Had the veggie sampler for lunch, delicious with wonderful flavor. Service friendly & helpful.

Fine example of Eritrean food in a homey dive. The Injera is fluffy, spongy, and tangy. The beef curry has tender chunks of meat, deep earthy flavors and has a medium heat. Lamb curry was mild. And the chicken curry with egg was amazing--almost mole like. The mustard greens was neutral tasting, cabbage carrot and carrot was also mild. Yellow lentil curry was our favorite. Simple, small dining room. Extremely friendly owner and cook. Prices are higher than what I am used to paying for this kind of food, but thrilled to have this example in Portland, ME.

I ordered beef tibsi that came with red lentil beans and a salad with green leaf lettuce, owner is very kind and he gave great service. The meat was spicy and good quality beef with onions, tomatoes and peppers plus a hot pepper sauce / oil. It was served on a large like flat soft brown pancake (my best description I'm sure there's a better out there). You can use a fork but I chose to eat using the pancake to eat as was optional. Highly recommended. It was really great and unique.

Great food, even when a busy festival is keeping the kitchen on its toes!…read more Maya's Kitchen is great, the food is tasty, and the service is delightful. I am saddened to learn that they are closing next year, but that just means that I need to eat there more while she is still open! The Mac & Cheese has a great Caribbean spice, certainly a top contender for M&C and the Chicken Curry is equally tasty. I wish that there was a larger dining room, it's quiet, but I expect that plenty of people come in for take-out, since the meals easily make it home without much loss of flavor. I look forward to visiting more in the future and trying out her entire menu.

If you're craving traditional African dishes, this is a solid place to visit. The customer service is decent -- the staff are polite, welcoming, and helpful. You won't experience anything extraordinary, but they are friendly and respectful. The ambiance is simple and more on the casual side. It feels like a low-key, everyday dining spot rather than a place for special occasions or date nights. However, that doesn't take away from the authenticity of the food. Overall, I would recommend Maya's Kitchen for anyone looking for good, authentic African cuisine in a relaxed and casual setting. It's a great choice for takeout or a casual meal when you're in the mood for traditional flavors.

I tend to do this when trying new places so I can figure out what I like, so I am use to waiting a bit. The food was really good and flavorful. The oxtails were so tender and the plantains so sweet. I was really excited about going back and I told a lot of people about this place. Unfortunately, it has been downhill every since. First they are never open on time. I have gone +40 mins after opening and the door was locked. I could see a woman unloading food but she did not acknowledge me. I have called +2 hours after opening and no answer. When I did finally manage to get ahold of someone, the food was cold and they changed the plantain style. Now they use large plantains that are not sweet. They are just dry and flavorless. I was ok with this since the portion size was still good and the other food still had good flavor. The last straw was when I ordered my food in person and I told guy #1 exactly what I wanted. I even got extra oxtail gravy for the rice. I waited about 15 mins for my food and I watched guy #1 finish packing my food. Well guy #2 was obviously upset with the amount of food guy #1 made for me so he made a scene. Even though he was speaking another language I could tell he was talking about me since he kept gesturing to me. They put my original food in a storage cabinet and guy #2 proceeded to remake my food. He put 1 oxtail, no gravy, and added a small amount of sides. This took another 10 mins. I was amazed at what I was watching. Guy #2 hands me the new food and smiles at me. Like I didn't just witnessed what happened. I try to support small places like this especially in this region but after that experience... I will likely never go back. I suggest you order your food ahead of time and avoid the wait and subpar service. Happy Hunting Yelpers!

The site is transformed inside from the driving range outside and has fantastic food and drink. We got a specialty coffee and mint tea to start. My coffee was good, but overshadowed by an artistic and extra special mint drink. So desperately trying to reproduce at home, this is not to miss. Fresh mint and wonderfully steeped with sugar to smooth. From there- wings were on our table. As with everyone's input we devoured these as a special recipe. Charred perfectly and spiced with extra lemon and zip. As advertised- spectacular! Lastly we got a salad and then the lamb with cous cous. So tender, great sweetness to contrast the somewhat spicy wings. I have never been to Morocco but felt like I did for this meal. Definitely cooked with tradition in mind and expertly to get fall off the bone brilliance. Service was exemplary for a holiday weekend.
