I went to Fontana during summertime. Is it a call of the sun? Am I lacking vitamin D? Perhaps I was wondering if I wanted to experience cremation. Alas, no. I went to this bbq island place, bled sweat and actual blood. Then I asked them if they knew any pavers shop. They told me about Thompson so off I went. This place is like garden porn: you're just never gonna finish and each section just gets sicker and sicker. I wish I took design class cuz I really really want to learn how to utilize all they have to offer, but I'm gravitating towards white decorative stones, teal and brown vases that sparkle subtly in the sun and concrete benches that burned my ass as soon as I sat down. They also have plants and garden statues and fountains. I didn't think I liked fountains but I saw one that looked like a bridge made of balancing rocks and I kinda never wanted anything more. Until I saw a complain oval bench that invited me to sit in the shade. And yeah it's like Disneyland but for pavers, and benches. read more

I wish they hired someone to pick up the phone. It rings and rings and no one picks up. The few times they picked up, I asked for Sales Rep, then was transferred to another line that rang and rang. Visited several times over the years for all the things we can't find at Home Depot or Lowe's. Perfect place for the items needed to redo our backyard. You can't find 3' x 3' cement pavers anywhere. We found them here and used them in the backyard when we removed the grass. They look amazing. Would have been five stars, but the wait was extremely long to get serviced on the last two visits. That's when the trouble started--there's so much! The yard was full of all types, like 5' pieces you could cut as you please and pallets of more manageable sizes. All kinds of plants, shrubbery, trees, decorative rock, gravel, sand, statues, welded metal stagecoaches, cows, horses and cowboys on several acres of land. You can get lost in this place. There are several offices on the property. There were two ladies way in the back that were helpful. Other than that, you're pretty much on your own. The plump dude riding around in the golf cart wasn't that helpful. Said that he didn't have any rock we were looking for. Yet after 20 minutes of looking around, we found several bays of rock and gravel. Nothing to our liking. Watch out for the gravel trucks driving around in there. They don't seem to see small people. You might end up under their wheels. Overall a nice place to visit for some thoughts and ideas for your yards. A bit pricey and most of the people working here are MIA. Came out to TBM for a new cushion for my swing & check out the garden area for new plants! My husband & I had a great time looking for about an hour and a half just taking in the beauty of their landscapes and expanded areas; as we have been here a few times before to price out stone & rock for a project. I took a ton of pics so you could get an idea of the diff types of plant, trees, and garden treasures to chose from. I was impressed with the water features were expanded with Koi and turtles on the north end of the property. We ended up purchasing a few partial sun plants that were unique & different ( see last pic) and great prices on mint & spearmint plants (great for the garden to keep away spiders) they hate the smell. I found a great 3 tier hanging pots for $3.99 which was a steal bc I searched on line and it was priced for $19.99 somewhere else - definitely going back to get more for! This visit I noticed that the pricing on the plants seem to be priced fairly well and not expensive as previous visits & it was nice to see so many gardeners out shopping too! I also splurged alittle on a solar light with hanging butterflies and flowers that is approx 3.5 feet tall and looks great in our front garden ($50.00) Will definitely be back more often to shop here as it's the best & largest garden center in our community (besides the commercial businesses) & prices are much more affordable now. ** minus one star as I didnt find an cushions but still had an extraordinary time walking around and see everything. ** if you are looking for some fruits trees - the place is my chose to buy from with many varieties and good prices too! read more

I paid my contractor, Edward Salazar Sr., to buy materials and have them delivered to my job site. Two delivery days set and failed. Told by the general manager, Dustin Chavez, that materials were not paid for. Told by contractor a refund was given because of "miscommunication". The manager Dustin Chavez said he'd look into it and never called back. They are nothing but liars. They take your money and don't deliver. Very crooked and dishonest. I'm contacting the BBB to file a complaint. STEER CLEAR OF THIS PLACE and steer clear of that contractor. Both are no good. read more

If you know what you are looking for and quantity exactly then this is the place. For a DYI'er or just looking for ideas good luck. They hardly have prices on rocks, stones or building supplies which is awful. Every store employee we ask gives us different information or, "sorry not my dept". I went to look for some flat stones for my pond that I'm working on. I found the sone I was looking for but it didn't have any prices. Someone on a forklift told me one price and that its sold by the lbs. So I picked a few pieces of stone and was given a slip with an estimate of $30. I went to go pay and was told it was $90 for 4 pieces of stone. I told them what I was told by the forklift employee and they tell me, "well he is wrong, I determine the price not them" then he has the nerve to tell me, "well you want them or are they too expensive for you?". At that point I just paid for a few plants I had and left. My recommendation to management is they need to show prices on the product and remind employees that without customer service they will have no customers which means no job. I ended up buying the stones at home depot later that day. They do however have a clean outside showroom with good ideas for home projects. The plants do have prices on them just wish the other items did. Come on Thompson's you guys can definitely up your game. read more

They have a really great selection, but their customer service is extremely poor. Their return policy is unreasonable, especially for unused items when I only requested an exchange. The item I purchased I cannot use and is essentially worthless to me now. It's a shame that they would not have exchanged it, as I have no idea what to do with the item now. This is the worst experience I have ever had doing business with someone. We placed an order for some Hebron brick back in February. Thompson Building Materials located in Fontana finally got around to placing the order for the brick at the end of May. I know the brick was ready to be picked up at Hebron because I called and confirmed this myself. Thompson told me the truck was on its way. Only to find out when it got here that Thompson had, with no explanation as to why, not put our order on the truck. So here we are in June, back to square one. read more

I just wanted to alert the public about an experience I had. I have done business with Thompson's for many years. Have bought rock, plants, fountains, yard art and many other things. It was always one of my favorite places. Then last summer I bought another fountain from them. I spent around $800 and I paid for their employee to deliver and install the fountain. I have to admit that my receipt said that there was NO WARRANTY. Since I had bought a really nice quality fountain from them previously (which is still in great shape after about 15 years), I was not concerned, especially since I had them install it. Since I live alone and there are no others on my back patio who could damage the fountain, I was very surprised and unhappy to find that my fountain started leaking - tiny hairline cracks on two sides. I had not even had the fountain for a full year yet. I know it said NO WARRANTY - but what I think bothers me the most (except for being out $800+ on something that didn't last a year), I wrote them a very nice letter detailing my problem (including pictures) - I guess hoping at the very least to get an offer to replace the fountain at their cost or at a discount. They did not even bother to respond to me. I gave them my address, phone number and email. Nothing. I waited a couple of months and resent a copy of my letter saying that I was surprised that they had not even replied to me (again a very nice note) and, once again, they have completely ignored me. Make of this what you will, of course. I won't be back but I guess they really don't care. read more
