I was disappointed by the items on display though as I could not find any of the records I was looking for. After collecting records for almost 50 year, I have become very selective :-) A lot of their vinyl are in the cabinates and "in-the-back". Although the location of this particular shoppe is not convenient for me, I dropped in as I was in the neighborhood. It is seldom that I get this far east of Vancouver and seized the opportunity. The people who run the store were friendly and gracious in that they allowed be to rummage through the "not yet cataloged", newly acquired items, Thankfully I did manage to find 3 items of interest, original pressings of "Small Faces", "Deep Purple", and one other. Although I considered these items expensive, I believe that I paid what they were worth. Like everyone else, I like to get a better deal. They were kind enough to play the Small Faces on their system, it was a little beat up and I needed to verify it's value. However, their sound system was ... amm .... er .... gee ... really bad. The speakers seam to be located at the back of the store and it sounded like the music was being played in a tunnel. A lot of bass was heard, that's about it. All I could determine was that the record did not skip :-( A shame, really, as they have spent a fair amount on the reset of the shop. The quality of the sound needs to be improved. It doesn't cost much to put some quality speakers throughout a store. Would I come back??? Purely on speculation? No, it is a long way to go! I would come back if they would be willing to work with me and put aside the items I am interested in. If I was guaranteed some good 'finds' then I would make the effort to drive there. cheers, Felix

If you dont see what you want or if the item isnt the grade you want...just ask. They'll have it somewhere or know who has it. The grades of records go from playable but rough covers to collector grade, so they hit all price points. When they are well stocked, its not uncommon to find multplie copies of an album with prices from a few bucks to $20...and he's probably got a primo copy somewhere, some ungraded ones waiting to be logged in, and a trashed version for free out in the boxes out front. I even check the free box outside for covers in better condition than one in my collection or for missing liner notes, etc. They guys are a wealth of knowledge. Just ask. They'll straight up tell you if the albumn is a first pressing, a re-issue, a bootleg, etc. They love music....and cats.

I was hoping to find any reggae or roots artists, but they have a limited selection of these genres. However, they have a wide selection of country, folk, rock, classical, and of the like genres. The staff were friendly and offering to help me search for any genre or artist I was looking for. I quickly thumbed through the Caribbean selection and bought two vinyls. Each was $5, so I thought that was a score. They also have a box of free vinyls outside you can rummage through.

Even better, if you're wanting to get INTO the listening pleasure that only vinyl albums can give, you can find all manner of turntables, receivers, speakers.. basically anything you need to get started on the journey of discovering the rich musical sound NOT found in the digitally compressed music world! The owner, Russell, is thoroughly familiar with the various styles of music and the artists/groups (both well known AND obscure) and is able to make recommendations to customers who may be new to this type of ear candy.. You'll be pleasantly surprised by the very reasonable prices of both the albums and record players, I've seen much more expensive ones at lesser quality in other secondhand stores -and online- so believe me, you'll come back again and again! Russ and team are great people who love getting to know their clientele's eclectic taste in music. It is a great feeling to walk in and have the staff mention an artist you like and that they have something new or similar in stock. The reason for my updated review is the new store layout. The entire store has been revamped and is more welcoming to browse. There is even a new listening station setup! This is great for checking if a record plays well or if some wacky album art catches the eye. The variety of records coming in from the community is getting better and better with the offered genres beginning to expand. Prices are unbeatable for the quality provided. This is largely due to the focus being on people who actually listen to their records. New services such as turntable repair/setup is great to see. They even have some models for sale! Consignment is still going strong for some of the more pristine records available. Even so, they aren't priced unreasonably. (Again, focused on getting these records into rotation asap with a new set of ears.) My personal favorite is seeing local bands/musicians having brought in music to be sold. They even have a couple patches, buttons, and denim jackets for sale!

What an amazing evening! In fact, it was one of the best comedy events I've ever had the pleasure of attending. The evening's title was perfectly chosen: Grief n' Giggles - Coffin Up Comedy. If that name alone doesn't make you smile, the performers certainly will. Perhaps the most unexpected part of the evening was the venue itself: Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre. Having only lived in White Rock for a short time, I had no idea this beautiful facility even existed. And before you let the words "funeral home" scare you off, don't. It's a stunning property with peaceful grounds that are perfect for a nature walk. Not exactly the first place that comes to mind when someone says, "Want to get some fresh air?" but maybe it should be. The brochure featured the tagline: "They say laughter is the best medicine, so we're throwing an event all about healing with humour -- no prescription required." Judging by the roughly 300 people in attendance, I'd say the prescription was filled. The evening was expertly hosted by Cliff Prang, who didn't miss a beat. OMG, he was hilarious. Melanie Rose and Vanessa Woznow rounded out the comedy roster, and together they delivered a night of laughter that had the audience roaring. You know how it is when you walk into a venue you've never been to before. There's the cautious step through the doorway, followed by the obligatory scan of the room to make sure you haven't accidentally wandered into the wrong event. In my case, I was greeted by no fewer than five different people: one welcomed me, two signed me in, one escorted me to the elevator, and finally there was the handsome gentleman whose sole duty appeared to be pressing the elevator button. I've never felt so important in my life. Once on the second floor, I discovered an entire reception area dedicated to mingling, complete with beautifully arranged buffet tables offering complimentary food and beverages. This came as a complete surprise since admission was by donation only. I had come prepared for comedy, not hors d'oeuvres. Needless to say, I adapted quickly. Later, the same elevator gentleman took the time to point out a beautifully handcrafted horse-drawn coffin carriage dating back to the 1890s. It was an extraordinary piece of craftsmanship and a fascinating glimpse into local history. Stunning woodwork and well worth a look. A special shout-out goes to two lovely ladies, Jeanette and Rosetta, whom I met while enthusiastically sampling the buffet. Rosetta is a vivacious volunteer at the Peace Arch Hospice Society Thrift Store, which apparently provides significant funding for the Society's programs. Another shout-out goes to the lady seated beside me, whose infectious laugh kept me laughing throughout the show. Sometimes laughter is contagious in the very best way. Finally, a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers and organizers who helped make this first-class event possible. From the warm welcome to the delicious refreshments and the outstanding comedy, everything was thoughtfully planned and beautifully executed. If this was my first Peace Arch Hospice Society event, it certainly won't be my last.
