Do not book a reservation at Red Roof Inn Morehead KY! We booked and paid for a room 1 week in advance of our arrival. When we arrived at the front desk to check in at 9pm, we were informed there were no rooms available. We showed our confirmation email and proof that the room was fully paid in advance. The staff informed us that reservations are irrelevant, rooms are available on a "first come first served" basis. WHAT?? Has the word "reservation" lost it's meaning? The staff provided no assistance securing other lodging nor were they able to even assist with a refund. As a result of this poor experience we will never stay at a Red Roof again and consider yourself warned that your reservation is meaningless here. read more

8/30/25 Seems to be very useless to make reservations to have a room booked. So, it was season opener, my daughter's first year in college, first time to perform on the field. Big night, gonna be a great weekend, go to the game, get to spend the next day with her until we get to the hotel. Screeching halt, I walk in and the gentlemen in front of me that was talking with the worker at the counter seems that he had reserved a room but was given to another patron! What, oh no! So here the gentleman walks out wondering where will get another room this time of night. As I walk up I was thinking I already know what my answer is going to be to, I'll be turned away with no room also. Well, as thought I was correct! What is the purpose of RESERVING a room for it to only be given as FIRST COME!! Could that be explained, they say OVERBOOKED!! How does one get overbooked? I'm highly Upset, highly aggravated and highly angry! I call my daughter and explain I'm driving home due to the negligence from the hotel and I'm sorry to leave and our plans are disrupted due to inexcusable reason due to the hotel OVERBOOKING! I am only 1 1/2 hr away from home, and that's what I done but what about the gentleman in front of me, I'm not sure of his story but I'm sure the situation was different! I know he wasn't finding another room anywhere because most hotel was already booked when I reserved my room. What if this man had to drive another 30 mins on down the road (which it is) to find a room, what if he was to fall asleep at the wheel!! The staff was really nice, but that's where it ends. It is an absolute sheet hole. I killed four bed bugs, I had to sleep in my clothes on top or the covers, and kept every light in the unit on with the TV on to ward off the critters. Carpets were filled with filth, holes in the drywall, an ironing board without a cover was sitting in the middle of the entryway. I came close to sleeping in my car. I paid for the room through a booking site 8 1/2 months prior. Was told the night before that I would have to pay in cash only. Wow. How disappointing. The hotel was not rated too high but I expected more. They are trying to give the place a facelift. Seems like they are charging a high price to stay in a construction zone. They should have gotten a container to store construction materials in - not the lobby. First impression: 0. Cleanliness is a big zero here! Check out the crap in the elevator. The room is clean though. Maintenance sucks here. Two broken lights in the room. The light over the sink barely comes on. Stains on bed covers. Beds feel nice but look a little saggy. This is a filthy dirty disgusting place to stay. Sleep in your car. Run away! Black mold, toilets don't work, towels dirty, pool closed by the health dept. Absolutely disgusting and I would NEVER stay there! Booked online as it was only 1 mile from the venue I was heading to but got there to find nobody at the desk and after searching for an employee I was told she'd be right there. She still hadn't shown up for 20 min so I found her in a room cleaning and she angrily went downstairs to cancel my reservation when I refused to stay. Not only was she rude and argumentative but the entire place was so filthy! Beer cans everywhere, in the hallways and in window sills of multiple rooms, not to mention excessive trash piled up in front of the rooms​! To top it off there's. Ummm NO! Went to check out the room before bringing in luggage and NO NO NO! Mattress is so stained yellow...gross! Dirt and debits just outside the door. Like someone took a broom to the carpet and just left it there! Standing in lobby waiting for clerk to refund payment and getting excuses. She's got to call to people to get permission. Told us to go across the street to find some women named Sandy myself! Finally, charges are reversed! Went across the street and got a room $30 more and it's clean and well cared for! read more

Donnie and D left for their fishing trip Thursday morning. They rented a room at the Red Roof Inn in Morehead KY for the night. A deluxe room. There was a hole in the wall, a hole one of the mattresses, dead bugs in the tub, etc. Then D killed a roach on the wall when they came back in from dinner. A washcloth and a hand towel were the only towels in the room. I asked Donnie why the hell they stayed there and why didn't they call the front desk. I guess they were too tired after driving and fishing all day. Personally, I would have been in their face demanding my money back. After driving for 12 hours, we pulled in late and asked if they had any rooms available. The kid behind the counter was polite and promptly checked us in. The lobby was a bit dated and smelled a bit stale, the furniture a bit dated. Regardless, I just needed a clean bed and bathroom for a few hours of shut eye before driving another 11 hours to get home. Upon walking into the room, the bed was made, linens looked fresh and up to date...the air conditioner was blowing on high and thermostat set at 60. We regulated it to our liking and began turning on lights...well, the lights that would turn on that is. Several burned out bulbs in the room. We kicked off our shoes and I headed to the bathroom for a shower. I promptly turned around and refused to shower. The bathroom was DISGUSTING. Questionable filth on the floor and in the tub. The grout on the floor was brown except behind the toilet where it was the original white. The floor was sticky and it had obviously not been scrubbed for some time. Upon further review of the room, the carpet was also disgusting and was emitting a putrid smell that filled the room. Between the carpet, which was wet under the air conditioner, and the moldy air blowing out of the air conditioner, the room should have been marked for bio hazard. Upon check out, after a terrible nights sleep, the guy at the front desk asked if everything was okay with the room and I couldn't even begin to describe the filth. I wish I would've read the reviews beforehand. Upon arrival, they said they were out of rooms when I had made the reservation three days in advance. Then they said they only had single bed rooms left when I need two beds. They tried to make it up by giving me two jacuzzi rooms for a discount. Upon entering one of the rooms, it had a strong odor of smoke when it was supposed to be a none smoking room. I was traveling with my toddler and three month old so that was concerning. The second room did not smell but looked like it wasn't being kept up with and was dirty. The lady at the front desk was very nice and was trying hard to make it right, which I appreciated but overall this hotel was terrible. AND the elevator wasn't working. Even the drawer at the front desk fell apart when the lady tried opening it. I do not recommend this hotel at all not even for a few hours of sleep. read more

A little background: I visit Morehead almost every summer for a family reunion and I've stayed in every motel in the vicinity of this one. The hotels/motels around here go through ownership/name/brand changes like a politician's promises....if you just show up in town without reservations, you might find that your favorite hotel no longer exists.. The most "steady" motels seem to be the Hampton Inn and the Holiday Inn Express. That is about to change, however, as the Holiday Inn Express will be turning into a Best Western, which, I believe, THIS motel was at one time....womp womp! My experience: I booked a room online. Two weeks before arrival, I needed to change my arrival date, but the online method was having none of it! I called THIS motel; let it ring 10 times with no answer. I called the national number and the lady that answered couldn't have been more helpful (my overall experience with Red Roofs across the nation). Upon our arrival, there were two people sitting on a bench outside the main entrance smoking and chatting. We thought they were other guests, but it turned out that they were employees. *Note to management: have an area for employees to smoke AWAY from the main entrance AND out of view of guests! Also? Designated smoke breaks...there was someone out there puffing away constantly! Check-in went easily and we went to our room. I was not as grossed out as the other reviewers, because, well, I knew how they do things down here from previous experiences. It is at this point that I should note that during my conversation with the front desk staff, mention was made that the same people who own the Days Inn across the street also own the Red Roof Inn. My heart sank. Without mincing words, the Days Inn is a disgusting shit hole. I refuse to stay there again (ants crawling the wall behind the bed and a questionable brown liquid splattered on the wall in the bathroom *shudders*). To my surprise, the room looked nice and we were there to sleep only, not lounge. I noticed a few things that the others mentioned, but again, I was used to how things are done (or not) down here. The one sticking point was that my sister walked from her bed (the far one of the two in the room) to the bathroom and back again in her bare feet and from just that little amount, the bottoms of her feet were as black as if she had just walked through charcoal. THAT is disgusting! Lesson learned, shoes on when touching the floor! The beds were the best thing about our room, actually. They were comfortable and clean (positive thoughts, POSITIVE THOUGHTS!) I recommend bringing your own pillow, because theirs were kind of flimsy, even when using two. On the plus side? NO BED BUGS!!!!! I know that is a big worry for travelers, but really, there were none in our room. The shower curtain in the bathroom was troublesome, as it refused to stay closed from either end. It preferred to hang in the middle of the rod. The bath mat may as well have been a paper towel, for all the good it did...There was a touch of mold growing in one section of the shower where the wall and ceiling met and the front facing of the counter was askew in one corner. Other than these issues and a few dust bunnies, the room was habitable. We did have to ask the front desk for extra towels and toiletries, as there were 3 of us in the room. Red Roof knew this because I had to list the number of people upon making the reservation, yet they looked at us like, "The 4 towels, 2 rags, 2 tiny bars of soap and 1 miniscule bottle of shampoo we gave you weren't enough?" No, not for 3 heads and 3 bodies....NO! We partook of the complimentary breakfast and it was adequate for our needs: cold cereal and milk, make-your-own-waffles (either regular or chocolate), with butter and syrup, yogurt, toast and jelly, mini donuts and muffins and hot coffee, cold orange juice and apple juice. Checkout went as easy as check in, so no complaints there. The attitude in this part of Kentucky is a very laid back, things-will-get-done-when-they-get-done (or when-I-get-to-it) type of attitude and, as I said, I'm used to how things are done down here. No one is in a hurry to do anything. Honestly, though, if I were an owner, or even a manager, I WOULD be embarrassed having rooms look the way they do and charging people as much money as they do for said rooms. If I was an employee, I don't know if I could look guests in the eye! If your housekeepers can't clean the rooms adequately, please hire new ones. I'm sure there are several students from MSU that would be happy to do their job! I will continue to stay at other Red Roof Inns across the country, but I can't say for sure that I will be returning to this one. 38/2016 read more

Basic cheap sleep. That's it. Room was decently clean. Could be much better if someone paid attention to detail. Trouble at check in with keys not working. Had to go back down to the lobby to get that crap straightened out. Nice TV. My bed was pretty comfortable. Rooms have microwave/fridge. Laminate hardwood flooring needs to be cleaned more often. Pretty dirty. One can walk across the room to get into bed only to see all the dirt and nastiness that got into the bed with you. By far the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Hotel looks like it hasn't been remodeled in 20 years. Feels super sketchy and unsafe. Bathrooms are FILTHY. Yellow stains on toilets seats. Entry way dirty, uninviting. Luggage Carts need repaired. Room was very dirty, I cleaned floor with a washcloth. Can't smell so I hope it didn't stink. Sheets questionable, I pray they were clean. Spreads felt dirty. Tub dirty. Ran out of hot water on Friday night. Counter needs replaced. Side door didn't shut so anyone could walk in. No attendant in sight, so left. Mattress was lumpy and very, very old. Uncomfortable. Bathroom fan was so noisy you couldn't turn it on. Just stayed 2 nights this past weekend. read more

I was in the group of booking.com customers who got their reservations cancelled along with Erica B. I also got an email letting me know that my requested cancellation was proccessed. We were also planning to stay there for MSU Family Weekend in late September. When we called the Red Roof Inn we were also lied to several times, including being told that no manager existed above the on site manager to take our issue higher up the chain. read more

This place has issues. It's the second time I've stayed here and while it wasn't great the first time, it wasn't that bad, either. I generally don't spend a lot of time in hotel rooms. Mostly a place to sleep and shower. I arrived around 11:30 at night. When I entered my room and flipped the light switch by the door, nothing happened. I managed to find the light switch in the bathroom so I had a little light to see where I was going. I tried turning on the wall lamp above the dresser. Nothing. I turned on the lights between the beds and those worked. At least now I can see. There was another floor lamp over by the window. It worked and had 2 bulbs so I took one out to switch with lamp above the dresser. Guess what? There wasn't even a bulb in there. No wonder it didn't work. Not so fast. I screwed in the bulb and it still didn't work. I checked to make sure the lamp was plugged in and, you guessed it, it was unplugged. I attempted to plug it in but the cord doesn't reach the outlet. Really?!? I put the bulb back in the floor lamp and drug the floor lamp over to the dresser. I placed it on top of the dresser so I would have light to see my suitcase. At least the bed was comfortable. I actually slept pretty good. The next morning I left fairly early to visit my son and his family. That evening when I came back I went to get some ice. The ice machine is out of order with a note saying to go to the front desk. No one was there. I rang the bell. No one. I went outside to leave again and the clerk was outside, smoking I think. She told me to have a good night. Other things that need attention: Coffee but no coffee cups No "Do not Disturb " placard for the door Kleenex box was empty Toilet tissue was almost empty and another partial roll was on top of the dispenser A couple hairs and other moop in the tub A power cord and men's underwear (clean I think/hope. It was still folded) in the dresser drawer. No pen or paper in the room. Elevator smells like bug spray (3 days so far). Time to find a new place when I visit next time. $82-85/night is way too much for a place with this many problems. read more

After reading some of the older bad reviews, I was hesitant to make a reservation. But being on a tight budget for this trip I decided to try it anyway, and I was very pleasantly surprised that the stay was much better than I had anticipated. It appears that they have done some renovations, the room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and it was quiet (all that I really want in a motel for a few days) at a price that didn't hurt my wallet too badly. I didn't get a chance to try out their pool, but it looked clean and well maintained. The staff was very friendly and accomodating, they were willing to go out of their way to be helpful. I will definitely consider another stay there. The only negative thing I can say is there wasn't a microwave in the room. read more

I booked best western thru Booking.com on 5/24/19 . Best western called me on 5/25/19 24 hrs later and informed me that Booking.com over booked there rooms. So best western said they would put me up in red roof inn free of charge. Come to find out the same person owns both hotels. The red roof inn sucks. There was a musky smell in the lobby and the elevator. We get to our room and the air conditioner was turned off and hotter than the hubs off hell. So we turned the ac on and left for a while. Come back later still warm. Went in the bathroom to shower. And behind the trash can a big black mold spot. The only reason I stayed here is because nothing else was available. If I would of had to pay to stay here I would of got a refund and kept driving to another town. I would not recommend this place at all read more

They cancelled my reservations made 6 months ago, and all other booking.com reservation for this weekend. The email said it was at my request. It was NOT. The rude lady at the hotel said it was due to bad credit card number, that's b.s. so now all hotels are booked and my family weekend for my daughter at MSU is ruined because they overbooked! My Aunt, my mom, and myself are staying for Thursday plus the weekend. We are all staying in one room which has two beds, a dinner table, two chairs, a tv stand/dresser, a side table, and a luggage stand. The room also includes an adequate sized flat screen tv, a mini fridge, a microwave, a coffee maker, alarm clock, and a bible. The bathroom includes 2 in 1 shampoo and conditioner, bar soap, towels, rags, and basic bathroom necessities. When we first walked into our room, we noticed that there were not enough hygienic necessities provided so we had to ask the front desk for more. I wouldn't exactly say the hotel should have known there were going to be three people because the room had what a typical room comes with. The front desk gave us no problems about giving the extra needs. Although, the room didn't have enough toilet paper and there were no tissue box. Through the time walking around in the room barefoot, our feet began to look dirty. The room is fully carpeted but has it been vacuumed and/or cleaned recently? Other than that the whole room was clean even the beds and counter tops. We had breakfast this morning and that was really good! If you've never had a chocolate batter waffle, you can now. It is lightly chocolated plus you get to make it yourself!! Very exciting! A few issues that I had was the pool area wasn't fancy but it wasn't trashed. The water seemed not transparent which maybe it was the floor of the pool or maybe lighting or my angle but I am not too sure if it's clean to be honest. Another thing was the smell of the halls in the hotel. To me, it smelled similar to a B.O. scent. The people at the front during all shifts were really nice and helpful!
