Red Rooster has been on my list a while and after brunch elsewhere, the cold snap had me & my friend wanting somewhere cosy for a cocktail. We thought we'd head to the Curtain hotel as worse case if we couldn't get a cocktail at RR, they were bound to have a hotel bar! We accidentally entered the restaurant through a back/side door and initially thought we'd stumbled into a private party after hearing music and people stood up watching where the music was coming from. We were wrong! Turns out this is a typical Sunday brunch at Red Rooster! The House Gospel Choir were playing their third and final show of the day and my friend and I loved it! We ordered a cocktail and sat back and enjoyed the show. The songs were so uplifting and really got us going and in a great mood! The cocktails were really good, our server was so friendly and funny! (Shorter Spanish cheeky chappie) and was always on hand for the next order. We also shared a dessert (baked Alaska), it was really good! We can't wait to go back and next time we are going for food and the whole show! It would be perfect for groups or a birthday or special occasion and the music was great entertainment (and free!!) and really creates a great atmosphere. I also can't forget to mention the decor!! I loved it. So cool, trendy and the room off to the side with a kind of conservatory feel, was so cute with cool seating & decor. I can only imagine what the hotel rooms here are like! I can't wait to return very soon!

I'm liking the Red Rooster very much thank you! I saw this spring up a little while ago and curious to what it was like. Finally taking the opportunity to visit, we seemed to get there on a day where there was a private party on so could not sit up stairs. I believe this area is where you'd seat for mainly drinking and snacks. However, like I said, private party up stairs so we were shown downstairs to sit. large bar downstairs with seating availability around it. Also, with a viewable kitchen there is a reasonable amount of seating space and also some in the covered outside area where it was a little quieter. We grabbed a seat and perched at the bar. As a cocktail bar, the waiting staff were busy mixing up the delights. Cocktails were made swiftly with not too much waiting time. Any waiting time was easily utilised watching the bar tenders at work. They have their bespoked cocktails but I'm sure they would make the 'regulars' if that was your bag. I sampled the one with jerk sauce in it which was very nice! The waiters are also happy to take there time to talk you through what is in the cocktails and even what each ingredient brings to the mix. Not intending to eat but getting the inevitable munchies we grabbed a menu. Decent selection of snacks, starters, mains and sides displaying their US/Skandi mix. I went for their signature Chicken and Waffles and corn bread side. With reasonable waiting time, food was swiftly delivered. Chicken was crispy deep fried without any oiliness but juicy inside with a crispy waffle to accompany definitely a good choice, great taste and textures. It looked so good I forgot the obligatory photo for Yelp! (the shame!). The cornbread was also very nice, actual pieces of corn in the bread which was lightly toasted and served with spreads. Taste sensation absolutely satisfied with a final slurp of my cocktail we sat back to listen to the live jazz band which had started to play. Bang on with catering for their diverse clientele with their gender neutral toilets. Red Roosters was lively with a great atmosphere. Absolutely expect me back. Can a person get fed up of chicken and waffles.....???

Excellent fried chicken Went for the Gospel brunch and it was a fun Sunday! The gospel is ok but not amazing but the chicken is the real deal. My friends had the chicken and waffle. The waffle are a bit small but I did like the cinnamon in it. My other friend and I shared the royal bird feast which I highly recommend. It's basically a whole fried chicken with a side of waffle, biscuit, pickled cucumber and red cabbage and mac and greens. The sides where a bit underwhelming but still tasty. Not enough collard in the mac and greens. All in all its all about the chicken at Red Rooster the rest is just a side note. So if you re a chicken lover do try this place!

We came here for their Thanksgiving meal on Thursday. It was a pre-set menu that included appetizers, turkey dinner and dessert. The appetizers were quite wonderful and had me excited for the dinner. The dinner included turkey, cranberry sauce, green beans and stuffing. I felt that it was a bit lacking in flavor which left me a bit disappointed. We finished up with a slice of apple pie that was fantastic. Additionally we very much enjoyed the espresso martini!

Really a 3.5. Service excellent (except getting water refilled). Meatballs were great. Yardbird platter overall good. Chicken was excellent, light batter and moist. Biscuit was really a scone. Pickles and slaw great. Sauces great. Only got two Waffle pieces, should have been more. They were amazing. Marcus, you would be chopped for your mac and greens. No seasoning! Overall, a good experience and we will return

The decor is gorgeous! Phenomenal art and design abound. We came in last Friday night for a late dinner and were overall pleased. I had southern heritage, cornbread, mac + cheese, and green beans. (The lighting was too low to take decent photos of the food but it was appealing and well plated.) As long as you aren't anticipating traditional Black American soul food (even though, I dare say, the setting and food names would lead you to believe it would be) you should be satisfied. I enjoyed the meal but because of the surroundings & descriptions had different expectations. The old fashioned I had was well prepared and the food arrived quickly. Our service was also outstanding. We came in contact with multiple employees and they were all fantastic. When we arrived a pretty mediocre live band was playing then a couple djs followed. All of the music's execution left much to be desired- maybe some guest djs from the US would be good OR contact the folks who perform at Quaglino's. (I heard the gospel brunch at RR is a lot of fun though!) The beautiful art made the visit worthwhile. I have mixed feelings about Black American art being paired with cuisine + entertainment that is a touch off but still plan to return. In the grand scheme of things, this is a new establishment that is surely working out kinks. And this is London, after all. Gotta make food that appeals to the population's tastes. Ultimately a pleasant experience.

I have admired Chef Marcus Samuelsson as an acclaimed chef, restauranteur, and cookbook author. He has received a James Beard award and has been in the Food Network. I have wanted to try the Red Rooster in Harlem. I was very excited when I heard about the opening of the location in Shoreditch (London) last May. I had the opportunity to go to the Gospel Brunch on Sunday. The talented, energetic, and soulful House Choir was amazing. I loved their energy, positivity, and their ability to raise high vibrancy. It seemed almost everyone here was celebrating their birthday! I have to admit this is the first time I have seen someone celebrate their birthday with a whole chicken (the fried yard bird.) The food is a take on traditional American Southern cuisine. The concept of the restaurant is the essence of Harlem brought to Shoreditch with a little British twist. I loved my Sammy's Chicken 'n Waffles with Harlem-style fried chicken, pickles, smoked maple syrup, and rooster sauce. CC's Deviled Eggs with chicken skin aioli and duck jerky where also good. The Morningside Mimosa with pineapple, sweet ancho, and prosecco was unique. I wanted to try the doughnut with salted caramel ice cream and rum but it was sold out...do you may want to place your order all at once. Reservations are recommended especially for the brunch. Check times of the performances on-line (currently 12:15, 2, and 3:30.). Go with a good appetite and give yourself sometime to relax and enjoy the fabulous singing. I found the service to be painful slow and not very attentive but I would go back. I can't wait to try the cookbook! www.thecurtain.com to book a table.

    It's a celebration!!!!

WOW, this place is delicious!…read more Our family stopped in London for the last part of our cruise. After touring St. Paul's Cathedral, we were pretty hungry. We found The Fat Bear via Yelp!, and decided to give it a try. There were so many things on the menu that looked really good, but I had been craving chicken and waffles. The waffles were crisp on the outside, and fluffy on the inside -- the chicken, cooked perfectly, too. The syrup they serve it with is incredible. I definitely recommend checking this place out if you are in London! Carson C. Visalia, California

I wanted something with at least one good veggie option, they wanted something with meat, and it had to be somewhere in-between Camden and Canary Wharf, not too pricey, and ideally close to the city because otherwise our Italian friend probably wouldn't make it. And lo and behold.... THE FAT BEAR!!! It was all we wanted and more! This place is sort of tucked away and up some stairs above a pub. It's really just a room and a half, which makes it super cozy and they have a pretty awesome looking bar. It's got warm lighting which makes the atmosphere really nice. Their cocktails were delightful and the service was excellent. I will make a very strange observation that someone working there had a very drunk friend who just sort of made herself at home. Then more joined and it turned into me watching this table of really really drunk people trying to order food. Two of them ended up just falling asleep. It was super strange. Anyway, me being distracted aside, I really loved the cocktail I ordered- Sloe Boat To China, and everyone else seemed happy with theirs. I was dying to try the pimiento cheese starter and the fried pickles. The cheese was particularly sharp and delicious. The pickles were good, but quite skinny (I mean come on, you're in an American restaurant I was expecting some serious pickles). The vegan gumbo was super spicy and delicious. I was impressed and enjoyed it. My husband dropped the ball and ordered the regular jambalaya (with sausage) rather than the seafood one which broke my heart a little bit, because I really wanted to try it. You know, I guess that means we'll just have to come back. Oh also another bonus, this place has brisket which is really hard to find. I can't say how it tastes but my friend said he defo approves (am I becoming more British with these words, or just more annoying?) Anyway, to finish it off I had the oreo cheesecake which the bomb. I love oreos. And it tasted like oreo. So all was right with the world. A wonderful place to come if you have people who want to try American food, or if you have out of town Americans who are too scared to try other food, or if you have hungry friends that want to try cajun food, or if you just want to try some really yummy food.

It's a mixed experience, and different to the US, but the bottom line is the food is still to die for. Sweet Chick don't do reservations. Which is fine - the US locations are tiny, you wait which creates a buzzy atmosphere for others, etc. The London version copies this. But when we visited for an early dinner Saturday, the venue was half empty. Hoping to eat quickly, we were told to sit at the bar, for "at most a half hour". We did this. During this time, achingly hipster bartenders slowly made cocktails from cheat sheets. The place is new, I get it, but the staff at the front end are there to bring you in. The hostess continually seated larger parties ahead of us, and at times just hung out while tables were available. This is super annoying - it's clearly part of the process, and designed to get you to spend. There was no flexibility to it, and the experience wasn't welcoming so much as just awkward. BUT - once we were seated, it became a totally different experience. Lovely, attentive service for a start. Help with choosing menu items if you want it, fast delivery that doesn't rush you, and the food...Goddamn the food. Carbs on carbs on carbs. Gooey mac and cheese with a hint of spice and crunchy crumb coating...delicious melt in the mouth biscuits (savoury scones to us) with a salt and herb crust and about a tub of butter in each... and all that before the main course. Chicken and waffles is the staple, and more than filling. Two chicken pieces, deep fried but not greasy, with a waffle. It isn't fancy, and doesn't need to be. It's just delicious and well made. Prices are reasonable - mains are in the £13-£24 range. Cocktails are nicely varied, made with cheap liquor which is a shame, but still pretty tasty. And maybe if they can iron out the intro experience to make it feel less like every other London restaurant and more like the NY joint, it would be a five star experience. Until then, put up with weird intro, it's worth it for the food. Just leave your belt at home.

I've been looking forward to visiting Duck & Waffle for quite some time. The views are incredible,…read morethe space itself is striking, and on paper it promises that perfect London mix of skyline, late-night energy, and elevated comfort food. Unfortunately, our experience was soured before it even had a chance to begin. My girlfriend and I walked in excited, completely amicable, simply hoping to head upstairs for a bite and drinks. We were greeted by the doorman with an immediate, dismissive "Are you good?" -- not in a welcoming or helpful tone, but in a way that felt skeptical and unnecessarily confrontational. There was no warmth, no "welcome in," no attempt at hospitality. It immediately set an uncomfortable tone. He then proceeded to call upstairs as though he were doing us some sort of favor just by allowing us to go up. The entire interaction felt transactional and judgmental rather than gracious. First impressions matter, especially at a place that positions itself as a premium dining destination. Hospitality begins at the door, not at the table. When we finally made it upstairs, the room was filled with visibly drunk, rowdy groups -- which only made the earlier attitude feel even more misplaced. If that environment is acceptable (and profitable), then two polite guests looking for drinks and food shouldn't be met with suspicion at the entrance. By that point, the damage was done. The initial interaction had already rubbed us the wrong way, and the energy upstairs didn't help. We ultimately decided to leave before even sitting at our table. That's how strongly the first impression impacted us. It's difficult to justify staying somewhere when you don't feel genuinely welcomed from the outset. Duck & Waffle has the potential to be memorable for all the right reasons. But someone representing the brand at the very front needs to understand that hospitality isn't optional -- it's foundational. A simple, respectful welcome would have changed everything. I hope management takes this seriously, because no guest should feel judged or dismissed before they even step inside.

In the couple of years I've lived in London I've noticed something in particular aobut Nando's: the locals don't really talk about it nearly as much as foreigners do. When I read conversations by Americans who have spent some time in the UK it is very common to read "I wish there was a Nando's nearby!" whereas I haven't heard that once actually living here. If anything, the most common observation I'm privy to is "It used to be much cheaper!" That's because it's just kind of average chicken. You can add some spice to it if you so desire but that's all you're doing because it doesn't come with any added flavor. The sides that can come along with it like the rice, corn, and broccoli are also absent of much flavor, and getting the chicken in sandwich form doesn't really help much. Also, if you happen to be nearby the Canary Wharf location there is a much superior branch of Chicken Shop literally right next door for the same cost. My fellow Americans, you are viewing this establishment through the sentimentality of your trips abroad. I do not use hyperbole when I say the humble El Pollo Loco in SoCal is an order of magnitude tastier and cheaper than Nando's.
