After seeing such mixed reviews, I was hesitant especially because I'm a beginner woodworker. I didn't want to be dismissed because most woodworkers are males. But my mentor (John DeLaRosa) really recommended this shop because of their options in hard wood AND HE WAS RIGHT!! REEL is totally like a candy shop for woodworkers of any level! They had the Purple Heart that I've been excited about. AND SO MANY MORE OPTIONS!! I mean, while I was waiting for them to cut the wood I wanted, I started looking around the discount pile and found two pretty pieces I can either cut up and make or just sand down and oil. These pieces could be cutting boards or display boards. The diversity and opportunities available to me from these two wood pieces was so freeing! Perhaps it was my first time so I didn't understand the signage but there were helpful people around to really guide me to the right location for the wood I wanted to find. also, they got the Good Stuff oil. I tried it for the first time off their recommendation and I have not regretted it yet. I'm excited to go back, but more wood, and try some more projects! I purchased lumber for the first time from this place very recently. I got advice from a few other woodworkers and I took a chance. Great selection. The prices were very fair considering the market at this time. It smells amazing in there. The workers are helpful if you have questions. If not, they leave you alone and let you do your thing. Very bad customer service. Three young guys working at the counter only spoke when spoken to and forced me to buy the type of lumber they wanted me to buy not what I was interested in. I'm starting woodworking lessons and this is definitely the last time I shop here. Perhaps they're good for people who know what they want and don't need to talk to anyone except the check out but for anything else this is not your place. Also it looks like the owner only responds to positive reviews so I don't expect anything to change. Notice the customer service problem has been around awhile and nothing from the owner. I was recently planning a multi stop shopping trip on Google maps and Reel Lumber was one of the stops on my list. Being an avid woodworker and having been shopping at the Reel Lumber Riverside store for 20+ years I realized that I have never given then an online review. Like I mentioned I am an avid wood worker ,I've done 4 kitchen remodels and a couple of garage remodels over the years building all the cabinets including hardware (drawer slides and hinges) from Reels's reasonably priced quality products . The big box stores are pale in comparison to Reels product lines. You can actually buy straight flat lumber at Reel, something that is near impossible at the big box stores! Their hardware is equally as good with quality hinges and drawer slides at much better prices than the other guys. Their rough lumber selection is amazing , from alder to hickory to zebra wood and almost every thing in between! They usually carry most in various thicknesses and if you don't see it just ask . I think moldings are really their claim to fame as they carry an amazing selection of profiles in all the popular woods. I like to make furniture and recently made a complete bedroom set for my mountain home in Lake Arrowhead out of a knotty alder I found at Reel. Tom the manager at Reel Riverside is my go to guy on projects as I would compare him to Norm Abrams of New Yankee workshop. If I'm stuck on how to do something he always seems to have ideas he's willing to share. I would call Reel a gourmet lumber yard as I would call Rockler a gourmet hardware store and both are on my list when I do projects. read more

This is the place to go for exotic woods and hardwoods. Rockler is for wimps and ninnies. If you need an 1/8" piece of Coco Bolo or Purpleheart, then Rockler may suffice, but if you need a 20' BEAM of wonderful wood, then head to Reel Lumber. It is basically a dark and dingy warehouse full of very beautiful and very expensive wood. And you can buy as much as you like. I guarantee that you will find a kind of wood that you have never heard of in this place. Try it. They also have huge rolls of exotic veneers, so if you are wanting to face all of your cabinets in Zebrawood, head their way. The staff is a bit standoffish at first, but they warm up and get talking after a bit. Try talking about what their most expensive wood is and they should loosen up (I think it was Tulip Wood?) although they still won't be too helpful. These guys sell a lot of wholesale, so they are not huge on customer service, especially to the customer coming in wanting 2 board/feet of something rather than their usual 2000 board/feet. There are no prices on the boards on the floor, so you basically find a piece you like, take it up front (I know, it is a pain to take up a 20' beam of Walnut Wood) and they will give you a price and cut it down for you if want a piece smaller than 20'. They price the wood by the board/foot. You'll have to ask them how much of the particular piece you are holding that will amount to. They have some limited finishing products, but may have what you are looking for. They also have exotic and hardwood trim if you need some Cherry crown molding. There is parking BEHIND the building, so don't be afraid if you just see a large warehouse with only a busy road to park on. Go down the alley to the south of the building and park in their parking spots. Fun place if you enjoy woodworking. Boring place if you do not. I do. read more

Love the lumber here. Hate the customer service. As a homeowner, I have had to go here to pick up stuff for various contractors working on my house. Every time- without exception- the staff is condescending and rude. They must believe only contractors go there. Be forewarned- the products are great. The staff- terrible. Super rude sales person by the name Tom!! I don't recommend this company. I went to this company back November for some baseboard for a kitchen a very nice young man told me that he can get me the product and to come back when I was ready to order it. I went there today and this man name Tom was so very rude from the time I step into the business. He wanted to argue with me telling me that I didn't talk to anyone there about this product when I was just there in November. I was referred to this company by a sales person at Home Depot who stated this company was the place to go for hard to find products. I do scroll saw work and intarsia for a hobby and this place has a massive selection of the types of wood i use every day. They also will cut my ply wood for me for a buck and that's pretty sweet. Their service is total sh!t though. Their younger employees don't have a clue about how to be friendly or inquisitive to really understand their customers and I would suspect this hurts their business. Go for the wood and stay for the service would be a good slogan but it just isn't true. Go for the wood and then find any good pieces yourself, carry it to the counter yourself, haul it out to the car yourself, etc etc etc. Get to work on this Reel lumber! read more

They had what I needed, a Red Oak Handrail with plenty of select on lengths. They were appreciative of my stopping buy too. Very clean environment for a lumber yard!! Had to make a couple u turns to finally figure out how to park in the back. read more

Reel Lumber is not only a place for contractors. There are times when the employees do get busy and they do so because the lumber are all great quality and cheaper than the other local lumber yards. I teach woodworking in Corona at The Corona Heritage Park and I send all my students there for their solid hardwoods and plywood goods. Tom, the manager at Reel, have always made the shopping experience for all new woodworking students a good one for years. If your experience is less than what you hoped for then speak up while you are there. By the way, Larry E's statement...everybody do usually carry out their own lumber. The employees does help customers with lumber and large sheets of plywood. Just mention it at the desk when you are paying for it and they will help. read more
