It was quickly dried and styled in center or side parts, with lots of volume, lift and swing. Elegant and easy. Derek said he couldn't understand me. I should have left immediately. What I have now is an inexplicable cut, 2-5 " off, barely chin length, huge amounts of hair removed, wispy layers everywhere, and texturizing. He has activated a mass of waves and curls never seen before. From the front, the shape is a cartoonish wide diamond. From the sides, a fat wedge. This is the opposite of what is required for copious, European, fine, porous hair with a nape curl and minimal wave. Derek basically has created a White girl Afro. He somehow dried it beautifully, disguising the weird architectural structure by using a tiny brush on myriad narrow strands, drying them straight, and contorting them via elaborate manual sculpting techniques, product and nearly an hour of work. Maybe he planned to do twice-weekly blowdries on it. I have spent many days and dollars elsewhere experimenting with product, techniques and professional advice while attempting to cope. Derek pleasantly refunded the charges and apologized for the "inconvenience." This is far worse than inconvenient.

I have been to so many places and Haru Salon is the only one for me. I can trust them to do an outstanding job and leave me filling with confidence. I'll walk you through the process. First they don you with two capes and another item for your neck. Is it cold? They have a closet that warms up your jacket. Second they wash and massage your hair and your back in a massage chair. Next they cut your hair to your liking and walk you through the process - they will tell you what looks good and why. With the amount of meticulous care I've seen them take compared to anyone else blows me out the water. Another hair wash (okay this is new to me since I have never seen a second hair wash in the North) and styling, waxing, blow drying your hair. I've been going to her for over 6 years. Her station/salon are in the building behind Walgreens on Finley. When you enter the building, go up the stairs. When you reach the top of the stairs, the salon/station is in front of you on the left. I have been always able to find a parking place but there is parking along the side of the building as well.
