Unfortunately, I have to report a bad experience with Red23. They blew it twice. First, I contacted them to see when they were planning to ship, and found that it would have been Friday. Knowing that the Royal Mail would not deliver here on Saturday, I asked that they wait and ship on Monday. They pleasantly agreed. And shipped on Friday anyway.
It wasn't delivered on Monday, so I called, and was put off. Asked to wait a day. I did. No delivery on Tuesday. Called again and was treated quite rudely. I was told that I had to do the followup with Royal Mail and was given the reference number of the package. On checking, I found that Royal Mail doesn't provide any info until after a package has been delivered, so there was no way I could check.
I called again yesterday, was told they were busy and would call me back. They never did - and I'm now sure they didn't intend to.
Today, nearly a week later, an attempt to deliver the package was made for the first time. I refused it, since it's a perishable item, and asked why delivery was so late. The postman said that it wasn't a guaranteed next-day delivery, just a signature-required delivery.
I called Red23 today and was treated exceedingly rudely. I was asked why delivery hadn't been attempted sooner, as if it had been my responsibility to assure on-time delivery. I told him that I'd asked the postman why, and he told me it hadn't been guaranteed. I was treated to a tirade about how the Royal Mail has an excellent record of delivery and told that it wasn't their problem. I informed him that it most certainly was, that they had determined the method of delivery, that there hadn't been any guarantee of it, that I couldn't accept perishable goods nearly a week later, and that I wanted my money back. It was, frankly, quite stressful - a miserable experience.
He snapped that he'd refund it. I'm assuming now that he will.
I also checked what Royal Mail charges for deliveries. It's obvious that Red23 makes a large profit from deliveries alone. The delivery charge for a recorded package of that size and weight is £4.00. They charge £6.95, a rather significant profit.
I'm quite disappointed. Had this problem happened with a different attitude on the part of Red23, I'd have understood. But the treatment I received leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.
The problems of delivery do exist. That I understand. But Red23 must know the implications of each type of delivery. Guaranteeing next day delivery, at most 48-hour delivery, is absolutely necessary for that product. If they wish to take the chance of using a non-guaranteed method, then they must be willing to accept that they'll suffer some losses. Instead, they try to intimidate the customer.
I don't care what the product, nothing is worth being treated like that. read more
