Went here for $ burger night, staff was nice. Burgers were good. The gal waiting on us knew the guy I was with got distracted and began talking with him when talking my order. My burger didn't come with onions, or mayo as I would typically get. The tomato was a tad old. Bonuses are they have a dance floor, a bar & tables on the other side of the bar. The lights over the tables are dim-able. They can keep it fairly lit up during the day & set the mood by dimming the light in the evening. The dancing sounds fun too but I have yet to go on a night they have live music. I am able to make my own meals at home so it is nice when servers get my order correct and when the tomato hasn't become overripe though its perfectly safe to eat.

It's been a couple of years since I've been in during bar time, but I just recently returned for lunch to check out their $1 burger special. The menu is very simple - a single is $1, a double $2, and a triple $3. There are various sides for $3 (sweet potato tots, crinkle fries, cowboy beans, etc.) and mac & cheese for $4. Burgers are served medium-well to well done and come with American cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, and their special sauce. Ketchup, mustard, and three BBQ sauces are at your seat. I have to say that my burger was very good for a dollar. It reminded me somewhat of Burger King, but better quality. It's probably not going to blow your mind, but it is a fantastic deal for the price. For comparison, anything between $3-5 would seem right on target for the burger a la carte, and the quality is enough that I wouldn't question it if I had ordered it at an entree price. I shared the sweet potato tots and the Yukon Gold crinkle cut fries with my lunch parter. The sides are large and both were good, with the fries being the winner. The tots were a little soft (as sweet potato tots often are) and got to be a little too sweet in such a large quantity. The person who dropped my plate offered me a side of ranch, and when I hesitated he said it went really well with the tots. He was right, and the herbs of the ranch helped cut through some of the tots' sweetness. The main thing keeping me from bumping this up a star is the service. While the bartender was nice enough, it was so slow. Lunch is usually something you expect to get in and out of quickly during the week, but it took us nearly an hour. First, there was no one to greet us when we came in. Then, we sat at the unattended bar for close to five minutes. Someone, not the bartender, finally noticed we were there and brought us menus, but didn't take our order. After the bartender did return and took our order, the time to get our food was reasonable. Once the food was delivered, though, times we saw the bartender were few and far between. When he was there, it was difficult to get his attention. We were there starting at 1 PM, which isn't peak lunch, but also not so late that I wouldn't think it would be staffed. Maybe it was just an off day with students going back to school. I'm sure we'll be back again for the occasional affordable lunch, but next time I'll bring my laptop so I can work in the downtime.

Beef patty, chipotle cheese, mushrooms, onions and pickles. Put together on Wednesdays $1 burger.
    Sarrut O.

Wednesday $1 burger. Starts $1 for beef patty, $2 for grilled chicken or veggie. $1 for cheese. $1 for fried egg and $0.50 for most other toppings like sautéed mushrooms, caramelized onions, etc. Sides are and extra $3 which includes 5 cheese mac n cheese, beer battered fries, sweet potato tater tots and more. If you only order the $1 burger, they will charge $2.50 for water. So might as well get soda, or get upset that your "$1 burger night" has just become a "burger-on-any-other-night night." Food doesn't match what you pay for. And for people who aren't a fan of country music, you might feel that you're paying for more than those who are. Food was bland and extra greasy. Not the good greasy. I was hoping the grease meant nommy guilty butter and fat dripping down my face. Unfortunately, chancing the possibility of pimples on my face wasn't worth it. I am curious how often the mechanical bull actually gets put to use, such a prominent item in the bar/restaurant, more than the stage that has live performances, Friday and Saturday nights, that was tucked in the corner under low lights. The mechanical bull might be the reason why I go back...yeah...not really. Still a pretty new joint. We'll see if this country niche will keep the joint open.

    Mechanical bull....waiting for a rider.

My company rented out the whole place for a meeting, and it was my first time ever in the door- so my review peobably does not reflect day to day vibe. They have a decent selection of craft beer on tap, inlcuding Left Hand Milk stout and Fantasy Factory. The meal was a buffett of pulled pork, beef, sweet potato tots, veggies, and BBQ beans. The sweet potato tots anf BBQ beans were THE BEST. And, both meats were tasty and tender. This place has a mechanical bull...enough said.

I haven't been here for a county show or rowdy bar night, however, I can only reflect on the lunch I had on the only time I have been there. A Groupon motivated me to set foot in this bar/venue that I drive by almost daily. The staff was more than friendly, I was even given a up close and personal peak on the inner workings of the mechanical bull after I inquired about it. The smoked chicken was great! It had the essential pink smoke ring and was moist. Unfortunately, the beef brisket was overly dry and not too beefy. The pulled pork was good. I smoke meats on the regular and have no objection but the brisket was not top notch at the time it was pulled for the pit. But it being lunch time, these slices were from the previous day and had dried out. I noticed the meat's consistency and can almost vouch that it was probably good when it was fresh, by sorry guys. I will give them another try though because I see the skills. Maybe being early isn't the best time for them.

Great Dane Pub has become one of my favorite spots in Madison for a variety of reasons from the drinks, vibes, service and community support! Situated on the corner of Doty and King in downtown Madison, Great Dane is a welcome sight for any visitor or local looking for a chill spot to have a solid drink, tasty bite and/or a good time! The pub is one large space, but it is separated into a few unique areas. One side is quintessential pub with a long bar, lots of dark woods, and a good sized dining room. The other is more of a pool hall vibe where you will find the other side of the bar, several pool tables, lots of TV's, high tops, darts, etc...We have bellied up to both sides of the bar and while I like both sides, I prefer the vibe of the pub side. They have a fairly extensive food menu with several bar/pub classics such as wings, nachos and burgers. But they also offer a good variety of sandwiches, bowls, salads, soups and even tacos. While we are normally here for the drinks, we do enjoy the cheese curds, wings and poutine! Speaking of drinks, they always have a great menu of house cocktails that is constantly updated for seasonality. I have had several iterations of cocktails and since I visit a few times a year, I always get to try new seasonal cocktails and beers! Service is always stellar here, no matter what side of the bar you are on. Welcoming, friendly and helpful...every time! Overall, I am an absolute fan of The Great Dane Pub!

The menu is filled with elevated pub food, a few classics and then a few twists on those very classics. Come hinge, because the menu is carb-driven, so be ready to eat! To start, we went with the poutine, because why not! The fries were crispy, gravy was velvety and the curds were firm, yet melty enough for a good cheese pull! For our mains, we both went sandwiches. I went with the Celtic Burger, which is their standard burger with added caramel iced onion, whiskey bacon jam, Irish cheddar and a garlic aioli. The burger was good and cooked well, but it was less impressive than I expected given all the goods they added to it. While the aforementioned additions sound like a flavor bomb, it was still fairly one note in overall flavor. It was still tasty, but again, not as expected. My buddy went with the corned beef sandwich. He enjoyed it, no major issues! I did appreciate that exchanging fries with fried curds was an option, especially after loaded up on fries as a starter. The curds were well fried, pillowy and quite tasty. Perfect side for sure! In addition to the food, they are known for their bar offerings so you know we had to grab a few cocktails! I went with the Golden Dew and my buddy the Old Fashioned. Golden Dew was delightful, however the old fashioned was a bit sweet, but that's possibly the brandy. Service was great. We walked in and hit the wait list, however was able to scoop up a few seats at the bar before our table was ready. The bartenders were friendly, helpful and an overall joy to interact with. Overall, definitely a fan of The Coopers Tavern! When back in Madison, I would certainly swing by again!

The two pieces that came out were enormous and a bit wonky shaped... made me wonder what on earth this fish looked like in its swimming days. The batter was quite tasty, crunchy but not too crunchy/hard, but it was so incredibly think I'm not sure I got fish in every bite. I took one piece home and give the fish part to my pup as a meal topper, and the ratio of breading I had to pull off compared to fish was a bit (quite a bit) much. Still, everything I ate was tasty.
