I had very high expectations for this cafe, which has a great local reputation for both its coffee and atmosphere. However, my experience was totally ruined by the rude employees and their distasteful attempt at customer service. My friend and I simply wanted to share a pot of tea, but they rudely refused to give us a second cup. We had to ask three times before they would deign to offer us a small paper cup, which was rudely slammed onto the counter. I would have loved to support this local coffee shop, but I will soon be returning to Starbucks - where I am at least treated with a smile and some respect. read more

I joined a colleague here about 3 months ago for an espresso. He insisted I try my first "third wave" coffee. They were offering an Ethiopian roast, described as hints of lime, strawberry, and citrus. It was all of that and more. The third wave barista runs a separate brew station with separate hours. I returned once to find out that station was not open. Nevertheless, I returned again and have enjoyed delicious third wave espresso each time. Great place for great coffee drinks. read more

I left an important work bag behind.at 2 pm and by the time I realized at 7 pm -- I was frantic. Oscar talked me down from the ledge. He would take a look Around and see if anything turned up. 30 mins later he called back to say I could come to pick it up. Nothing was missing, neither my work badge, nor power cords, nor important work thumb drives,.nor a.pair of white sapphire earrings (yes, long story). Like many people, we like to bring our laptops and grab drinks, then jump upstairs and study/molest the free internet access. The only thing we don't like about this place is the awful music they pipe onto the second floor. Are they trying to get us to leave? It's awful. Otherwise, the drinks are good, nice locaton, and you can't beat the free internet. read more

went here based on yelp reviews and liked it. coffee was very strong but exactly what i was looking for. they do some fancy art with the froth so that was nice. very busy place, lots of people . they have a seating area upstairs to manage the overflow. this place has lots of energy. a good place to have a meetup, business chat, casual cuppa or whatever. read more

I found a new gem! Red Rock serves the best coffee in Mountain View, and it's fair trade. They hold community events like book clubs, live local music, and children's hours. They're non-profit, which means they charge you Starbucks prices but donate the profits to international social causes, and there's a real feeling of community among the people working away on the free wi-fi. read more

Sorry guys, but I'm not a fan. I had high hopes because they get their coffee from Four Barrel in SF which is one of my favourite coffee shops, but maybe it's because they don't roast in house or because the barista aren't executing as superbly, but the coffee just falls flat. It just feels like an independent Starbucks to me. Coffee is just burnt or too sweet. Another turn off for me was that the Chai was made with the sugary syrup concentrate like "Oregan Chai". I could make this stuff at home for a quarter of the price, but I was hoping that they would have had legit Chai tea. It seems like the servers are always hit or miss, some are nice and some are rude and condescending. Apparently to previous posts, the manager/owner is not the most pleasant person. If the manager/owner can't even give pleasant customer service, then what kind of example does that set for the employees? Oh well, Dana st roasting blows this place out of the water and its a block away, ill stick with them. read more

Few places and experiences are better than the red rock café. It is so fun to be at the farmers market only to finish one morning off with a wonderful moment sitting with your lattes and your muffin and enjoying the lively conversation in the wonderful people. The red rock café is inspirational in a very very busy tech environment where people are very focused in changing the world for the better and if you look outside to see the best food grown in California that is glistening with with health. It's very reflective of Mountain View in general; and Mountain View truly is one of the most splendid places to spend time with whether working or whether studying weather just on a vacation for a few days enjoying the view. read more

I started coming to Red Rock when I moved up here over the summer. I work from home so I decided that I would be more motivated somewhere that I didn't have my usual distractions and Red Rock is great for that. There's tons of seating, free wifi, and just a nice atmosphere. I've also spent entire days there without anyone hassling me. The drinks are good and the baristas are friendly. As far as complaints go, I don't have much to say. The music is awesome, but sometimes is a little loud if you're trying to do work and the food is run of the mill coffee joint mediocre, though they do fresh baked cookies every afternoon that are pretty good. If you're looking for some good drinks and a nice place to relax, definitely check out Red Rock. read more

I go to Red Rock almost every day, and it is a wonderful place to park the laptop and get work done. Great atmosphere, friendly service, good wifi. The only beef I have is that sometimes the music played is so...annoyingly emo and slow and...just really, really grating. I normally tune the music out, but sometimes its just really, really nauseating and teeth grinding. I dunno, maybe I can't stand 20 somethings emo-ing out in some nauseating music, but I still love Red Rock! read more

My new fav cafe to relax, study and hang out surfing the net. They have free wi fi plenty of space and great baristas who serve up tasty espresso drinks with cool latte art! The mark of a good coffee house IMHO is talented baristas along with bonuses like live music. read more

from the times I have been there, the staff are not friendly at all, seem a bit snobbish. The espresso drinks are made sloppily, it is obvious that the workers don't drink espresso themselves. Coffee bean quality is substandard. I don't recommend it if you like coffee, but go there to write papers instead. read more

I used to like this place, but it's pretty crowded on the weekends & today the blonde at the counter didn't put my drink order in or give me a receipt. Then she apparently went off shift & left. In the 10 minutes I was waiting for my drink to materialize before I concluded something had gone wrong, someone else's drink came out wrong because it was entered incorrectly. That's one order screw-up every 5 minutes in my small sample size. The barista hooked me up, but gave me a little lecture on how I should ask for a receipt next time, because they are not supposed to give me what I ordered without one. Based on this reaction, I bet this happens reasonably frequently. So, if you go here, defend yourself against order fraud, cashier inattention, or whatever their problem is. I'm certainly sorry I left a tip, and I'll probably go somewhere else next time. read more

I just had the most delicious cappuccino. Perfectly frothed milk, with a rich, intense espresso.

First timer even though been in South Bay for a long time. Went for single serve. First no selection of light roast beans. Was told everything was medium roast and darker. Thought fine and went ahead. When I got my cup, two things immediately became obvious: the ceramic drip filter holder was not heated as the water temperature was between lukewarm and room temperature, and the amount of coffee grounds was insufficient as the taste was watery and bland. Probably one of the worst single-serve experience I ever had. Maybe one off case due to the lack of experience of the barista? At $6.5 including tips, it is not worth the risk for me to go back and find out. read more

I LOVE Red Rock. I fell in love with it about a year ago and ahve been there several times since. The coffee is pretty good and it's a great place to study, read a book, chat with friends, etc. They have great community programs and events like showing "Hard Day's Night" upstairs. It was awesome. My only complaint is that they need more outlets and need to turn down the music, I know that makes me sound old, but it's bad if I can't hear my own headphones over the speakers. Anyway, the baristas are awesome! A lot of them know me by now and come to chat on their breaks. If you want a cozy place with a modern black and red decor, this place is perfect. Besides if you get super hungry Kapps pizza and a sushi place are right next door. read more

My coworker and I come here almost every day for our mid-morning coffee fix. All of the employees are truly nice people, which always lends to a great experience. Their coffee is some of the best I've ever had--certainly the best in Mountain View; their chai is also the best I've found in the SF Bay Area (most places really water it down). Customer service was absent. My daughter ordered a coffee. I was looking at the unsmiling barrista, but she did not acknowledge me, just turned her back and got my daughter's drink. Then she looked annoyed when I ordered my drink before paying for my daughter's. I asked for a large, unflavored, unsweetened iced tea. After I paid, I tasted my tea, which was obviously not unflavored. I took it back and reminded the woman that I was hoping for unflavored, but it tasted like passion fruit. She said "It's mango. We don't have unflavored iced tea." She did not apologize for her mistake. I asked if I could have a cup of hot English Breakfast tea with a glass of ice on the side. She said she could give me a medium-sized glass of ice, not large. I asked if she could put ice in the large glass she had already given me. She said no, it is not allowed. I asked if I could talk to a manager. She looked around at the other three employees and said there was no manager on duty. I hope a manager reads this. I won't be going back. However my second iced tea, in a medium-sized glass, was nice and fresh, and my daughter liked her coffee, which is why I gave it two stars, not one. read more

Coffee is pretty good, but mostly go because its in a great location and has an awesome area upstairs for studying and what not.

The cappuccino is only one size which is perfect. Just the right strength. Better than Starbucks tall cappuccino.

$6.10 for a 20 oz large quad nonfat milk. I thought it'd be worth it to get the extra 2 shots versus $4.60 for a large double shot. Quite pricey and unfortunately not that good. For four shots, the flavor was quite weak. The flavor itself was darker, medium rounded/bodied but not complex (didn't have many different tones to it). The milk was steamed well though; nice and creamy with a good amount of rich-ish foam. Kind of like a more expensive version of the latte you can get at Whole Foods. read more
