We got to visit with the sheep that were trimming the grass in the vineyard, and enjoyed watching the sun go down from the patio. The Chemeketa wine studies center has three programs - managing vineyards, making wine, and hospitality. All three come together beautifully with views of next year's crop, bottles full of previous year's crops, and food prepared and served with aplomb. Check their web site for hours, and for special events. In the past, we've attended alumni events where we got to meet with winemakers who have moved their skills to local businesses.

I didn't think I'd say this, but here I am -- a brisket-fueled, bourbon-sippin', proud son of Texas -- absolutely swooning over wine. Not just any wine. We're talkin' about the handcrafted, small-lot, soul-swirlin' nectar served up at St. Innocent Winery -- a place so peaceful and picturesque, it made me question why I don't live in a vineyard-covered valley full-time. My wife and I rolled up to this Willamette Valley wonderland expecting a decent lunch and some light sipping. What we got was a full-blown sensory revival under a cherry-red canopy, surrounded by forested hills that looked like they were painted by God himself after three glasses of Pinot. We opted for the St. Innocent Story Flight -- five sips of vineyard-designated poetry. My wife, being the classy half of our duo, paired hers with the Sip & Savor Experience, which was essentially an edible sonnet: summer vegetable soup so smooth it could run for office, a goat cheese tart so tangy it made my eyebrows dance, a Thai-style spare rib that nearly caused me to curse in delight, and a chocolate mousse topped with pistachio and freeze-dried strawberry that straight-up healed childhood wounds. Me? I stayed true to my roots and ordered the BBQ sandwich. Because even in Pinot country, a Texan's gotta do what a Texan's gotta do. And y'all -- that sandwich slapped harder than a summer sunburn. Juicy, smoky, piled high, with a crunch of pickled slaw and a side of ridged chips that made me weep a little. Paired with that 2019 Momtazi Pinot Noir? I felt like I was sittin' in the arms of a wine-soaked angel. Our server was a gem -- part sommelier, part tour guide, part miracle worker. She suggested we tack on the 2020 Shea Vineyard Pinot and the 2023 'Not So Innocent' Grauburgunder (a rosé of Pinot Gris). Both were showstoppers. We left with a bottle of the Grauburgunder like it was a souvenir from heaven. And just when I thought the experience had peaked -- bam! A quick tour of the facility gave us a peek behind the curtain: barrels like art installations, a tasting room polished to a shine, and a staff that clearly loves what they do. St. Innocent Winery isn't just a tasting stop -- it's a full-body, full-soul, full-Texan-approved revelation. TL;DR: Come for the wine. Stay for the views. Leave with a bottle, a smile, and a belly full of joy (and probably BBQ). Five stars and a raised glass from this grateful Texan.

Very interesting place but some of the exhibits need more information. We had several questions…read morebrought up by the displays- some we could lookup online but others - like the piece of tree in the visitors center that poses the question how old is it based on the rings was left unanswered We learned it's non profit so I'm sure funding and volunteers might be hard to come by If the green light is lit when you are in the main building definitely check out the floor that has people weaving - it was neat to see it in action Would also be nice if all volunteers were trained equally - a tour hide we encountered was lacking answers to our questions but other volunteers passing us heard us and stopped and took time with us which was super nice I hope they can improve and expand because it was so historical and interesting

Staff kept to themselves and gave us space to wander the property. We walked, but Deepwood is set on a busy street corner so be prepared for traffic as you make your way to the parking area and the noise as you wander the gardens.

We had an event near Salem so we thought we'd stop by. It's so quaint, gorgeous and proved to be lovely get away for the afternoon. It's not overly large as you can most likely walk and enjoy the trails, gardens and sights in about 30 minutes. There is a house tour but only on limited days/times and the day we visited was not one of those days. Beautiful flowers, tucked away benches and meandering trails all made for a wonderful walk. I highly recommend and it's free to walk around!

When our…read moreoriginal plans fell through, I called Events Unlimited's Portland office and inquired about their availability. The phone call was quick and informative -- and we were able to arrange to rent the cabinet for the event, which was only two weeks away. The pricing was very reasonable, considering it included delivery and set up. Delivery was very prompt (they delivered on the early end of the window they quoted us) and they handled set up and pick up of the arcade machine without needing to interface with us at the event at all. I also found them to be very responsive to both our emails and calls. One small drawback of working with Events Unlimited is that they were not able to confirm final delivery time until the Friday before the wedding (the day before) -- because they had to finalize their delivery schedule. However, they did call us that day as promised and we were able to work with them to arrange a delivery timeline that worked for all of us.
