Garlic Burger with a side of curds
    Bobb S.

After seven years, I am probably due to update my original review. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon to grab a late lunch. The dining room was bustling and our server did great shuttling both drinks and food to us. They have a very solid beer line up as well as full service bar and cocktail list. Food is your standard pub line up (appetizers, burgers, sandwiches) and I left impressed. Our cheese curds were some of the best in Madison. Hand breaded and perfectly fried, they oozed cheesy goodness. The sriracha ranch dipping sauce was a perfect foil for the richness. Boneless wings were the special and for $8, it was a steal. Again, perfectly breaded and fried. I would definitely order them again. I need to add SHoW on my short list of go-to's when I'm looking for a casual spot for a bite and a sip. Very solid.

I have stopped in for lunch twice now, the first time for a burger & I wasn't super happy about it as I ordered Med Rare and it was Medium to well done. A work group wanted to meet here so I decided to try the fried fish sandwich, I asked for it on toasted rosemary sourdough and it was delicious! The pubs chips were fresh & the coleslaw was decent (a bit too much sauce & a rougher cut, large chunks which made it a bit difficult to eat). Back porch is very welcoming with grape vines draped over for shade.

We already had dinner but I wanted to try another fried cheese curds before leaving WI, so my son took me here. We only ordered one order of cheese curds for the 3 of us, the waitress was so friendly and they have no issues for us just doing that. She even brought us water without being asked! Ki will go back to have dinner next time I visit. One word of caution for those who are new to this restaurant - watch out for the steps when you leave. It's one step down as soon as you open the door. I almost fell and good thing I caught myself!!

We were not done celebrating after the Badger win and were on the hunt for a place nearby that wasn't overrun with folks and had a 25 minute wait for a beer, so we kept walking down Regent Street until we found what we were after, which turned out to be Sweet Home Wisconsin! We wandered in and bellied up to the bar immediately. The staff was phenomenal from entry to exit. Both bartenders and the bar back we encountered were friendly, kind and pleasant. Even the other customers at the bar were friendly! Could have been the great UW win, but either way, not a bad vibe in the place! We hung out for an hour or two, and in that time had a few cocktails, a pickle back and some cheese curds. All were delightful! Sweet Home Wisconsin has a purely local vibe, but a welcoming energy for all local or visiting. Overall, absolutely fell in love with this little spot! It is certainly on my "return to" list when back in Madison!

We were in town for a few days and someone had recommended this place to my husband, so we figured we would give it a try. We arrived around 11 on a Friday and were quickly seated. They have appetizers, several different burgers, salads, and a few others sandwiches. I had the garlic guitar burger with chips. My husband had the patty melt with fries. Both sandwiches were very tasty. The chips were extra crunchy. The fries were good but very salty.

Sweet home Wisconsin appears to be a cool place to hang out, primarily for students. We happened to go for lunch on a Friday at 11:00 a.m. just as they opened, and it seemed to be their less active time, understandably. It did provide us the opportunity to get great service, since we were the only ones there. I had the patty melt and fries - the burger was excellent, and the fries were prepared to a perfect crispness and just a little oversalted. With pricing averaging about $20 per person including drinks and a meal, it is a reasonable value for the area.

I took out dinner from here on a Friday evening. Fried cheese curds I had, was the best I ever had. Sriracha ranch added a nice kick to it. Garlick guitar lick burger had excellent flavors. Phish fry sandwich was good as well.

The lighting is intimate and the decor relies heavily on dark corners and draped curtains. The place simply oozes atmosphere and looks like something straight out of a David Lynch movie. It's hard to categorize the Corral Room Bar. It straddles the line of both divy and classy. Both seedy and romantic. If you're on a date and you REALLY want to impress someone, take them to the Corral Room. P.S. I'm pretty sure this is the only place in madison where you can order escargot.

We ordered the French onion soup, cheese curds (not available on the upstairs menu), scallop appetizer, steak sandwich and the pineapple upside down cake (also not listed on the late night menu but on the upstairs Tornado room menu). Pros: We could get quality cheese curds that weren't normally an option here! They had many of the fav's from the upstairs menu available as a late night late night option. The dessert was amazing, as always! Con: The steak sandwich had been rumored to be a showstopper but ours was thin pieces of tough, chewy steak. Nothing close to what I'd have ever guessed possible for this usually elite steak house on even its worst day. Major disappointment.

It happened to be near the theatre we went to, so we decided to stop in and check it out. They have nearly 775 different types of whiskey to choose from, which is wild! I loved that they offer different ounce sizes so you can sample a few, and they even pair it with water so you stay hydrated while tasting (smart touch). Price ranges between ~$7.50-$20.00+. The place had a cozy, lounge-like vibe and was pretty busy, but the staff was friendly and helpful. It's first come first served for seating, just like any bar. We sampled a few whiskeys and also tried their premade espresso martini. The whiskey selection was phenomenal, the espresso martini was decent, not the best I've had (it was premade), but still enjoyable (it's made with Tito's, which isn't my favorite base, but I appreciate the fresh coffee beans they used). All in all, this place is a hidden gem. Great whiskey, friendly staff, and the perfect cozy spot to escape the rain for a while. I'll definitely be back next time to try even more from their list!

I had dinner plans, so I just wanted to stop in for a drink and snack. They have some really good offers for HH and their cheese curds are half off. They come with ranch and hot honey, and apparently they recently won best cheese curd at the cheese curd crawl. They were super tasty. Well seasoned, perfectly fried, and kind of chewy. I am not on the hot honey frenzy train, but I tried it and thought it paired well, just wasn't for me. The ranch was tasty though. Even the happy hour portion was hefty and I couldn't put down half.
