Had the best prime rib I've had in a long long time. It was a great cut of meat done perfectly. Today's prime rib dinners are often tough and filled with chewy grizzle. Good service is why a one star. Disgusting food. I live 5 miles from here. My relatives have frequently dined here over 40 years. Owners have changed from time to time. The smell of a very old building and possibly sewer problems is what hits you right in the face when you walk in. Years ago the steaks were primo. Now there is wayyy to much seasoning on them. A good steak doesn't need that. $4.99 for a salad that was obviously from the day before. Wilted, poor presentation. In fact all of the food was unattractive. Zero presentation. My husband and I were so looking forward to having a meal at Redwood steakhouse last night. It had been many years, since before their closing, that we enjoyed their steaks and salad bar. Unfortunately, we did not find the Service or Food as good as we remembered. I so wanted to enjoy our meal. There were only two servers and their stress was showing. We were quickly rushed into the bar area instead of seating in the restaurant portion. Our wait time was considerably long. The food was subpar. My Parmesan crusted cod was, underdone, not baked enough. Also, the menu said the meals came with two sides plus coleslaw. We were told only one side and coleslaw. Coleslaw tasted like store-bought. My husband's steak bites were a little better, but his salad looked to be not as fresh as it should have been. Overall, this experience was disappointing, but because we want to support local businesses, we will probably give this place one more try and hope for a much better meal. read more

Walked out of 4-5 restaurants due to wait times being 30-1 hr. We waited about 20 minutes, due to the staffing issues across the state. I took my mom, who is 81, to Redwood and the service, quality of food and timing of the servers was all way more than I initially expected. I don't usually buy steaks from restaurants as they are almost always tough, too salty or cold. Not here! The rib eye was done to perfection and it was huge! Went "Up North" for the week and we decided to celebrate my 50th birthday at the Redwood (my first time eating there) what a Great decision it was! The Ribeye steak was one of the best steaks I have ever had- cooked to perfection. Prices were reasonable, The wait staff were all super friendly- And our server Phillip gave us some great suggestions as well as making sure we were satisfied with everything. Small town dining at its very best Our extended group of Garland golfers (12-16) has been eating here each year since the mid 1980s. We enjoy it so much it too has become part of our Fathers Day golf outing tradition. It wouldn't have gotten that way if we had ever had a bad experience. It's actually a fairly good-sized restaurant considering it is located relatively out in the sticks. Clearly, the owners are trying to offer the best meals in the area and that commitment shows through everything they do. Known for their steaks, they still bring out a massive platter of various raw, cuts of steak for you to choose your own by looks and size. The old guy running the grill once again got all of ours cooked exactly as we individually requested. Another nod to nostalgia is the bar cheese and crackers that arrive at every table before your order is taken. They are a perfect complement to a pre-dinner drink from the bar. And the salad bar (extra cost with a meal) is worth the trip. I tried it and found some good homemade potato salad and a pot of home-cooked baked beans in addition to all the normal stuff. In summation, when you are this far from what most of us call civilization these days, it is comforting to know that places like the Redwood still exist and still offer everything that is good about small town America. read more

The Redwood Steakhouse is worth driving to Lewiston for. One of the best salad bars in northern Michigan with shrimp, herring, plus all the standard fare. My wife and I have eaten here several times and love it. If you order steak they bring out a tray so you choose your own. However, my favorite is the whitefish. A nice quiet place for an excellent meal. Also if you catch Mike Riddly on a Saturday night when he is preforming in the bar it's an evening you'll remember. Ask him to sing the UofM and MSU fight songs! read more

Stay away from this mismanaged, zero service "restaurant." By far the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Can't comment on the food because after our server lost our ticket and an hour of waiting, we received the wrong meals. We got one drink when we sat down and the glasses were empty for another half hour. The place was empty (should've saw the signs when we came in) and 3 tables walked in after our order was placed. All 3 received their meals, paid their checks and left before we ever received our wrong plates. A pseudo-manager came over later and said our meals would be comp'd. Shortly after, the owner walks up and timidly tries to apologize, offering us one free meal. Explaining that we were already told our incorrect meals were on them, he started to get angry and told us we should have been appreciative. I said we wouldn't even eat them if that was the case and leave. The owner stormed off and chased us to our car where he took down our license plate and proceeded to call the sheriff. Ended up paying for half our bill for the food we didn't eat and left. If you're in the mood for a ridiculously obnoxious experience, this is the place for you. If your idea of dining out includes even mediocre service, stay away! read more

First and last trip here since new owners. Found the place to be way overpriced. I ordered a BBQ plate, it included 1/4 rack of ribs, 1/2 lb of pulled pork and 3 chicken wings. It was terrible. The ribs were way over done to the point that they would not pull from the bone. The pulled pork was gummy and also over done. The chicken wings were crunchy and hard to eat. But the bourbon BBQ sauce was homemade and very good, the potato salad was some of the best I have ever had. Iused to love going here but will never go again. read more

One of our favorite stops when snowmobiling or riding ATV's in the Lewiston area. There is a more upscale formal dining room perfect for a romantic evening or celebration. They also have a casual cocktail lounge perfect for riders of all sorts. Pizza is very good and a terrific value for that brew break on your next riding adventure! read more

I have nothing but good things to say about the Redwood Steakhouse! The food and service were phenomenal! The salad bar was really well stocked. Of course there was everything you could want for a salad and there was shrimp, cottage cheese, homemade baked beans, a variety of pasta salads and a bean salad that was amazing! A family member got the steak tray and it was very good. The pecan crusted chicken salad is seriously to die for!! Our waitresses name was Ashley- if you go to the steakhouse ask for her! She was so sweet and seriously the best waitress- she was always checking up with us, asking if we needed anything and was as sweet as can be. Overall everything was top notch. This place has two menus. A nicer dinner menu, and a bar menu. We weren't looking to pay $20+/plate when we went, so we ordered from the bar. The bar food wasn't anything special, just sandwiches. The Philly steak was dry. The Reuben had thick sliced corned beef but not a lot of it. We had to ask for service a few times, but that's not necessarily indicative of the whole restaurant. We try it once every summer hopeing it will get better. At $20 a meal you would think that their salad would be more than some bagged iceberg lettuce with nothing on it. Saturday evening I took my girlfriend to this place, I have never been there before so we drove over from Alpena about 60 miles away. I was a little concerned about the one review but felt it was worth the trip anyway. After all, it's not always destination but instead the journey. I had a Rib Eye and she had Prime Rib. The atmosphere was a little in need of some updating but not a big deal, the waitress was very pleasant and attentive to our needs. The salad was good, my honey mustard dressing was very tasty, I had red potatoes, done nicely my girlfriend had REAL mashed potatoes. As for the steaks....they were both done to order and tasted great! So I'm not sure where Aaron R ate, or where he otherwise eats, but I was impressed. The only thing I would suggest is they offer another vegetable with the meal, it can't cost that must to do so. I am sure I will make the trip to the Redwood Steak House in Lewiston again! read more

Nice family restaurant. Food was okay, nothing spectacular. Tables are way to close for me. I don't want to be chair to chair with another table, keep bumping into the other person's chair every time I move and hear their conversation. The steak was cooked perfectly but it was a poor cut of meat. It was tough and had absolutely no taste, not what you would expect for a $33.00 tenderloin. The wine they served was fine but they never gave us a wine chiller of any kind just left the bottle on the table..
