Reds Garage cares about the customer and works tirelessly to get to the bottom of the repair or issue. My truck had a frustrating hard to diagnose electrical issue. They took their time and worked around my schedule and took their time to explain all that work that was done to finally rectify the problem. They very fairly only charged me for the initial repair and did not overcharge me after the issue was discovered. I highly recommend this place and worth the time and effort to go to their location in Port Chester. read more

These guys come to our rescue literally. We were driving from NYC to Boston and just happened to break down 1 minute from Reds Garage. We saw the battery light on our dashboard in NY and knew we were taking a chance driving home. These guys were able to start the car and get it into the garage & assess the electrical system. We ended up buying an alternator, battery & belt and it was on the expensive side but competitive I think. Who wouldn't be happy to pay what it took when your broke down and stranded like we were. However, being four hours from home and broke down to then have our car up & running a couple hours later. Priceless as the commercial says! I came here because my van was making a rumbling sound as I drove it on the road. Wanted to make sure the transmission was or wasn't the issue and see if anything else is "wrong". I came back a couple days later and all they did was drive the van and tell me "it's probably the torque converter... oh and there's a clunking sound that's really really bad but if you want us to check that out it'll be another charge." So I paid $175 for you guys to test drive for 5 minutes and "think the torque converter is bad"? Yeah right. Screw this place. Don't come here read more

I recently had a flat tire that needed to be plugged. Went to the big local tire retailers and they were only interested in selling me a new tire, refusing to repair the existing tire that had a nail in the tread. Went to Red's Garage. No problem. My car was making crazy sounds but only when warmed up and being driven on the highway (which is annoying to try to explain... so I recorded the noise with my phone.). I first went to another shop in Harrison who took the car for the entire day to tell me that they couldn't get the car to make the noise (and that I was basically crazy) but as soon as I had Benito & Joe at Red's garage hear the recording, they knew what it was and it was a simple, quick & inexpensive fix!! I can finally commute to work without something that sounds like the rattling chains of a ghost in the undercarriage!! I obviously know nothing about cars and could have been taken for every cent but the guys at Red's are not only knowledgeable but trustworthy.... and a pleasure to deal with. This is "my place" now. Joe Jr. (?) really hustled to get parts, sending a runner for the alternator when it was likely it wouldn't get there by end of day using the source's delivery. Oscar and the whole team hustled to get us back on the road much more quickly than I expected, and worked at the very end of the business day. Joe Jr. offered the battery and belt, but did not push at all, just good counsel from an experienced source. Oscar did a great job getting everything installed in good time and we were back on the road with a beautifully running car. Even Joe Sr.'s (?) tip to get dinner and wait out the crippling tri-state rush hour was helpful! read more

I had to have an interlock installed (embarrassing) and Reds handled the installation perfectly. The best part of Reds is that they can calibrate the interlock device as well and perform service on the vehicle since their employees know how to operate the interlock device. I was in a complete bind this past Saturday. My car was damaged in a hit and run. The front bumper was hanging on by a thread. Red's saved the day by quickly and effectively securing the bumper - on the spot, with no prior warning - to make the car drivable until the auto body shop opened on Monday. Honest, reliable, quick - we could not have had a better experience! These guys are the best. We brought our 10 year old Subaru Forester into the Subaru Stamford dealership for a rattling noise and we were quoted 11K to repair a "mechanical failure" with the engine. Thank god we brought it to Red's for a second opinion. Joe Jr. squeezed us in to be seen right away and upon arriving did a quick check of our engine oil to discover that there was literally no oil. Can you believe this is how Subaru Stamford returned our car to us?! Especially after we paid them $700 for a synthetic oil change/tune up less than four months prior... Upon further inspection, Red's determined that aside from not having oil it in the engine was running fine. When we picked our car up - Joe Sr. took the time to show us how to check the oil and top it off ourselves. Everyone from Joe Sr., Joe Jr., to Benito at the front desk was awesome, helpful, professional and knowledgeable. We will absolutely be returning with all of our automotive needs. read more

This my 2nd visit to Red's Garage. I had 2 bad wheel bearings and even specified that they be replaced with SKFs. Some other mechanics would give you a hard time but not Benito. At the end I got a car was dead silent and even the normal creaks and groans seem to be gone. The handbrake was adjusted and there was problem with the rear brakes and a broken shock absorber spring (Subaru repairs it under a recall). Did they try to sell me on fixing the brake and the spring ?(they didn't know about the recall) No sir. They left it up to me not saying another word. Maybe a tad expensive but then again I specified they use a non-standard part and I'm that cost me a little at least. Still cheaper than the dealer and I trust them to do good work. Joe even drove my car from down the street to right in front of us so wouldn't have to walk in the rain. Nice honest people that do good work. What more could you ask? read more

I have a 2003 Silverado 2500 with a drama and a ZF 6 speed manual transmission, which is a rare setup. I have been having problems with the drive train for about a year and a half now. Originally replaced the clutch and flywheel at a different service shop. The problem was never fixed. Joe Sr. took this project on and ultimately fixed the problem by replacing the new clutch and flywheel with original equipment. Seems that the original two piece flywheel is essential to proper operation. What impressed me was that Joe took the time to research the problem before simply starting to replace things. I would recommend this shop to anyone -- knowledgeable and fair. read more

These guys are the real thing. I have a Ford E250, 2003. I had a problem with the brake line and transmission lines leaking due to rot, probably from road salts. I am pretty handy and usually fix things myself. Ford no longer makes the tubing for this model, too old. So these guys went ahead and created the new hoses ( metal ) and got my truck running back to normal both times. I was afraid when I took it in for the transmission lines as the oil was already run out. They could have easily said the transmission is shot but were honest enough to repair the hoses, put the transmission fluid in and it is running great again. Their prices are reasonable and they are honest. I am going back to get more work done when I need to and won't be afraid of them ripping me off. A great workshop. I highly recommend them. read more

Ok, this place is frickin awesome. I haven't seen service like this in a long, long time. These guys are really trying to help you out. They do a great job, are extremely responsive, and are very reasonable. They pick up the phone when you call and actually call you back when they say they will. I was in shock / truly impressed with the staff. Benito is at the front desk and Joe Jr is the brains behind the operation. Both are good guys and I highly recommend this place. Red's Garage is a great place with friendly people that went out of their way to help our family get back on the road when we were in a bind. We were traveling from the Philadelphia area to Vermont with our pop up camper when the tire on the camper blew out at 7am, leaving us on the side of Rt 15. To make things worse, when I put the spare on the camper, it wouldn't hold air. After calling a few other places in the area that were unable/unwilling to help, I called Red's and had the camper towed there. They went out of their way on a busy Friday morning to get two tires ordered for us and we were back on the road within a few short hours. We brought my mother's car in to have a tire repaired & to buy new windshield wipers. We thought we would have to leave the tire, but the great guys at Red's repaired it right away. They also put the tire back on, put the spare back in the trunk, installed the windshield wipers & even cleaned the windshield! Been there twice both times had to confirm repairs and found they wanted to do more than really needed. Over the phone they described an issue with my radiator but when I went to see the problem before approving repair found it not needed.
