nature hike on the path that winds around the farm and a morning coffee taken on the front porch while listening to the wild birds that populate the woods. Highlights: 1. Remote and tucked away from the road. If you're looking for solace and quiet, this is your spot. There's about 40 acres of forest surrounding the cabin so you're afforded plenty of solitude. 2. Close to national parks and on the edge of the Daniel Boone Forest. It's a great spot to set up camp if you're headed to do some rock climbing or hiking at the Red River Gorge. 3. Everything you need is in the cabin! The cabin comes stocked with washing machine, dryer and laundry detergent! There's a full-sized fridge and freezer for all of your needs and a stove and range to cook or bake whatever you like. There's a coffee maker and grounds. 4. Good shopping nearby! We picked up groceries from the closest big city, Lexington on the way to the cabin - there's a Whole Foods and a co-op there that you can stock up for food. And there's the fabulous Liquor Barn where we grab baguettes from Bluegrass Bakery and cheeses, cakes and olives and wine galore. If you're ever in need of anything extra, there's a big Kroger in nearby Stanton, so no worries there! There's also an affiliated cabin across the road that provides whole multi course meals in their space, complete with wines, appetizers, main courses and desserts and even a cheese course, if you so prefer! 5. Clean and courteous. The cabin is well-maintained and the interior is comfy and well-appointed. I love the large stone fireplace and the cozy couches and chairs. It's the perfect spot to read through your stack of magazines and for kids to play in nature. The owners, Joy and Mike, left a note and some fresh flowers, which was a welcomed touch! One would expect that a cabin so remote in location would have issues with critters but I was pleasantly surprised at how tight and secure the house seemed when we visited. Despite the abundant wildlife outdoors, none of it made it inside. 6. Dogs welcome! We have a medium-sized dog that my child likes to take along on holidays and so we are always looking for accommodations that accept pets, and we were so happy to know that not only were Joy and Mike ok with us bringing our pooch along with us, they were very happy to welcome her! They mentioned that they've had many canine guests in the past and that it's never been an issue, which was a relief because vacation homes and especially ones that are so beautifully decorated often discourage dog owners from bringing dogs. 7. A fun loft space for kids! My son adores the loft space and happily set up camp up there. As soon as we walked through the doors, he spotted that loft and proceeded to climb the ladder, much to our surprise! He had us lug books and toys up there so he could "spy" on us from up there, which kept him entertained for hours. All in all, an amazing spot in the middle of the woods and one that's gorgeous and unique. I've stayed in many cabins that advertise peace and quiet and fail to deliver, but The General's Cabin did through and through. I wish we could stay for longer stretches but we will settle for returning for our annual trip back to Kentucky to visit family for our little get away from the chaos and grind of urban living. Hopefully one day, we will be able to spend a couple of weeks up there and to bring our friends to share in the joy of this corner of heaven.

Rustic and wilderness meets comfort and luxury at the end of the The General's Cabin road. We go for the amenities but we enjoy it due to the quiet, beauty, and nature. You don't have to leave the property to get it all but if you want there are hiking trails, waterfalls, bridges and an abundance of other things to see and do in the area.

It was through this search that we found the Birdsong cabin, managed by StayOver, in Slade, Ky. All in all, we were very happy with this cabin. It was clean, well stocked and generally as advertised. It ticked off all the boxes. I particularly loved the view from the patio. The management was also quick to respond when we had questions, such as what cooking utensils would be available in the kitchen. We had a couple of small hiccups, but each were quickly remedied. The entry code wasn't the code that given to us or the last four digits of my phone number, which I was also told it would be. But a quick call to the office fixed all of this. Also, we did not know ahead of time that there would be a one-room cabin in the backyard of this cabin. From the glass doors in front, we could see there was a bunkbed inside. We had wanted to get in the hot tub, which was not too far from this tiny house, but when we saw that the lights were on inside, we chose not to, lest a stranger come up and scare us. The only thing I would change would be including a mention of this house on the cabin listing. Again, these hiccups were small, and we would gladly stay at this cabin again or rent again from StayOver.

The whole place was built on a ledge that overlooked the tree filled hills of the red river gorge region . There was also a huge wrap around porch. I noticed they use a tennis ball with Lavender Oil for fabric softener. Lavender Oil is used to keep bed bugs away! I also noticed mattress covers wrapped in plastic. This was a red flag and unfortunately I ignored being so excited to have this opportunity. I still accepted the position not knowing how bad the bed bugs were! I moved there in August 2020 where I AGAIN picked up bed bugs. They were even in my car and the rental trailer I leased. I purchased pesticide and worked very hard to get rid of the bed bugs. I am highly sensitive and allergic to bed bugs. I was bitten inside the cabins when cleaning. I tried to come to some kind of agreement for preventative measures with Johnathon Hicks. He had my internet connection turned off then pretended he didn't. Even telling me to unplug and reboot KNOWING it was disconnected. I was 16 miles off the grind all alone with no connection. I had to drive in town to make a call to him. He told me to call their advocate Sharon Keefe to talk the issue over regarding the bed bugs. He told me to call her that day bc she was leaving for vacation the next day. He told me to go back home and unplug to see if I would have a connection. Again, while he ALREADY knew he had it turned off. So I went back to town to call Sharon when he sent a text saying he knew Sharon already left for vacation and they hired someone else! I have NEVER known any employer who would be this cunning and DECEITFUL. Why not just tell me instead of lying and having me run around. He did it on purpose! What immaturity! I was devastated! I had to move again after uprooting my life for this job! I moved back and ever since been fighting bed bugs since August 2020! I have now lost 3 beds and couches and so much more. Jonathon Hicks has denied any issues with bed bugs and completely ignores me. I now have a visible manifestation of the bed bugs. They have spread from the basement (where my br is) to the upstairs. BEWARE of bed bugs and take preventative measures. They do not effect everyone the same. But with people like me who are very allergic are tormented by bites.
