It was dusk on a hot and humid June evening, and the park was almost empty, save for some deer (who eyed me as I jogged past), lots of flickering fireflies, and a couple of lone strollers. There was a soccer game going on on the field by Veirs Mill Rd. I was pleased that the trail was paved, which made it impossible to lose and provided for a smooth running surface. The trail isn't very long (from its start at the Hunters Lane entrance to its end at Veirs Mill Rd, it's probably about 1.5 miles), so this is not a park for a long run, but, coupled with the round trip distance from my friend's apartment, it provided a nice respite from the suburban traffic.

this is a great park that spans an area between aspen hill and layhill in maryland. this park, or…read more"greenway" runs along the turkey branch parkway, and is bordered by viers mill rd (route 586) and connecticut ave (route 185). it makes for nice scenery for those running or walking along the matthew henson trail. a bit of history about this park's namesake, matthew henson, born in charles county, maryland, was the first african-american arctic explorer. so it is befitting that the maryland state parks commission would name a long park after him. unfortunately, there are no water fountains or other amenities here, so be sure to fuel up prior to working out or bring hydration with you!

There are also plenty of running/biking paths that connect several different neighborhoods to each other, making this a great central location connecting the communities of Rockville. Honestly, this is one of my favorite parks to bring my little puppy to, and to just wile away the hot summer days with the plethora of shade and a creek running through.
