When we got them to the barn and they relaxed, the Strangles Virus took over in both of them - but particularly in the Mare. Vetwerx North referred me to LEMC. I got her there in the nick of time as a tracheotomy had to be performed in the parking lot for her to breathe. The physician assigned to us was Dr. Sarah Hyde. She was incredibly professional, instantly had a love for Mom and foal, and stayed up with them through the night to care for them. She never missed a phone call from me or to me. I almost lost them. Dr. Hyde was a champion for them. I know other staff had to be involved as well and I thank you for saving them. They are healthy and happy and will be coming to North Carolina to be with us after their training is complete at Brittany's Riding Center in Lafayette, Colorado. They had been through so much I felt like they needed to be still for a bit and enjoy life and learn horse manners before transporting to NC. They both spent 10 days in intensive care. The bill was exactly what they told me it would be. I shared with them my limit and they honored that. I had a wonderful experience thanks to Dr. Hyde. Thank you Sarah! I contacted Littleton Equine Medical Center's emergency line and was told a vet was on their way. What arrived nearly an hour later was NOT an experienced veterinarian, but a young intern who admitted she barely knew how to use the imaging equipment and had limited emergency experience. Despite OBVIOUS signs of severe neurological trauma and a broken neck (you could literally see the break), including stage 3 ataxia, she told me my horse was likely fine, prescribed Banamine and Vitamin E, and left. None of the requested imaging was done, no thorough exam, and worst of all--she didn't even palpate my horse's neck. The next morning, Brailey could barely breathe or walk, was clearly in critical condition, and I called the clinic again begging for help. Multiple veterinarians told me to trailer her into the hospital based on the previous day's notes from the first vet. After a lengthy, emotional conversation, my husband convinced them to send someone back out. A different vet arrived and within FIVE MINUTES discovered that Braileys first cervical vertebra (C1) was broken just behind her ears, by simply touching her neck (no imaging needed). She confirmed Brailey was now stage 4 ataxic, and we had to euthanize her immediately to stop her suffering. This was not a case of simple misdiagnosis. This was institutional negligence. Littleton Equine Medical Center knowingly dispatched an underqualified intern, alone, on a major holiday with no supervision and no ability to escalate the case when it became clear she was out of her depth. When we spoke to the leadership afterward, they offered no apology--only excuses, and told us we should be grateful we had more time with our horse. That time was spent watching her suffer. The leadership acted as if we only complained because we didn't want to pay the bill (which we paid in full)... then later said they would no longer provide any veterinary services to us after we asked for an apology for their malpractice. This review is not about blaming the intern who was placed in an impossible situation. It's about the hospital that failed her, failed my family and failed my horse. No animal should suffer like mine did because a medical center chooses to send unsupported, inexperienced staff to life-or-death emergencies. I hope this review and my video helps prevent another tragedy like this from happening again. TAKE YOUR HORSE SOMEWHERE ELSE. The vets and techs immediately began to help and diagnose, which included a clear treatment plan, and eventually surgery, all of which were necessary to save our dog. Dr. Thaeder, Dr, Martic, Dr. Schultz, Alexis, Sam, Becca, Kim, (and several others I'm undoubtedly forgetting) saved our dog in the most impressive, transparent, and compassionate way that I never knew existed. We witnessed every step of the process to diagnose and restore our dog's health. If you want to stay all night with your pet, you can. If you want to watch their x-rays, they have a window for that. If your pet needs an operation, you can observe that from a window if you want. If you need a private room, there are several. Apart from the deep knowledge and passion these vets clearly have, they treated our dog like a member of their own family and he clearly fell in love with them. He's already getting back to his ornery self each day, and we are so grateful!

We ended up having to wait about 2.5 hours from when we came in to when our boy could get into surgery to repair the damage, but they were checking on us the whole time. The pricing was not nearly as bad as I expected, honestly pretty similar to what his primary vet would have charged for the same services. Dr. Pierce was very good about sitting down to explain options and providing clear guidance about what he thought would be best. So glad to know that this place is here in case we ever need emergency vet services again!

My rabbit, Penny, started limping a week before Christmas. Critter Care was the only place that…read morecould fit her in the week of that accepted exotics. The exam and X-ray showed she dislocated her ankle. Dr. Liza explained that because of the shape of the joint and the lack of a hard brace to hold it into place exactly where it needs to stay meant that it would be hard to get it to heal correctly without a surgery needing to be done, but that it was still possible. The three options were to let it heal with minimal bracing so she wouldn't get a ton of atrophy, a surgery where pins would be used to pin the joint in place while it healed (with or without a second surgery to get the pins taken back out), or to possibly amputate. I thought it would be best for her to keep her foot, so the first two were better than amputating for me. We decided to brace it as best as she could with bandages and come back the the following week to check on it. At that appointment we'd determine if she would have enough scar tissue to try to set the joint in place again to possibly heal without surgery, or if a surgery could be performed same day. Dr. Liza was so incredibly thorough about all the risks involved for all of the options and I felt very comfortable with the decision I made. She was up front about never having performed the pin surgery before, and informing me that she would do research on it between now and the second appointment to let me know if she felt comfortable doing it. She called me to let me know she wouldn't feel comfortable performing it, and didn't want Penny to be a test since it's such an invasive procedure on such a small rabbit. She tried setting it in place again, but couldn't get it to line up perfectly, and gave me information to a couple different places that may have doctors that could. For anyone needing this information, no one within a 90 mile radius of Denver will do that surgery. It was a pain the the butt to get answers from CSUs Veterinary program, (if anyone in CO would perform it, it would be this place, since they do a lot with exotics) but did at least they picked up eventually. I was able to get refills on Penny's medications easily during the time needed to find out the university could not do it. I was very happy that Dr. Liza was quick to respond to emails whenever I had questions, and she even called us to check up on Penny! Penny is able to get around pretty well without either surgery and without medications currently. I know that may change in the future, but in the meantime she is happy hopping around with both feet. I will absolutely be going to Critter Care every single time I need veterinary services, especially for my rabbit! Their service has been unparalleled!
