The best thing we can say about this practice is that many of the staff here are exceptionally friendly, but there is at least one hygienist whom is very belittling to her patients. Also, at least one Dentists here seems like they'd prefer to be elsewhere, instead of in the office, helping out the patients: I'm not sure why a Dentist would allow a patient walk-out after discovering a cracked tooth, without offerring any kind of plan to resolve the issue, leaving it to eventually fracture several months later. In the end, we decided to leave this practice due mostly to their billing practices which are highly disorganized and dishonest (as another reviewer mentioned). They almost always send your bills out months (as in 6-9 months) after your office visit and then when you pay that bill, they'll send you another follow-up bill stating that you still owe even more money....for the same visit that you just paid for!?! When I took the time to cross reference what the insurance company said we owed vs what this Dentist said we owed and I found out that numbers didn't match, I realized that there was something sketchy going on with their billing. At one point, being pressed for time while waiting for them to forward some of our dental records, I was duped into paying more than what our insurance company said we owed. Later, when I called the billing folks for the previously promised reimbursement of said overpaid funds, we were told that they would not refund the overpayment, even though they had promised to do so during previous conversations: Classic bait and switch! Find another dentist if you don't want to spend your time playing whack-a-mole trying to figure out if/when you've paid-off your bills in full. read more

I am VERY impressed with Kr. Kuratomi. I was once, myself, a dental assistant. I have had a negative experience with a dentist in Santa Cruz who advertises on the radio to be an expert in "sedation dentistry". I can only say you will need to be sedated in order to receive the BILL for the exorbitant charges. Additionally, said "sedation" dentist said I had two cavities that needed filling and that I needed root planing. I DID one half of my mouth which my co-pay was $400.00, I was due back to do the other half of my mouth soon. Because of a variety of reasons,(not the least of which I felt his office had "shady" practices) I did not return and went to see Dr. Kuratomi instead; as he was HIGHLY recommended to me. I am SO glad that I did. Not only did Dr. Kuratomi NOT find any cavities (whcih the OTHER dentist said I had) he said I did NOT need any root planing! My gums are in good shape, in actual fact! When Dr. Kuratomi was doing the exam, he was EXCEPTIONALLY gentle, seriously such a gentle touch. He has state of the art, camera equipment and could show me each and every tooth he was examining and was discussing my teeth as we viewed them. The staff at Dr. Kuratomi's office is very friendly and accomodating and gracious. If you've had a bad experience, you're in for a treat if you visit Dr. Kuratomi. My husband and daughter will be booking appointments with Dr. Kuratomi soon. read more

Dr Kuratomi and his staff are great! My husband went to Dr Kuratomi to get a second opinion and got such a better and cheaper pathway to teeth reconstruction that he has stayed with him ever since. When my husband had to see an oral surgeon to get some teeth extracted (a Kuratomi referral), Dr. Kuratomi called our house on a Saturday afternoon, the day after surgery, to find out how my husband was doing. He has called our house twice to ask about my husband's well being after some tricky dentistry. He has saved us a lot of money, and his hygenists are great, too. Dr. Kuratomi and his staff are exceptional chill and personable, and they do good work. They confirm every appointment via e-mail and even sent me a free movie ticket for referring one of my friends to them. During my exam, Dr. Kuratomi used a fiber-optic camera to show me my teeth, point out the good and the bad and explain it all. Awesome. It turned out I had decay on my wisdom tooth, so I made an appointment to get a filling. But he recommended I get a referral to the oral surgeon and have my wisdom tooth removed instead. Wisdom teeth tend to be hard to brush because they're so far back, he said, and I'd already had several cavities filled in them. So it wouldn't be cost effective for me to continue getting them filled when I would probably just need to get them removed later on anyway. And it's easier to get them removed when you're younger. I wish my previous dentist had told me that instead of just going ahead with three expensive fillings! read more
