In addition to being great mechanics, these guys are honest and fair. We have several older German cars that Lakeside Automotive has worked on over the years. If you've never experienced out-of-warranty service before, it is far different than 'dealer service.' So many weird little (and big) things crop up that rarely do within the first 3-years of a cars life. The typical dealership will replace every part they can -- at full list price. Lakeside actually provides sound advice as to what 'must' be replaced versus what can wait a bit longer. They also have far better rates than any other shop or dealership I've found. They've never given me bad advice and have always done great work. I rarely post reviews because most businesses are mediocre. Lakeside is truly among the best. If you really like your car, there is no better place in the area to get it serviced. read more

I have owned Audi's for 11 years and have taken my car to another shop in town for all that time. Recently, I bought an A4 and I have not loved it. The motor doesn't run great and I keep having to take it in. I took it to Lakeside in hopes that I might have better luck trying a new Mechanic. And I am super pleased! I left my car with them for a day and a half (not a week) and they diagnosed the motor issue and had it resolved for less than they quoted me. Thanks Dave! As a former automotive technician and shop owner, I'm picky about who services our cars. Over the last year I've used Lakeside several times for maintenance and repair services. I have several criteria I use in choosing a repair facility: Is the owner there? Is the shop clean and organized? Are there adequate tools and equipment in evidence? Are the techs on commission or hourly pay? Are they honest and reliable? Is the job done right the first time and if not, are they anxious to make it right? Lakeside meets all my expectations and more. I had two particularly difficult diagnostic challenges which they met and were successful in correcting. One had to go back for a second time on a very busy snowy day. They dropped everything, took the job in and fixed it at no charge. To me that shows integrity and a desire to satisfy their customers. Notice I did not mention prices. This should not be the primary factor in choosing a repair shop. Granted it's important, but the items listed above are equally important. I have always been well treated at Lakeside and recommend them for foreign car service. And no, I'm not the owner's brother-in-law. read more

Finding a mechanic that is willing and able to work on a Land Rover is a tough find in our area. The closest dealership is in Grand Rapids so that was not an option for me. I was having suspension issues and needed my Land Rover serviced, I had heard mixed reviews about this place but gave it a shot because it was my only option. I called and made an appt two weeks out and ended up having to leave without having my car looked at because I was not made aware of the $130 diagnostic charge when I scheduled my appointment. $130 is a little ridiculous to me but whatever, what I did not like was that not being relayed to me during the time of scheduling especially since they're usually booking out 2-2.5 weeks. After waiting a month to have this issue resolved, I expressed that I was in a pinch and needed it fixed ASAP, they were able to get it done quicker than expected which was great. As a knowledgeable mechanic i was not impressed with way i was treated and how my car was fixed. Coming highly recommended, i thought i would pay top dollar to have someone fix my car (something electrical). After it took them 4 hours to even find out was wrong they tried to sell me on things that needed to be done that i had just replaced my self. So 500 dollars later they tell me car is fixed and i go to pick it up and it wouldn't start. Long story short they broke my ignition coil, sheared the bolts going into my block and wouldn't fix it unless i paid. To me thats not good business, i bought the part my self for a fraction of what they wanted and fixed it right there in the parking lot. Lessened learned i guess read more

I would not recommend this business to anyone. We took our 2004 Volvo in for a new rack which they accomplished in 2 (yes two) weeks. Looking forward to FINALLY getting the car back they then told us that the power steering went out. After fiddling around with it for another long time (2 business days short of one MONTH) we finally took delivery of it, even though they wrote on the service receipt that it was unsafe to drive. We took it to Traverse Motors to have them look it over. After spending the day giving it a thorough review and test drive, we were told there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with it and to pick it up. Here's the clincher - I went in after 3 weeks to see what the heck the deal was. They were rude and arrogant. They told me I had a "PROBLEM CAR" that the car was just plain "BAD" and that "it's beyond it's useful life." I told them what an inconvenience it has been to our family and asked what they would do for us in the meantime (i.e. rental etc.) and the mechanic (I think he is the owner also) cut me off and said " That's a heartwarming story but that's your own personal problem." Seriously. I am a TC Native, and RUDENESS does not go far in this town. Where ever this business came from, I recommend they go back there. Take your Volvo to Traverse Motors or Dave's Garage. They know what customer service is. read more
