This is what America is all about, small town with an outstanding local eatery. If you're looking for some homemade food, look no farther. The country fried steak is as good as mamas. It'll make you want to go to the top of the smokies and shout, so that Bigfoot will know how good the food is here. Whenever I'm in Crossville this will be my new flavor-town pit stop.

This place doesn't have curb appeal but the inside was charming, the service was great and the food was delicious!

Food is great and so is the service. We come here a couple times a week for lunch. One of these days I'll make it by for breakfast.

The space is attractive, though it's far from being any sort of "tavern". It's rather loud, industrial. The worst aspect of the space are the tables for 2, which are small cocktail tables, really sized to hold a couple drinks, not dinner for 2. One is left with the impression that they're more interested in fitting as many diners as possible into the space rather than providing a fine dining experience. So much so that the wait staff apologized for the table size several times. Menu varies with the season, though we found most items on the online "sample" menu were on the dinner menu that night as well. Roasted oysters were plated very attractively, the oysters were plump, and the topping tasty, though several of mine were refrigerator cold - clearly made in advance and not properly heated for serving. Starter of sourdough bread with chili oil. The bread was wonderfully rustic, the chili oil was actually garlic oil. For my main, I had the "signature" trout. Pleasant enough, a nicely cooked filet swimming in a brothy sauce. Accompanied by a few small rounds of potato, what amounted to a single thinly sliced fingerling, I left hungry and considered stopping for a burger on the way home. The wife was underwhelmed with the duck. Kudos for providing an upscale dinner destination in Sewanee. Though not an option that we'd consider revisiting.

Taylor was our server and she was PHENOMENAL. from making us feel welcome to making us never want to leave, she had the best personality. She was prompt and checked on us many times to ensure we were enjoying our time. We ordered a couple cocktails, the blackberry mule (something like that haha) was great. I had 2! for dinner we had the spinach dip and steak nachos from the appetizer sections. The balsamic glaze on the nachos was my favorite part, just the right amount of tangy with savory. Will absolutely be coming back for those again! This is a beautiful restaurant, from the entrance to the clean and neat bathrooms. Will 100% be back.

Now, the place had more noise than a family reunion after someone mentions politics--two teenage softball teams carrying on, laughing, living large. Hard to fault that. Better than silence so thick you can hear your own regrets. Food showed up quick, which is about all you can ask when you're hungry enough to consider eating the menu. And it was good--honest good. Not "tell your mama about it" good, but solid, dependable, "yep, I'd order that again" good. Prices didn't make you feel like you'd just financed somebody's boat, either. Beer was cold--like it ought to be, like it better be--and the waitress understood to be there exactly when we needed her and vanishing when we didn't. That's an art form. Now the atmosphere... well, it had all the charm of a place that once had big decorating plans and then decided, "Eh, this'll do." A little on the bare side. Felt like a Friday night that never quite got dressed up. But I'll tell you this--I'd go back. And that, right there, is about the highest praise you can give a place without writing a love letter to the chef.

Every one of the sides looks so good and fresh that I wanted to get each one of them just to try it! The fish was cooked perfectly and was nice and tender. The added little muffin I didn't expect was a nice touch and delicious. The collard greens were SO GOOD. I'd get them again. So flavorful and cooked well. The beets were fresh and the goat cheese carried so much flavor. For the desserts, we got the carrot cake with pecans and chocolate cheesecake. Both were soooo good. I would get both of them again, especially the carrot cake which was so warm and moist. And the candied pecans were such a nice complement to the cake - not too sweet at all. The ambience is super nice and fresh, and our server was so sweet and engaging. The hostess as well. Everybody there was so nice and welcoming. We were seated promptly, our waiter was friendly and attentive, and our drinks and appetizer came out quickly, so the evening started off on a positive note. Unfortunately, when it was time to order our entrees, we were told that several menu items were unavailable. I ended up having to choose something I normally wouldn't have ordered because so many of the options I wanted weren't available. My son enjoyed his meal, but my chicken gnocchi was very disappointing. It had almost no flavor, and the texture was so soft that it was more like mush than a pasta dish. To make matters worse, the air conditioning wasn't working, and while I understand equipment can fail, the dining room was quite warm despite several fans running. Our server was kind and did his best, but overall the experience didn't match what I would expect from a high-end restaurant. Spending nearly $200 on a birthday dinner that ended up feeling average at best was disappointing. I hope the restaurant can address the menu availability, food quality, and facility issues because I really wanted this to be a memorable celebration for my son for all the right reasons. I really want to come back and have a better experience.
