We went for the first time to Red's. What a joke! We were seated immediately and ordered within 5 minutes of being seated. We waited for over 50 minutes for non-existent burger and fries for each of us. We watched multiple tables being served salads but very few entrees ever left the kitchen. We paid for our beverages and left after being repeatedly promised our food would be out in "just a minute". I realize it wasn't our server's fault and I think she was just as frustrated as we were. We had lunch yesterday at Reds alehouse. From the time that we got there till the moment we left everyone who worked there was very attentive. We sat in an area that was surrounded by televisions, so it was a little bit noisy. I had a chicken salad, which was fresh greens various vegetables, cranberries, and sliced grilled chicken. It was delicious. My husband ordered a cheeseburger and fries. The meat in the cheeseburger was very good. The fries were so good. We couldn't believe it. They were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside salted just the right amount. Other words the fries were just great. The prices were reasonable. Our bill was less than $25. read more

As you know, a lot of restaurants are closed on Sunday in the Crossvill area so we rely on the website to indicate the hours a restaurant is open before we drive there for a meal. The Red's Ale website indicated Sunday hours were open until 6 PM. When we got to the restaurant the sign on the door also listed the Sunday hours as open to 6 PM. On Sunday 4/6 we (4 of us) arrived at your restaurant at 5:05 PM for dinner since the website said hours were open until 6 pm. We were shocked when they told us the kitchen was already closed and we would not be able to eat there. Every eating establishment and retail store I have ever seen honors the hours they have listed on their website. If you get there at 5:30, and the closing hours are 6 PM you are served like normal. At the very least there should be a note on the hours that the kitchen closes 1 hour before the posted closing time. read more

I'm torn between 3 to 4 stars on this one...compared to an average chain restaurant, Reds Ale House would have 4 stars. Compared to a small town mom/pop restaurant, I'd give them 3 stars. Highlights of our meal: New England Clam Chowder, Chili and Wings were on point. All items in the menu are priced well with good portion sizes. The fried seafood, fried green beans and country fried steak all tasted like prepared frozen items...doesn't mean they were bad, they just weren't anything to knock your socks off. The ranch was average tasting. Sweet potato waffle fries were good, but I sprinkled sugar on them (no honey drizzle or topper). The homemade meatloaf meal was enjoyed by 3 in our group- note that they serve it with a brown gravy. Dinner for 5 of us- including 2 appetizers and 20 wings- was $112. Not a bad price, at all! For Covid curious guests: we were the only people wearing masks (servers are not masked up). They did wipe down our table before we sat, but pretty confident that's only because there were dishes still there from previous guests. Waitress takes your cup to the back to refill sodas. New to this area and in town for a few days we looked for anything close to where we were staying and found this local spot. We didn't want to drive far so Reds appealed. As we pulled up we noticed the parking lot was full which is always a good sign. It was off the beaten path which is another positive for us. The staff was super friendly and seated us quickly despite the rush. They have a bar in the back with karaoke and trivia, but we chose the restaurant space. The inside has an average pub feel, but the welcome and friendliness made us feel glad we had chosen this spot. The waitress was super helpful and got me a chilled wine quickly which helped with travel fatigue! The food took a bit but when it came out was crispy and hot and just right. We had fries, a grilled cheese with tomato and a side salad. It sounds like simple fare but they added personal touches that made the flavors explode. I was also impressed by the wait staff and care for any slight changes we needed. Everyone inside was having a good time and kept remarking on the tasty food. Relocation on Peavine - Today was our second visit to the new location. First time, was just OK. This time, it was a disaster. After we questioned what was going on and why it took so long to get our food, this was the explanation. 1. They didn't get their truck delivery in the morning, so they are out of a lot of food. 2. One of the cooks quit, so they are short handed. 3. They have several pieces of equipment down. 4. They don't have a big enough cooler, so they can't see what they have in it, therefore don't know what they need to order. 5. They don't have enough servers. We waited over one hour for our food to be served. We had to ask for a second cup of coffee, and were never checked on to see if we wanted more after that. They are definitely understaffed! As we were finishing our food, we overheard the waitress telling another table that the wait for their food would be 45 minutes. And as we were leaving, they were shutting down the kitchen. I don't know why they are having such a hard time in this new location, but they need to figure it out and get a manager in there that knows how to run a restaurant or they are going to go out of business. He made a second choice, and they were out of that as well. Ribeye was not grilled, it was cooked in the oven. The mashed potatoes and gravy were not homemade-tasted like box potatoes and jar gravy. Chicken strips were just out of the freezer and fried quick. Cottage cheese was warm. Upon returning to our resort, the neighbors were getting home too. We were greeted with a notice that they wouldn't be able to take our dinner order for 20-25 minutes due to the kitchen being backed up which was fine.
