The Mayfair Chippy - My to go order was so tasty. Fries could have been crisper but the fish was on point!

The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. One of those spots that doesn't try to reinvent fish and chips. it just does the classic version better than most places. Would easily go back next time I am in London.

(I heard the non GF version was also excellent.) Platter came with flavorful mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a spicy mayo (or currry for the non GF platter). Chips were large and delicious. Portion was huge, and easily shareable. Delicious!! Service: It was ok. We waited in line for a really long time (more than an hour) but we were checked on from time to time. Once we were seated and ordered, no one really checked in, but we asked if we needed something. Ambiance: Cute outdoor seating. In door seating was okay. Reservations get to go into a back room which seemed nicer. Lovely side street in a crazy busy popular area. It's a solid 4.5 stars for what it is because the food was so good. I'd return. Tip: Make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, or be prepared to wait...a long time...Or, skip the line to order takeaway and go enjoy your food!

It is a farmer's type market with some prepared foods, which were top notch. We walked the entire thing and grabbed as much as we could to eat. There are plenty of food places just outside the space that are open later as well. I got some meat sticks from a vendor, sort of farmers market style. There was also another stand that had fruit in a cup with chocolate. Our best deal were some arepas that were half off because it was closing time and they wanted to get rid of them. This isn't the place to take pictures, but rather to immerse yourself in all the goodness that is here.

I went in 2 different times: saturday at 3pm and wednesday at 10am. Two completely different vibes. I tried the famous sandwich from the black pig, viral chocolate covered strawberries and bread ahead. Black pig - the best one sandwich: it was AMAZING!!! I was a bit scared to get this since i was by myself but let me tell you, it was not heavy as i expected it to be. Just delicious overall and would totally recommend. Chocolate strawberries: I love strawberries and chocolate but definitely think you can find cheaper alternatives anywhere in london. Bread Ahead: my new favorite pastry place. I pretty much got a donut from this place (not this location) everyday because the black currant cheesecake donut was that good. I got the tiramisu and crème brûlée donut which my brother liked and i wish i could've tasted them before they went bad but anyways, I would totally recommend the donuts from here! Their chocolate chips cookies are HUGE and delicious as well. This was probably one of my favorite markets!

It was a little late in the evening 8-9pm, so unsure where to go. Nothing that fancy inside, and not a large place. We gave it a try and had a warm welcome from the owner, Mr Haleem Kherallah, who made us feel like home. Gave us an special treat of appetizers and extra deserts! Mr Haleem Kherallah told us he is a lawyer, but we could tell that food is his passion. :-) He spoke to the kids and made us feel like we were visiting his home. I noticed several regulars who entered the restaurant and greeted with similar warmth. The home style Palestinian food was fabulous, and as others have posted, it was some of the best middle eastern food we have had a very long time. Home style recipes in a restaurant. We quickly eat all the left overs the next day as well! The amount of food we got for the family, compared to our final bill (in central London) was shocking. We are used to tipping (which is not normal in the UK), and gave the staff a nice tip which they were completely taken back about. But we thought it was the least we could do to say thanks. :-) If you enjoy authenticate great home style middle eastern food, this is the place to be! We will seek it out next time we are in town!

We got the mezze box, falafel box, and shawarma box to share which was plenty of food (for 2 people we should've just ordered 2 boxes, would've dropped the shawarma box). The food was very aesthetic but maybe a little on the blander side; the hummus was flavorful and the falafel crunchy with fresh herbs in the center. I did like the cauliflower and tabouleh from the vegetarian boxes but the shawarma meat under seasoned and a bit dry. Potatoes nice but maybe not enough salt for our preference. I did like the garlic butter dipping sauce Lovely location, very nice to eat outdoors however and see the London passersby

It's very spacious inside. Although their black bean dish Black House Daal is popular, I don't think it's something I'd reorder because I don't like beans that much in general. As a chicken tikka masala fan, I enjoyed their butter chicken the most. It's the closest thing they have to chicken tikka masala--which they don't have, they only have chicken tikka which is dry and quite spicy, has no creamy sauce. I also liked the okra fried, which is a type of fry I'm not used to seeing! It's got flavor, and I also loved the chutney and sauces on the table! I enjoyed a Dishoom Margarita which was strong in alcohol content and flavor, and a nice addition to the meal. They have an interesting drink menu, where you will find lots of nonalcoholic and rather healthy options! They have a small shelf in the middle of the room where they sell some of their chai and cookbooks amongst other things.

In my opinion, there are 2 main things to know about Dishoom: it's an Indian restaurant that is a chain, with 11 locations worldwide. The food is really good for a chain, bit it doesn't begin to come close to a restaurant that takes care of of its individual customers. Walking in, there's lots of energy. People are having a good time, there's no question. We were seated upstairs where there must have been around 40 tables. All of the staff are walking around in a hurry, cause everything here is in a hurry. The intention is to get you our in less than an hour. They want you in, through, and out. I saw this with multiple tables. Our server Yanko came to our table quite promptly and helped us make selections, both for food and drinks. For the first time in my experience eating in a restaurant, the appetizers arrived minutes before our cocktails. They came so fast that we didn't even think it was our order. And then moments after the drinks arrived, all of the main dishes and sides were placed on the table. With no way to keep anything warm. All of this with 10 minutes of placing the order. I appreciate prompt service, but this takes it to an absurd extreme. Our appetizers included the house Chaat and prawn koliwada. I enjoyed the prawns more but the flavors were facile, not close to what I expect and have enjoyed in excellent Indian restaurants. The main dishes were the Goan monkfish curry and Sali Goan. These were also just OK, absolutely nothing special. The cheese naan was soggy, though the flavor was good. This was an unacceptable texture for a naan. Dessert was Basmati Kheer, flavorful Basmati rice with fruit compote on top. In between and unneeded, was a thin layer of creme brulee. I did enjoy my tea: ginger, lemon and honey and my wife liked her mint tea. I do not know the restaurant scene in Edinburgh, we've been here for 4 days. But this is just not a place I'deven consider returning to. It's really a factory that feeds folks, not a restaurant that cares for its customers. The business model had been optimized to maximize income with lots of throughput. What's been almost completely lost in my opinion, is the heart and soul of the dining experience.
