Love having the Reed opera house in Salem, and the management team is doing a terrific job with all of the recent updates & renovations! I am currently living only about a block away from the Reed and it's a total bright spot in downtown Salem!! Can't wait to continue to follow all of the progress they make & do my part to support the local businesses. I also got married in the ballroom, and it was a terrific experience. Could not be happier. Jodie was amazing!!

Fun decor on the elevator doors at the Reed Opera House!

The Reed Opera House Mall is located in downtown Salem, not far at all from the Salem Center Mall. Much of what is in this building now is little Mom and Pop shops. Some of them are intriguing and others are definitely passable. Probably one of my favorite shops was a soap shop. They had some soaps with wonderful fragrances but it was a bit spendy. There are several displays detailing the history of the opera house and it's pretty cool to walk in and look around at the interior. It's a nice little detour while strolling around in downtown Salem.

Not much to do here anymore. I wish there were more practical shops instead of the oddities that keep calling this place home.

Basket of rolls: apparently these are quite famous and I can see why. Light and airy and the garlic butter is to die for. I coding even get a picture of the full basket because everyone dig in too quickly BBQ russet potato fries: good cut of potato, good portion size but a little salty. The ranch was good and I loved the Marion berry bbq sauce. Lobster and shrimp stuffed mushroom: Wouldn't get again, but good portion size and great seafood. Street corn dip: too many chips for the amount of dip but it was warm and cheeses and delicious, was missing a little bit of spice. Coconut curry squash soup: BEST thing on the menu, 3 of us ordered more to go. Absolutely delicious. Caprese chicken radiatore: loved this pasta. For having cream and pesto I was surprised at how light this pasta was. Really good and didn't leave me feeling bloated. Loved our waitress, she was wonderful. Very quaint and italianesque. Things to note: One restroom in the back of restaurant. Street metered parking. Great downtown Salem location.

A few parties arrived after us and did have to wait for a bit. I had the cucumber refresher mocktail and the wild pear salad, both were great and I have no complaints. My friend got the quiche of the day with a cup of soup and an iced tea. I believe she enjoyed all of those. Service was good, especially given how busy they were, and we had a nice time!

However, the Kohl's in the center had customers and employees with a clean and neat shopping experience. Now that JCPenney (and long before that, Liberty House) is gone, the "Marion Parkade" near Kohl's and cinnebarre became more popular due to its skybridge right into Kohl's. It was still easy to park and all kinds of cars are parked here. I felt very safe leaving my vehicle. If one parks in the other free downtown garage, you will be in for a short outdoor walk to enter the center. Today the food court was busy and a new Italian restaurant is coming soon to the first level where Honey baked Ham was. There are two large arcades on the second level. If you want to visit some local shops or Ross, those are here too. Many mall employees were on duty during my visit for security and housekeeping. Definitely still a mall for teens & early 20somethings. An older customer might find more interesting stuff walking south into downtown Salem's streets.
